I’ll concede Obama had very close to the super majority. He was passing national health care.

Biden did his work without anything close super majority . How did he manage it? What witchcraft!

Trump will fix ObamaCare with something very beautiful and strong in 2 weeks.

As soon as he figures out how to do the budget.

And Obama wrangled them all. Navigated the death of Ted Kennedy as well and losing that seat.

Brain dead Joe got stuff passed through with 50 in the Senate.

Super genius Donald can’t seem to figure out how to do it. Biden just finished cancer treatment, maybe a call to him would help. He could give some pointers.

FWIW- there have been 15 government shutdowns in history (including this one):

  • 8 were under Reagan for a combined 14 days. In 6 of them the Republicans controlled the Senate and Democrats controlled the House. In the last two Democrats controlled both the House and Senate.
  • 1 was under Bush Sr. It ran for 3 days and Democrats controlled the House and Senate.
  • 2 were under Clinton (and occurred a month apart) for a combined 26 days. The Republicans controlled both the House and Senate.
  • 1 was under Obama for 16 days. Democrats controlled the Senate and Republicans controlled the House.
  • 2 happened under Trump's first term. They lasted for a total of 37 days. Republicans controlled the House and Senate for the first one. They controlled the House and Senate for most of the second one until Democrats won the House. The latter was over Trump trying to get 5.7 billion dollars to pay for the wall.
  • This one has currently gone 28 days with the House and Senate both controlled by the Senate.

So 15 times the government has shut down:

  • 12 times it was a Republican president.
  • 12 times the Republicans controlled the House
  • 8 times the Republicans controlled the Senate

Looking at the White House/Senate/House triangle, of the 15 government shutdowns the Republicans have had the "power" 13 times.

The total days under a Republican President the government was shut down is: 82 days- an average of just under 7 days.

The total days under a Democrat President the government was shut down is: 53 days- an average of just under 18 days.

It's almost as if neither party can claim the high ground on this stuff in one way or another.

Here is a FOX News look at the 5 longest government shutdowns:

At this point I tend to think the only thing that will solve this is the Republicans going nuclear and blowing up the filibuster which will open a huge Pandora's Box that no person should want opened.

Hopefully they listen to what Rand Paul of all people said the other day and build a coalition of a fed Republicans and a few Democrats and work out something that can be used.
