dogcows 1,247 Posted Saturday at 09:26 PM Interesting perspective on the killing: https://mastodon.social/@Cdespinosa/115751290904170438 Quote US small arms per 100 persons: 120 Portugal small arms per 100 persons: 20 US murder rate: 5.9 per 100,000 Portugal murder rate: 0.8 per 100,000 US mental health care system: for-profit, limited by insurance carriers Portugal mental health care system: Single-payer public Smart kid in Portugal gets scholarship to come to US, lives here 20 years, has mental breakdown, kills a professor and shoots up a university. I don’t think the problem is immigration from Portugal. The problem is here.

I'll end this and let you get back to your Trump bashing Wait what happened to all of @Meglamaniac’s deranged rants? I forget what exactly he was asking for evidence of, I think it was something about him generalizing a group of people based on something one person did? Above is him replying to one poster ( @Ron_Artest ) and saying he is spouting “typical leftist BS.” Seems like a generalization to me. Although I’m sure he’ll say some nonsense like “yeah but the majority of leftists have proven to be full of BS!”

Stop blaming guns, blame violent people. Making excuses for killers is sick!!! There will always be crazy people. It’s the human condition. Making it harder for humans to access semi-automatic weapons keeps everybody safer. Right now any whack-job can go to a gun show, buy guns with no background checks, and murder innocent children. We regulate cigarettes and alcohol more strictly than deadly weapons. Even though the 2nd amendment literally says well-regulated. It’s a choice the GOP has made. Pandering to gun nuts and the wealthy gun makers at the expense of our children.

I'd like to see required firearm training, possibly classes, a cool off period, etc. Saying we should ban guns is flat out stupid and ridiculous. We aren't discussing banning knives everytime that someone is stabbed.

I absolutely agree with you on training, cool-off period, etc. Sadly, whenever people suggest such things, there is a reflexive response and many states make it even easier to get guns. Here’s hoping more Republicans start suggesting reforms like yours…
