I’ll concede Obama had very close to the super majority. He was passing national health care.

Biden did his work without anything close super majority . How did he manage it? What witchcraft!

Trump will fix ObamaCare with something very beautiful and strong in 2 weeks.

As soon as he figures out how to do the budget.

And Obama wrangled them all. Navigated the death of Ted Kennedy as well and losing that seat.

Brain dead Joe got stuff passed through with 50 in the Senate.

Super genius Donald can’t seem to figure out how to do it. Biden just finished cancer treatment, maybe a call to him would help. He could give some pointers.

FWIW- there have been 15 government shutdowns in history (including this one):

  • 8 were under Reagan for a combined 14 days. In 6 of them the Republicans controlled the Senate and Democrats controlled the House. In the last two Democrats controlled both the House and Senate.
  • 1 was under Bush Sr. It ran for 3 days and Democrats controlled the House and Senate.
  • 2 were under Clinton (and occurred a month apart) for a combined 26 days. The Republicans controlled both the House and Senate.
  • 1 was under Obama for 16 days. Democrats controlled the Senate and Republicans controlled the House.
  • 2 happened under Trump's first term. They lasted for a total of 37 days. Republicans controlled the House and Senate for the first one. They controlled the House and Senate for most of the second one until Democrats won the House. The latter was over Trump trying to get 5.7 billion dollars to pay for the wall.
  • This one has currently gone 28 days with the House and Senate both controlled by the Senate.

So 15 times the government has shut down:

  • 12 times it was a Republican president.
  • 12 times the Republicans controlled the House
  • 8 times the Republicans controlled the Senate

Looking at the White House/Senate/House triangle, of the 15 government shutdowns the Republicans have had the "power" 13 times.

The total days under a Republican President the government was shut down is: 82 days- an average of just under 7 days.

The total days under a Democrat President the government was shut down is: 53 days- an average of just under 18 days.

It's almost as if neither party can claim the high ground on this stuff in one way or another.

Here is a FOX News look at the 5 longest government shutdowns:

https://archive.ph/ZbSeo

At this point I tend to think the only thing that will solve this is the Republicans going nuclear and blowing up the filibuster which will open a huge Pandora's Box that no person should want opened.

Hopefully they listen to what Rand Paul of all people said the other day and build a coalition of a fed Republicans and a few Democrats and work out something that can be used.

I'm good

retired military personnel receive monthly pay, which is funded through a separate source and is not affected by a government shutdown. Active-duty members who serve 20 years are eligible for a pension, while Reserve and National Guard members typically become eligible around age 60. The payment amount is based on years of service, rank, and basic pay, with variations depending on the retirement plan.

I don't know if anyone knows how that feels. Has it ever happened before? Maybe with Biden, but I can't think of anything since they were on the same page working hand in glove for the most part...

Navy Federal Union, where I bank (I was Army not Navy, but I bank with their credit union) is offering 0% loans to affected member. Hopefully other banks/credit unions follow suit for affected people.

I'm not gonna watch an 8 minute video, but it's clear that every poll has the public blaming trump and republicans more than Schumer.

Here is the latest...

No, it's not clear.  You can simply watch the first 2 minutes of the video I just posted to be proven wrong, AGAIN.  You don't have to watch 8 minutes.  It covers a lot of ground, but the first two minutes prove you wrong.  I mean, now you're saying CNN is lieing.  Come on man.  They're on YOUR SIDE.

I actually did watch the first :47 and stopped there because the guy was comparing the results of 2 different polls on GOP favorability.  The first is a AP Norc poll from Sept for "GOP Overall" and it's at +2.  The second poll is a quinnipiac for "GOP in Congress", which is +5.  And the conclusion is that the shutdown helped the GOP?  They're not even asking the same question, nevermind different people, different polls, different methodology.  Maybe if you had the same question, same poll, different times, it might tell you something, but that's just nonsense.

So after that I stopped watching, but I'll go ahead and watch the next 1:13 to see what other rubbish I missed.

First there is some text and images explaining to you what we just watched, incorrectly.  I explained it correctly above.

Then it's the same guy is comparing a 2017 "generic ballot" question to a 2025 one showing a 14 point drop.  OK, nothing to do with shutdown.  He also mentioned that it was Dems +3 both before and after shutdown, so no change.

So nothing there "proves me wrong".  Very misleading video that only takes someone with a brain to analyze.

The real answer, when asked directly who is to blame, more people blame Trump and Republicans.

I have no idea WTF you're talking about.  What I DO know is that this isn't "some guy", he's CNN's data analytics guru. He's highly respected and his analysis of this has been reported all over.  That's the only way I'd know about it since I don't watch MSDNCNN or it's affiliates.  So you downplaying his analysis tells me all I need to know.  When your OWN SIDE says something that supports the other side it should matter.  But since you're just a DNC talking point repeating shill I can understand why you'd try to downplay this as just "some guy."

That's a whole bunch of words to say "I'm only repeating what's in the video".  See you have no idea what I'm talking about because you can't use your brain.

I'm asking you to think for yourself.  Can you do that?

When we're discussing the topic of "Who does America blame more for the shutdown".

I present evidence of 3 separate polls, all of which ask that exact question, and all 3 come to the same conclusion., Trump and Republicans.  Seems pretty straight forward, no?

You present as evidence a question of "GOP favorability" from one poll, and "GOP in congress favorability" from a different poll, show how it increased by +3 during the shutdown without knowing anything about who answered those questions.

Now given those two pieces of data, what is YOUR conclusion as to who does America blame more for the shutdown?
