The Real timschochet 7,542 Posted 6 hours ago The issue of wealthy people getting ACA benefits is a red herring. How do I know? Because moderate Republicans have spent the last several weeks attempting to come up with a compromise plan that would extend the subsidies but restrict people with too much income from getting them. The leadership killed the amendment because (a) they don’t want to extend the subsidies period and (b) the amount of wealthy people who actually take advantage of ACA is so small as to be almost irrelevant; it’s simply a Republican talking point.

It’s the same old tropes I remember all the way back to the 80s. Any kind of government benefits are labeled as communist, and anybody that uses them is a lazy welfare queen. Except for all the people who get free Medicare or free public schools or drive on free public roads or use the library, etc…. People love getting free stuff; but many hate it when somebody else gets free stuff. It’s nuts that people living a good life get angry when the child of destitute person gets free lunch at school, or in this case - health insurance. 1

This is the guy that openly rooted for the LA fires, pissed off Old Maid enough for her to leave, and posted a swastika on the forum. Actually, he's worse than HT, who may actually care about someone other than himself deep down. Horsemanure is a legit waste of carbon and oxygen. Says I'm on ignore but can't stop talking about me. So weak.

People who retire early, quite a bit early, would be considered wealthy yes? Choices are paying full price ar having a plan to take advantage of the subsidies. I pay $175/mo now compared to Cobra which was $1,400. And I could manage my MAGI easy enough to pay $0, but, I want to convert as much retirement funds as I can to Roth. Could do a lot more if the stupid Republicans would just extend the covid subsidies and get rid of the cliff. You really should try educating yourself instead of regurgitating msnbc.

Meeeery Christmas! Hope so. I've got like 14 years or so before RMDs kick in an it's still impossible to convert it all. Nice problem to have I guess. MAGA House Republicans slammed the door on affordable health care. By a 204–203 vote, the GOP-controlled House blocked a Democratic bill to extend ACA subsidies. Leadership cut the vote short, even as members were still trying to vote.
