Fantasy Football vs Favorite team

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if there is anybody else out there like me..

I used to be a die hard member of the Raider nation..Lived and died each sunday depending on the outcome.(starting around 1977 or so)

12 years ago I got into FF and my love for the Raiders started diminishing each year since.

Before I wouldnt really watch any other games except Raider games, now on Sundays we have 5 TV's in the main room with all our other FF geeks messing up my house..

I guess the question is, can one be a FOOTBALL fan, without having a favorite team?

I don't know anyone in our league who doesn't have a favorite.

I used to hate the Bungles just cause one of our owners loved them. Now after having C. Johnson and C. Palmer on my team last year, I grew to love them...Totally exciting to watch...

Same with many other teams whose players I drafted...

I can't even call myself a Raiders fan anymore.

Is there any other bandwagoneers out there that feel the same way?

But will you draft S. Moss or Portis earlier than normal just to get to root for your team that much more?

In my league homerism is HUGE, and allways has been...

Come to think of it, I'd probably draft that way too...Just not way out of line.

One of our guys drafted R. Moss in the first round last year and followed it up with Jordon and collins and Janikowski...I'm not kidding, first 4 pics. Needless to say, he finished last..

Nice guy though, he does the same type of thing every year.

I have them both  - so I guess the answer is yes

I also have Cooley, and the Skins D along with Jason Campbell - this is for my Dynasty league.

I had Portis when he wa sin Denver, I traded for Moss when the Skin traded for him... and I drafted Cooley as my last player the year he was drafted....so I guess I do draft my Skins!

My draft strategy has always been to DRAFT Univeristy of Miami players -- I currently have Portis, MaGahee, AJ, Reggie Wayne, Santana Moss, and Shockey with Winslow on IR until this upcoming season. I also have Davenpoop and Frank Gore --- so I stick with that!!!

I was a die hard Packer fan until I got involved with FF about 10 years ago. Now it is my teams first, Packers second. I think FF is only part of the reason I am not a hard core backer anymore. With cry baby me first players who move at will it is hard to get excited about a team. If the players don't care about the team and only care about themselves why should I? I watch alot of football now but many times I don't know the score of the game but know how many points my players have. So if GB has to lose for my team to win, so be it.

For some strange reason I try to stay away from drafting players from my team the Houston Texans.

I drafted AJ last year...I understand your pain...

Phurfur:

Pretty funny how that works out, huh?

My roomate is also a cheesehead, but after 12 years of FF, He also is slowly going to the dark side too.

(although he did draft Favre and Walker last year)

 fix'd

Your a good man Portis !!

Thank you

Diehard Pats fan but never had a Pats player on my fantasy team. I root for money before I root for the Pats but the Pats don't really start playing their season until the playoffs.

routing for a guy to score isn't routing for the other team to win. i just think if they are going to score, it would be nice if he is on my team. when you're talking about hundreds of dollars, you'd be foolish not to...

If I were in free leagues I would agree but I play for money. So for me it's a business.

100% Titan fan all the way but....Here is how fantasy football mixes in.

Two years ago in FF - I drafted S.A. and D.J therefore cheering for Seattle as my 2nd favorite team that year.

Last year - I drafted Delhomme and Steve Smith - therefore cheering for Carolina as my 2nd favorite team.

Do you suppose it has anything to do with the players you draft?

So you would be in the catagory of fantasy football over your favorite team?

A business? <_< .....this is your source of income?

Yes, FF first and favorite team second. It is not my source of income but we do take a great vacation on the winnings every year. There is usually enough money left over to buy some desired toys, iPod, Play Station, etc.

I usually don't have Favorite Team players on my fantasy team because the home town fans grab them way to early.

by the way, you said your favorite team is the packers. i'm sure you were routing for them over your fantasy team in week 15 when they were out of the playoffs for 5 weeks at that point... <_< (unless you are in free leagues...)

actually i was rooting for them....not over my fantasy team.....but to win if one of my fantasy players was about to score i would want the pack to stuff em....

i didnt want to see favre go out on a losing note if it is his last year...

its called being a fan ive, ive liked the pack a lot longer then i have been playing fantasy football....im a huge Packer fan and even tho I enjoy my fantasy season...i havnt put my team the back seat for "fantasy Team"....thats just retarded....people that would rather see there fantasy team win rather then there favorite team win...really dont have a favorite team....so rooting for your fantasy team must not be a problem cuz as i can see there is no one team that love grew up watching....

when the packer lose i am   ...when my fantasy team loses i am   because they all in all are a group of players drafted and happen to right down on a paper and keep stats on...

(im not in any free leagues)

I totally agree. I used to be a die hard Raider fan, but I've been in the same ff league for 15 years and those bragging right mean more.

FF has had little to lighten my support for the team.

But what has is:

1. Life, Wife and Kid. The important stuff (especially later when the kid can take over my FF obsession)

2. Ownership of my favorite Team (specifically Red McCombs)

3. Players attitudes and Egos. Cris Carter (every time he opens his mouth), Culpepper since the boat.

4. Coaches attitudes and Egos'. Denny Green an his anti ego, Brad Childress

5. The SB that wasn't.

I just think you cant straddle the fence....

Your either a favorite team 1st guy or FF 1st guy....

If your a die hard fan FF never comes into play with you rooting for your team and you somehow hoping your FF player scores on your favorite team...thats just not what a die hard fan is....

I just dont understand how a game (ffball) with so much luck involved can change die hard fans into average fans....and how people can be happy with their ffball team winning over their favorite football team...

My Packers come 1st over a game of mostly luck.....im a fan 1st and ffballer 2nd...

Interesting topic, but I think you're discussing two things here.

Being a fan is emotional and personal; being an owner is cold, hard scientific capitalism... As a Packer fan, I want Green Bay to win. But you know what? Green Bay can still win and give up two TDs to Shaun Alexander. So, I'm rooting for the Pack but I know SA is going to score--heck, I don't even need to root for him.

On my office wall, the Packers' pennant hangs just above the Timinators' pennant. If you're lucky, you can draft the 1996 Favre and Packer defense then watch your fan team and your fantasy team both kick some serious azz!

Fantasy has indeed expanded my appreciation for other players and teams. Cincy has an excitement surrounding the team now that Green Bay had in the early '90s. It's fun to watch.

first of all, we had this arguement before this site went down about if FF is luck or skill. and i say it's more skill than luck. at least you have control over that. you have zero control over your favorite team. it's more luck if your favorite team wins than if your fantasy team wins trust me. with that being said, i think you can definitely root for both, why can't you? you root for your team to win, you root for your players to score. what's so hard about that?

A.) say stuff him and enjoy a packer win

or

B.) say ooo alexander score get my fantasy team some points...

Packers win ....theres nothing sweeter in my mind...

I am first and foremost a NY Giants fan, then a FF fan. At one time, I did have Tiki and Eli and Brandon Jacobs on my squad, plus Osi Umenyiora and Gabril Wilson (IDP/Dynasty League), and Tiki is my favorite player, but I traded him away last season. It hurt, but my team was I think better after the trade.

Stuff 'em, I'll get my points somewhere else. I always do.

But if he does score, there's a silver lining in my Packer rain cloud. I like to have my cake and eat it too. Will I be happy because GB won? Or will I be happy because my FF team just won some money? That way I always win.
