dain11279 930 Posted December 11, 2017 http://www.golf.com/tour-news/2017/12/11/usga-announces-viewer-call-ins-will-no-longer-taken-account-beginning-2018 Attention all armchair golf rules officials who study video replay in search of infractions: your dedication to your craft is impressive. It's just not needed anymore. Beginning Jan. 1, 2018, tournament officials will no longer field or consider your call-ins as part of rules decisions. All video reviews will be handled by one or more tournament officials assigned to the task. "The message we're putting out to fans is, What you've seen, we've seen. Have confidence in us running the event," said Thomas Pagel, USGA senior director of rules and amateur status. "We want you to be a fan. Enjoy watching the world's best players. Let the rules be handled inside the ropes between the players and officials." The change in protocol, announced jointly Monday by the USGA and the R&A, follows the recommendations of a working group led by the governing bodies and consisting of the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, PGA European Tour, Ladies European Tour and the PGA of America. Cruzer 1,993 Posted December 11, 2017 Bout focking time! This entire fiasco has been a cluster fock to the umpteenth degree. If you didn't know any better, you'd swear Goodell was handling it.
Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted December 11, 2017 I am still fuming about how they handled the rules at the end of Happy Gilmour!!!
frank 2,154 Posted December 11, 2017 I bet they still check message boards or something. They don't want the public catching something they missed. This might not change anything except they will just pretend they noticed it themselves.
Cruzer 1,993 Posted December 11, 2017 Maybe I missed it - but I didn't see anything addressing the "time window" of penalty enforcement...... Meaning - are they still going to allow officials to make rulings after the fact, in some cases even the next day (Lexi Thompson)? They need to take it a step further and say, once a card is signed - the round is official.

Fireballer 2,394 Posted December 27, 2017 Im watching the replay of the ANA on Golf Channel. I still for the life of me cant figure out why this call in nonsense was ever a "thing". Even the NFL is smart enough not to nitpick everything they see on replay. And Im still on the fence about an amateur organization making the rules for a professional tour. I havent mulled over all the implications of a "Pro Tour rulebook", but on the surface it appears backwards. I guess there really isnt a "governing body" over other pro sports (correct?) like golf has the USGA.

Fireballer 2,394 Posted December 27, 2017 My statement really wasnt in defense of them, per se, just saying that as bad as they are at least they dont nitpick replay video for penalties that were not called.
