I don't think evolution from single cell organism to advanced technology civilization is going to make a difference......you are still talking millions of years. The chances a highly advance civilization venturing into interstellar space and encountering another intelligent civilization that exists in the same time line....not even space-faring, are remote. I think there have been, are & will be, many intelligent civilizations out there....I just don't think we will ever cross paths before our time line ends.

You are making a lot of assumptions here. Like I said we have a very limited perspective.

My own personal belief is I don’t think we are dealing with interstellar travel. But that’s just the theory I think is going on

Like you believe they are much closer?

Well then, let's go on chance alone. I think we can agree that intelligent life developing, not just life....is not "common". Life surviving for 10's of millions of years & becoming intelligent enough for advanced space travel even less "common". I would consider life on this earth as "lucky" to have survived all of the catastrophic events that have befallen it up to this point. Barring all that....you still have to have 2 grains of sand from 2 different beaches on different sides of the solar system, wash up next to each other......I'm betting the under. The universe, given it's size, would need to be pretty well populated with civilizations existing at the same time as us for that to happen. Possible? Yes......nothing in the existence of anything could be more epic than 2 alien civilizations meeting......I just think the deck is stacked against it.

Still too many assumptions here. We don't know how or why life grows and becomes sentient on a planet. We don't even know where consciousness comes from. It's hard to make many accurate assumptions about how the universe really works when we are still using hydrocarbons as the majority of our fuel source.

We are not that advanced technologically. It only seems like we are because of how much more advanced than other species on this planet we are.

Maybe a super advanced civilization could find us by using methods other than just happenstance.

No doubt that aliens desire to land on Uranus.

What does the crew of the Starship Enterprise have in common with toilet paper?

They both scour Uranus for Klingons.

I'm with Nomad in thinking it's statistically improbable and borderline impossible for reasons stated.

Regardless, it's interesting to hear scientists say if they ever did find an alien, they wouldn't care much about its eyes, skin, or physical features. What they really want is take a piece, put it under a microscope and see is it's cells - the only known way for life to exist... nucleus, mitochondria, etc.  Is that the only universal model for life or is there something different out there?

I think it's interesting that you are so sure the only way for a super advanced civilization to find us is through a random encounter.

Do you not see how incredibly limited that perspective is? You are narrowing the ways one civ can find another to one single way, and that's final.

We breath through perceived impossibilities constantly. Which should tell us we should always keep a very open mind as to what is possible.

And you are painting a rosey picture of a super advanced civilization that has the ability to bend time & space, exist in the same time line and isn't constrained by the fact that there are 100's of millions of galaxies....maybe trillions. Again, I don't think we are alone in this universe....I just think we will always BE alone.

All I am saying is that I am not going to proclaim what is impossible. If we have had contact with aliens, then it destroys whatever limits you think exist.

I'm hoping for it.....nothing would be more amazing....and i do think they are out there....unfortunately those of use alive today will most likely never see it.

A civilization billions of years ahead of us would consider humans no more valuable or interesting than bacteria. - Stephen Hawking.  He also likened aliens visiting to Columbus arriving in America - didn't go well for natives.

Imagine you were a space traveler and landed on a planet with intelligent life and said "take me to your leader."  You wouldn't expect to get taken to a different leader depending on where you landed because they're fighting over invisible lines. Then they want to convert you to the ET religion.... creator of everything.  Probably think "intelligent, but primitive."
