The Bridge - on FX

Recommended Posts

Anyone watch the premiere. I saw it last night and I guess from the previews I saw I thought it was going to be like a supernatural series but it's actually better than I thought and has a really good premise. So far it looks interesting. Not on the level as a Justified or anything but it does look promising at least so far.

<crickets> :(

seriously if you haven't seen it there are worse ways to kill 90 minutes - don't know if it's a must watch but a decent On Demand see if nothing else is on.

Liked it, hoped to like it more than I did. I don't care much for the lead actress. I know she's supposed to be 'quirky', or maybe even somewhat autistic or something, but the whole thing just didn't ring true. The Mexican dude is pretty good though.

Maybe I missed it -- did they ever show what was behind that door?

Agree somewhat on the lead actress but I will give it time before I judge as it is an original concept to have a Asperger lead. Also agree the messican actor is good as well. IMO it just has a really good story line to explore and should be a really greta show unless the writers butcher it. Would be a shame to fock this up.

I DVRd it, but haven't watched yet. This weekend I am sure.

Never had the impression there was anything supernatural though. I just assumed it was a hunt for a killer with the Mexican side cop and the American chick working jointly. And I have hopes for a wider story involving that whole border town scene with cartels, mule, coyotes, gangs on the other side, violence crossing over, etc.

I believe the 2 main writers come from Homeland. While that wasn't my favorite show, at least they have some serious drama pedigree.

Has many opportunities to be greta. Would love it if they tried to keep it as realistic as possible - or at least on the order of Breaking Bad

No, I think they left that as a cliffhanger. On a side note, Annabeth Gish is keeping it together pretty good. Hadn't seen her in a while.

I do see tons of potential and already have it set on the DVR, I just hope the lead actress grows on me. Having Buffalo Bill as the older cop is a plus.

I watched it, and given Fx's pedigree with dramas i will give it plenty of rope before i quit watching. I didnt like the lead character that much myself, mostly i think because its a complete ripoff of the character Emily DeChanel plays on Bones. Im not even a big Bones fan, but ive watched enough of it to see the pattern...hot chick main character blurts out some truth or fact and then cant understand why someone else was offended or reacted badly, because you know it the truth. Or a fact. Its just been done, for like 8 years. The writers have to know this. If the Sonya North character is just an endless stream of scenes like the one with the dead judges husband, it will get real boring real quick.

I don't watch Bones -- does the lead there have Aspergers as well on the show? i admit it's annoying but I think there is enough else there to cover it up and the show to still be good. We'll see though.

Since we are all about TV tonight, i will bump this thread.....

So far my fears about the main character have not been realized and this show has been pretty excellent. Im starting to think that the guy with the huge sideburns is not the Beast though. Im guessing some huge surprise bad guy in the season finale.....maybe Ted Levine reprising his role as Buffalo Bill?

Ya ive been on this one....i like it although like another poster said...i dont know how much shelf life this show has. How many seasons can you have chasing one killer and not finding him before fans get bored with no conclusion?

BTW im voting very early that the beast is that sherrif.....the old man.

The mexican cop is very good, Sonya annoys me...like last weeks show...she ate ate Marco's and didnt eat..when asked why..."It didnt taste good". Who the eff says that? And busting him about his wallet AT his house? Nobody does that.

She has Asperger's Syndrome. One of the main symptoms of that is significant difficulties in social interaction. I think theyve done a halfway decent job of developing her unique personality without hitting us over the head with it constantly.

Ahhh.....thats right...i missed that. Ya in that case youre right....they havent beaten that into the ground.

Good characters in it...from the reporter, to Linder to the mexican cop/ Sonya interaction and culture differences.......been pretty entertaining. Be interesting how it developes and creates interest in a show chasing one.....possibly....killer.

Has there been other shows like this chasing one serial killer that we can compare it to for longevity?

The one that springs to mind was Profiler, although they did other cases while the main bad guy was sort of always out there.

I've enjoyed it so far, but it's getting to the point where there is just too much going on for my taste. Sometimes they try to pack some of these shows with so many intrigues and tangents that things just get too hard to track and you stop caring about even the main plotlines. Not saying it's there yet, and hopefully it won't get there, but that's the way it's been trending for me.

I'm with you on this one. The inflections of the voice (of the kidnapper) on the phone, definitely sound like him.

Not sure how I feel about the show yet. It's interesting, and good, so far... but not great.

I dont know....if they had planned on the Beast being the sheriff, i doubt they would have cast the guy who played Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs to be the sherriff.

My short list of potential Beasts:

Slightly effeminate cop with mullett

Horse ranch head Mexican

The thing I like so far is that they focus on portraying Mexico's frame of mind on this, from the sympathetic Mexican cop character, to the Mexican reporter girl, to the very foundational idea that Mexican lives are treated as somehow worth less than American lives. That's pretty cool, and bold.

Also I like the chick cop's character, but I have known a few women like that. Hell I pretty much did a turn as her would-be boyfriend character at one point in my life. Psst, buddy, you're not going to save her and make a compassionate woman out of her, that just ain't the way she's wired.

But the problem is, like many have mentioned, I don't really see where this show can go. It seems destined to fizzle out after a couple seasons, if they're lucky/good enough to even make it that far before it becomes repetitive and absurd. But for now it's worth watching IMO

See... that's exactly why I think he could be. Seems like a waste to hire him for such a small role as the sheriff.

There are no small roles. Only small actors

Ya thats what im thinking.....hes involved in the show....but not too involved.

Fast forward 7 years....they havent caught the killer and it turns out they were all in purgatory.

Was pretty tremendous last night.

The only issue i have with this show....is that its weaved itself so far that nobody could just pick this show up and know WTF is going on without starting from scratch.

Season 2 starts tonight...

heck yeah. Little disappointed they havent been running back episodes like the Blacklist does to keep the story somewhat fresh......feels like its been a year and a half since the show was on. Not sure even where the story left off......hope that doesnt backfire on them.

A little disappointed in the season premier. Enough to where im a little worried about the show making it.

The show has a ton of moving parts.....but some ofthe parts you can just see are unnecessary The hispanic journalist thats a lesbian? Who cares about that storyline?

Just seems like there are a lot of loose end stories running around that need to get tied together.

No no...i like the show...ive been all over it since day 1. Im just a little leery as they didnt show reruns while the show was off (helps a new show stay fresh in folks minds)...and IMO some of the storyline is so vast and disconnected it could drive some folks away. But im still watching.
