How will the SNAP or EBT November Crisis affect YOU?

Recommended Posts

Everyone blaming Democrats here, even though Trump blames presidents for shutdowns (except himself, of course), is free to provide evidence that what Republicans want will be a brutal blow to our health-care industry.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, and I may be, but the House has passed several CR's that keeps the government "working" in the short term but the Senate Dems keep voting against it.

Why not keep the basics funded while working on peripheral things?

You tell me. I'm trying to educate myself on all the inside baseball on this thing.

I got this:

Quote

Democrats have opposed recent continuing resolutions (CRs) primarily because they lack key Democratic policy priorities, such as the extension of Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, and to force negotiations on a comprehensive, bipartisan funding bill.

That reads, to me, like the Dems taking their ball and going home. They want everything they want and they want it now.

This is a, what? Six week CR? They can compromise now, to make sure some things are funded, then work for a month and a half to negotiate a more equitable compromise on the next one.

For the record, I've always felt this way about these buIIshit CR disputes. Its political theater to rouse the rabble.

It's six focking weeks. Get it done and work towards getting more of what you want on the next one.

We shall see, but I question the point of kicking the can down the road and expecting different results, which would be insanity's definition. We need to take care of the less fortunate, and that's a hill upon which I am most willing to die.

I'm with you on the less fortunate. I'm not willing to fund the less motivated.

One group deserves a hand up. The other deserves a kick in the ass.

I totally agree on this.

This isn't an issue of- hey it's the Dems or it's the GOP.

This is an issue of- two sides need to sit down and figure out a way to bridge the gap and get something done. The GOP said for a year now "This is a mandate to lead given to us." And we see how tenuous that is. The Democrats have one minor piece of leverage and they are using it and it will hurt people.

Meanwhile- Rand Paul offers a bipartisan committee idea to work something out and it's met by crickets. Josh Hawley has an idea to pass a small thing that will keep funding SNAP. Schumer says present it for a vote and the Dems will vote for it. That is met by crickets from John Thune.

On top of it we have Johnson, Thune, Schumer, Jefferies, etc all out there on social media pointing fingers at one another in echo chamber appealing bullshit. And the President's out there telling people about how he controls the Speaker and his big idea is blow up the filibuster which will just mean more of a breakdown of the checks and balances in the system.

Stop thinking any of these people are on your side. They aren't. Across the board they care about themselves and staying in power. Every year it's the same thing- we get new people voted in, a bunch of idiots sit on the Internet and try to claim "My side is better than your side because...." It is what it has always been- meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

The Dems are in a no-win situation here. While I think shutdowns are utter bullshit and speak to a failure of our gov't as a whole, this shutdown is ultimately benefiting Trump, even if the public overwhelmingly blames him.

The bolded is frightening. I've never felt nuking the filibuster was a good idea, but Trump is out there trying to get it done. At what point will people realize that everything he's doing is aligned with keeping himself and the GOP in power indefinitely?

LOL, yeah, let's pretend you're right.  🤡

I posted a video of Trump in 2011 saying the president gets the blame for a shutdown. So the shutdown is Trump's fault. Pretty crystal clear here.

Is this seriously your position?   HA HA HA.   Sometimes I get disgusted at our government...and wonder why some of these people get elected.  But then I see posts like this, breaking things down to the silliest things, and realize maybe it's good we aren't a true democracy.

So you're saying he was right and that Obama was to blame for the shutdown and all of the Democrats back then were lying?

This is real simple, honey.

Trump said the president gets the blame for a shutdown.

MAGAs believe everything Trump says.

Therefore, MAGAs must blame Trump for the shutdown.

I think it's great that there are Republicans refusing his demand to eliminate the Senate filibuster.

At least we still have a shred of checks and balances that forces the two parties to negotiate and compromise, which is what America is all about!

You didn't want to answer huh?  Shocker.

Trump was blaming Obama because Obama was a crappy President.  He was just piling on.

Your turn.  Do you want to answer or just continue to pretend the Democrats aren't the problem here?

We should all be grateful that we're fortunate enough to not need assistance.

Even if someone here did they're not going to tell you anyway.

As far as me personally I plan on collecting extra food donations this weekend in anticipation of extra meals next week for my local pantry

We know you wouldn't. :dunno:

It's good the people are you food donations so you can eat.

But maybe try getting a job and buy your own food.

Trump said that when there is a shutdown, the president takes the blame. He didn't specify Obama.

Democrats and Republicans share the blame for the shutdown.

Do you really believe it's 100 percent the Democrats' fault?

A political paradigm that believes in one-party rule with an authoritarian at the helm and laying blame at the feet of everyone but themselves is called a dictatorship.

Trump could use discretionary funds to feed the poor, and a federal judge has ordered him to do it. Instead, he and MAGAs are trying to circumnavigate what little we have left in the form of checks and balances and screw the poor and benefit the rich, which is what happened in Hungary.

Oligarchy. Authoritarian. Dictatorship.

Whatever you want to call it, this is what MAGA wants, so quit crying about one aspect of the political system that has checks and balances and that Democrats are standing up for the less fortunate instead of bending the knee to a wanna-be king and his cultist followers.

Thanks for proving my point.

We need a strong two-party system, where Democrats and Republicans work out deals for the betterment of Americans.

MAGAs just want a one-party system and to shove their agenda down everyone's throats and expect Democrats to just bend over and accept blame for the issue. I want a strong Republican party.

We'll never get anywhere with a mindset such as yours.

Republicans will find out in 2026.
