I do think it’s worth emphasizing that if we can believe her, the mom said he was starting to LEAN more to the left. So basically she was likely the one who originated the “he had become more political in recent years” comment. Which probably means he basically didn’t talk politics at all before, but then started to. Definitely doesn’t sound like “far” leftist though.

I’m sorry, if you say “stupid Muslims,” there is no “context” that makes that not considered hatred to me. You can argue that he’s correct in making a hateful statement about Muslims if you’d like, but he still made a hateful statement about Muslims.
