Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted April 7, 2006 Via e-mail: ** Don’t the Bengals seem totally preoccupied with quarterbacks lately? They lost Jon Kitna but quickly signed Doug Johnson and Craig Krenzel. Now they’re talking to Joey Harrington and Jamie Martin. Make no mistake, they are worried that Carson Palmer won’t be ready to go in September. His severe knee injury (torn ACL, MCL, dislocated kneecap) is an issue that we’ll hear more and more about in the next few months. Having major reconstructive surgery just 8 months before kickoff is really bad timing. Even Palmer himself is hedging on his return. “The last thing I need to do is push anything too early and push back the date that I can really step on the field 100 percent,” he said last month. Two knowledgeable sources have told us Palmer might open 2006 on the PUP list, which deactivates him for the first 6 games. Hmmmmmmmmmm
t.j 35 Posted April 7, 2006 Or, maybe, they place enough value on the backup quarterback position in general that they feel it's important to find an adequate replacement for Kitna.

Guest stevejohnson Posted April 7, 2006 Doug Johnson, Craig Krenzel, Joey Harrington, Jamie Martin having to play any more then 1 or 2 games means the up and coming Bengals go back to the days of the down and out Bungles. The Bengals are actually a very likeable, hard working team so I hope that Plamer gets back soon.....How long would it take for Chad Johnson to beat up Krenzel in the locker room at half time after they are down 17-0 and Johnson has one catch for 9 yards because they can't get the ball to him? joefry 0 Posted April 7, 2006 Ok...here's the deal. CP tore EVERY ligiment in his knee. I am not an expert, but the doctor who saw him said it was the worst thing he has ever seen. This is not new info, plus add in the fact that it happened in Jan. So what do we think is going to happen? I know there are CP owners (keeper) that want to keep hope alive, but CP is not playing this year. I would be shocked to see that happen. This is not a broken leg or a regular torn acl, it is all three ligaments. He is done for this year. The fact that they are now saying that he will start on the PUP bears that out. murf74 461 Posted April 7, 2006 I don't know if he tore every ligament, but the surgeon did say it was a devastating injury but everything went well. But the surgeon did talk in terms of career threatening. Then I heard that the Bengals organization quickly stepped and said he was taken out of context. Not sure what that whole story was, maybe a Cincy fan can expand why that doctor was shut up and shooed away so quickly after he spoke. Anyway, I think Cincy must have high hopes for Palmer cause they have NO backup plan in place...but then again neither did Chicago last year and see where that gets ya. But wouldn't a team that has watched their franchise QB go down 2 years in a row with a knee injury have a backup plan? Even if you think Palmer is 110%? I mean, Cincy's backups make Charlie Batch look like Tom Brady. OK, did a quick search on this subject of his surgery and what the doc had to say after the surgery. I forgot how bad it was. Here it is http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2290239

I don't think he is coming back this year unless the Bengals are in it at the end of the season. They have options at qb. They can still pull some one out of free agency, my guess is that Collins, Harrington and whoever is left is waiting to see what BF is going to do, b/c if he leaves, GB has a lot of money to throw at someone. Also, they might be planning to draft someone and throw them into the fire(ala Kyle Orton), I think this year's qb class is pretty deep. A guy like Omar Jacobs might be pretty intriquing on that team.
phillybear 366 Posted April 8, 2006 I have a tough decision in a keeper league where I keep 2 of 3 between Carson Palmer, Steve Smith and Chad Johnson. This could make it an easier decision.

Ok, here's the deal. You're out of your focking mind. This has to be one of the most inaccurate posts I've ever seen. - He tore 2 ligaments, not all four. - His doc did NOT say it was the worst he has seen. In fact, if you'd like to see exactly what the doc has said, here's a couple of links for you. http://bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5050 http://bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5017 And from this link...http://bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5019 “I believe and regret that media reports, based on interviews with me, have misinterpreted my view of Carson Palmer’s knee injury. Though the injury was serious, the essential facts remain his ACL and MCL have been repaired. I would consider this a typical MCL-ACL football injury. My comments attributed to me that the knee injury was “devastating and potentially career ending” were meant to describe such injuries in general, not Carson’s particular case. - And from NFL network tonight...Palmer is already throwing with he and CJ having a 30 minute session. Yes, he may miss few games, but to say he's done for the year is uninformed bullsh*t. Or, maybe, they place enough value on the backup quarterback position in general that they feel it's important to find an adequate replacement for Kitna. Exactly. I have no doubt that they are worried about Palmer's injury. But you can be damn sure that if they were really worried, they wouldn't be signing guys like Dexter Jackson while all the available QBs fall by the wayside. murf74 461 Posted April 8, 2006 Even if Palmer was 100% healthy and never got hurt last year. Don't you think you need someone better than what you got backing up Palmer. I would rather have a better backup QB than Dexter Jackson, especially with Palmer having a track record of going down with a knee injury in his only 2 years of starting. I know last years was totally freaky and has nothing to do with his durability, but still.

Walter34 3 Posted April 8, 2006 For what its worth, Chad was on NFL network today saying Palmer was throwing and jogging this week. He's nowhere near ready, but should be by training camp. For those that saw the interview, Chad is hilarious. His antics are meant for pure fun and he seems like a genuine good guy. Its a fine line between his flair and owens, but I like him. One of his quotes - "If me and Deangelo Hall were in a phone booth, he couldnt touch me" He was also talking about how working his celebrations within the new rules was a challenge for him and that he expects new rules next year. Another quote: Rich opens by asking him how he is. Chad responds - "I'm beautiful"

That gimp will be lucky to ever beat the Pats in his lifetime. Maybe he can stay on the sideline and prevent the dingbat WR from knocking out the head coach.
