    Doug Orth's Rookie Rankings

historically hes had a good YPC average. whether he sticks may depend on a number of factors which include salary. if hes on a team friendly deal maybe they ditch someone else. the link didnt say how much the contract was for, but I'd suggest that his staying power may depend largely on how team friendly that contract actually is.

like I said, earlier....... if hes on the PUP when the pre season starts i'd be concerned, because he will be sitting at a time when he should be establishing a connection with his new WR's but Cousins game does not really depend on mobility. and he looked super sharp before he went down. so as long as he can throw a football, and shuffle in the pocket like he typically does, he should be fine. Rodgers, on the other hand does depend some on his mobility so in theory the injury should hurt him more. That said Rodgers can still throw effectively in the pocket so I dont think it hurts him all that much either. but I would rule out significant rushing yards from Rodgers. Granted thats not as huge a part of his game as it once was anyhow. anyhow, my point is an achilles isnt a death sentence for a QB like it is for a RB. certainly its not a good thing but you need to look at the injury in the context of the skillset. This injury hurts someone like Lamar Jackson far more than it hurts a guy like Cousins because their mobility and threat to run forces teams to do other things on defense that make them more effective as a QB.

when I saw this in the scouting report the first thing I thought was hed be a perfect fit for a west coast offense. I dont know what kind of offense Payton is likely installing but he has a reputation as a good coach. I'm sure he will find a way to maximize the kids strengths.

What’s your rookie WR board looking like?

historically the Pats have not gone after free agents. granted with Bill B gone, its possible that this changes, but my feeling is that the way a team is managed is parltly a reflection of the GM but also partly a reflection of ownership. sometimes ownership says, we cannot afford to spend to the cap and the GM does his job with the constraints placed on him by ownership. I suspect as a result there wont be any trades for big money WR's from New England. They will draft, and develop from within. That said, there is justification for an exception. with a rookie QB you do wanna give him someone to throw to. But I am not sure this is the direction they go in the end.

not that crazy. he did it when he moved from Washington to Minny. Then when Minny got a new OC he performed in the new offense too. I'm not so worried about cousins so long as he doesnt miss a bunch of time in training camp due to being on the PUP list. for me that's the key with Cousins. if he starts on the PUP, it makes it a whole lot harder to pick up the nuances of the offense when you cant execute it on the field in practice.

I think Cousins will be playing behind a better line. But its tough to beat the WR he had in Minny. in the end I think it will be a wash. That said, I think it will be a different looking offense than what he ran in Minny so there may be some adjustment time. This is why it would be concerning to me if he started the year on the PUP. he needs to learn and master the offense and establish those connections with his new receivers.

agreed. Who else is there in the chargers organization? if the kid can play, he could be a day 1 starter (or at least in a time share to start the season). I dont see a lot of depth for the chargers at RB. So even if he doesnt start on day 1 there is lots of room to move up. I like the situation.

    Doug Orth's Rookie Rankings

agreed. Conor averaged nearly 5 yards per carry. Guys with that kind of numbers rarely get shown the bench due to performance. it will take an injury that keeps him off the field that will open the door for this kid. But thats a lot of uncertainty. Yes Conor misses a couple games here and there but usually not much more than that. so the kid will get a cup of coffee but wont likely take over the starting role for at least a year.

he doesnt have a straight path to the starting job. I think the ranking is fine. if he had an easier path to a starting Job I'd rate him higher. I wouldnt be surprised if thats the rationale taken with this ranking. Nothing personal. its the situation more than the skillset.

hard to say. Cousins has been remarkably durable since he became a starter. but yes, he got hurt mid season so depending on how the rehab went it could be a concern all we can do is read those team reports. Usually the first sign of a problem is that he starts training camp on the PUP list. if that happens, I'd say its a big red flag in the sense of injury, but also in the sense that he doesnt get on the field to establish that connection with his WR and his teammates and there is usually a price to be paid production wise if you cant make that connection early in the year. especially when playing for a new team.

Yeah I dont know if hes returning anytime soon. I got the feeling his health really needs to be his priority. I have not heard anything since, but I also wasnt expecting anything

Axe Elf - A Retrospective - FFToday Board - FFToday Forums this should shed some light on his situation. coles notes version: it looks like hes been having some health problems. for more details you can read his post. it is long, but likely gives most of the info you would want

tough to say really. There are arguments for and against each. Rodgers got injured earlier, so its been longer since hes played, but hes also had more recovery time. Rodgers game also depends a lot more on his mobility, so the injury will likely affect him more as the scrambling he used to do may not be as good. This is one of those situations where we wont likely know until both players are throwing footballs. but I'd fit both players into the same bucket risk wise. maybe a bit more risk with Rodgers as he is a couple years older.

    Dynasty Rookie RBs

based on this scouting report it almost looks like an Emmitt smith who can catch passes. looks like you posted all his positives from the scouting report, what do the negatives look like? if there wasnt a significant negative this scouting report would suggest he should be one of the first RB off the board but clearly that wasnt the case so there must be a negative in his game we are missing. Normally you see a RB that short and you gotta think small guy with durability problems but hes actually pretty big. is it just his timed speed scouts dont like?

well, in my keeper league I'm gonna have to make a choice in whether to keep him or not. its a 2 QB league so parting with a QB who is likely to be productive is not to be taken lightly. The injury itself doesnt concern me all that much. hes never been a mobile QB so as long as it does not affect his throwing motion and hes still able to move in the pocket the way he has in the past I dont see the injury affecting his production a ton. however I do think if I do keep him, this is likely the last year I'm keeping him. I have younger guys I could keep at this point so its not a lock that I keep him
