Is this a thing?

Recommended Posts

It's a racially charged photograph.

In it, two former Chicago cops, both of them white, pose as if on a hunting trip. They're down on one knee holding rifles. A black man is lying on the floor between them with antlers on his head.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/28/us/chicago-police-antlers-photo/

So does it boil down to this? If they secluded themselves to only white friends, and one of those white friends willingly joined in on the feeble attempt at humor, and wore the antlers....would this be anything?

Ok,,sigh ... Some of you nerds are gonna say that pic is not from that fight ... DOESN'T MATTER ... Tyson, who it was supposed to just be a walk in the park for, coulda won that fight. If he had taken Buster Douglas seriously, he coulda won. There were times in the fight that it looked like Tyson was going to win ... but he lost, becaus he wasn't prepared. He discounted his opponents skill set. Underestimated Douglas' right hook, and it cost him.

And just because there might be a video out there on the interwebs, of a guy that looks a lot like me, even wearing a Giants cap, putting a cucumber in his butt .... that's prolly not me.

Proly,,Tim Fuggar ... Not me. Someone that looks like me, even faked the scar on my face when I am blowing ...I MEAN THE GUY is ... Doing the thing with the cucumber ... But you take one screenshot of Britney Spears, .... Ya know the famous one of her, where she looks like an oldeer man ina wig ...

OK... This joke has become more effort than it's worth. POINT IS ... a split second doesn't often tell the whole story.

No, if all 3 of then were white this photo would not be arguably racist. I'm not sure the cop should lose his job over this, but it was an incredibly dumb thing to do.

I'm guessing maybe it's only a big deal in relation to this tidbit:

It's not a new picture, and the details surrounding it are sketchy. It was taken sometime between 1999 and 2003 and was uncovered during an FBI investigation of the other officer in the photo, Jerome Finnigan.

Finnigan was convicted of shaking down drug dealers with other cops and stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from them, WLS reported. He was also convicted of plotting to kill another officer.

But that doesn't fit your narrative so you left it out.

My understanding is that one of the cops was fired for appearing in this photo, not for his relationship to the other cop under investigation?

There was almost definitely some guilt by association going on there. You might get the benefit of the doubt if you weren't best buddies with a crooked cop who schemed to murder other officers

It was admittedly hard to tell if he was associated but the way the article was written gave the impression he was fired for appearing in that photo and not suspicion of any other guilt. Course, the article was poorly written and in his rush to post another poor white man / victim thread I don't think RLLD cared much about the details. All we need to know is a white guy got fired like that racist black lady he worked with in 1986.

Wasn't aware of it, did not read that paragraph, so the suggestion that I somehow "left it out" has no basis.

The article seems to pointedly focus on the topic that "The message is clear: The officers are the hunters. The man is their prey." And then later also note what you are saying above. Perhaps the author of the article did intend to focus on what you are stating, but it seems as though the focus is on the race of the man, not the correlation between the two officers shaking down drug dealers.

Are you asserting that because oen of the men associated with a corrupt cop that this should then color our perception of him as well?

I used to work as a digital photoretoucher. We used to call it "the secret art". If I do my job well, nobody notices. One time, an old lady I put on the cover of a magazine complained about how much her wrinkles showed. Best compliment I could ever get, I retouched the shiat out of her! Yah know, and keeping her looking like an old lady so it was still real. Even she could not tell, I had retouched a LOT. Editors, who claimed some kinda "journalistic integrity" BS convinced me to tone it down.

If there is one thing I know ... when a 70 year old woman finally gets on the cover of a magazine, she wants to look like she's 21 again.

While this is the correct response, i think we all know that there are elements of our society who can get traction off of this and will exploit it as if it were something, regardless.

And those elements are what is causing most of the real problems in our society.

Totally agree. The angry white male victim club is already exploiting it.

"They wanted to protect the identity of the African American man."

Yeah, these guys were clearly concerned with that guy's human dignity.
