Hype_Train252 4 Posted July 9, 2017 I don't think this is common in other leagues other than dynasty (my league is a standard re-draft). I was given a trade offer by a league mate of mine which involves trading picks. His offer to me was trading my 1st round pick 11th round pick 12th round pick and 13th round pick and for his 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th round picks. The order of the draft is unknown yet. So I could have 1st overall or 12th overall pick in the first. Would you conduct this trade? Why or why not? The upside is having 8 picks between the 4th and 7th round. The downside is losing out on 1st round talent possibly even 1st overall. If I go through with it I'll become the John Schneider of my league (my 2nd year trading out of the 1st round). polecatt 403 Posted July 9, 2017 You will have 8 picks in rounds 4-7, while he will have 3 picks in rounds 1-2 I would much prefer the latter It's a hidden version of the ole trade quantity for quality scheme He gets 3 almost surefire studs while you get stuck with a bunch of mid round talent Look at it this way 3 players from 1-2- Odell Beckham, Mike Evans, DeMarco Murray 8 players from 4-7- Demaryius Thomas, LeGarrette Blount, CJ Anderson, Brandon Marshall, Tevin Coleman, Golden Tate, Frank Gore, Stefon Diggs How perfect must that must go for it to work out to your benefit? Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted July 9, 2017 I think I'd rather have that group of 8 than the group of 3. It's kind of like auction drafting. Give me 3 studs, and then I will fill in my roster with cheap value players.
TBayXXXVII 2,117 Posted July 9, 2017 It's kind of like auction drafting. Give me 3 studs, and then I will fill in my roster with cheap value players. In an auction, that works... but that philosophy probably won't pan out in a redraft.
Smileseers 54 Posted July 9, 2017 I try to get the best player in any trade, especially in keeper/dynasty leagues. How did trading out of the first round work for you last year?
Hype_Train252 4 Posted July 9, 2017 I try to get the best player in any trade, especially in keeper/dynasty leagues. How did trading out of the first round work for you last year? Trading out of the 1st round helped me land Melvin Gordon, Moncrief (got hurt early on), Brees, Spencer Ware, Larry Fitz, Rashad Jennings and Marvin Jones. By contrast the guy I traded with got Antonio Brown and Devonta Freeman.
Hype_Train252 4 Posted July 9, 2017 I appreciate everyone's input. I'm probably not gonna go thru with it this year. But I like the idea of putting my eggs in many different baskets. And increasing depth in exchange for an elite player. Plus I've never had luck with first rounders and I always come out with a gem in the middle rounds. cbfalcon 824 Posted July 10, 2017 Counter....offer your 1, 12 and 13 for his 2, 3, and 4.
Kopy 491 Posted July 10, 2017 You never told us how many teams in the league? How many rounds do you draft? Starting roster requirements and the type of scoring you play with would be helpful also. Just the general should I do the trade? I'd say no. But knowing the rest of the parameters would help with a fair counter offer.
Kopy 491 Posted July 10, 2017 I think the consensus you'll find is no way. But with more info. You should should get really good feedback/analysis on counters we would like, if it were us in this scenario.
ralphster 274 Posted July 10, 2017 I wouldn't make any pick trade before draft order is established. 1.02 is worth far more that 1.11.
Haverchuck 0 Posted August 27, 2017 I would like to see how this has played out for the others. I'm in a new league. It's a redraft league, 12 team standard with a 16 round draft. 1QB, 2RBs, 2WR, 1 flex. The commissioner is allowing trading draft picks but it has to be at least a 1 for 1 trade. Meaning we all have to come out of the draft with the same quantity of picks. Have you done this in your leagues? Are you happy with the outcomes?
