You know when it came to Strahan ... and the sack record.

Recommended Posts

You talk to Jets fans ... they think Strahan should have it. Local Deli guy ... a Jets fan, when that happened I said, "Sal ... you can tell me straight up ... how do you feel about it, should there be an asterix?" and he said ... "Yeah ... there should be ... assterix ... not on drugs .... asterix ... not an azzhole."

Michael Strahan is a good guy ... deserves all the respect in the world, and WTF would you do if Favre just fell down in front of you .... not make the sack? Blame Fhahvrah if you wanna blame someone ... but Strahan was there ... in the right place, at the right time ... and he made that sack ... IT COUNTS! So STFU about an asterix, ok?

Bonds .... seems obvious ... he aint shiat without the juice. He'll break the record ... we all know he'll break the record ... but ... *Steroids

You know ... Barry Sanders ... as much as he deserved it, with all the hell he had to deal with in Detroit ... was never selfless. He coulda put in a few more years and broken Walter Payton's records ... but he was happy where he was. He didn't make a fool of himself, running for the Arizona Cardinals and losing .... just to break some records. He ran his whole career, for a losing club, and made the best of it. And even though he never made it to a Superbowl ... Barry Sanders was a class act.

He was selfish, IMO. Rather than take 1 yard, he'd try to juke his way to an 80 yard run. Sometimes it worked, often he lost yards. He set his team up for 2nd and 13, 3rd and 13, etc.--cause he wanted the glory of breaking the big one. But when he did...my oh my did it land him on a highlight tape on ESPN.

What it didn't do, was help his team win.

"He did so many things perfectly right, yet did so many things incredibly wrong that's it's difficult to bridge the gap between the two extremes. As a player, he put together more jaw-dropping runs than any back in history. But an inordinate percentage of his carries netted zero or negative yardage and he displayed little interest in the passing game, either as a receiver or blocker."

So, Barry is sitting at home, watching his highlight tapes of himself break 80 runs and juke and jive, rather than of his team winning games.

1. Strahan's record doesn't deserve an asterix because he didn't cheat. Favre is the one I blame for that. His OL played a great game and he rewarded them by handing over the sack record. He was once a great player, but Favre is also a jerk who thinks he's more important than the game.

2. Bonds just flat-out cheated, it's obvious to everyone, and if MLB had any stones whatsoever they'd strike him from the record books, but instead they're going to let the Giants trot him out there every night to get heckled and boo'd by the fans. Barry is a disgrace.

It sucks and it's totally unfair to Strahan, but c'mon it's a bogus record.

If Favre could go back, I betcha he wouldn't do it again. He probably realizes now that it was a stupid thing to do and he lost the respect of a lot of football fans like me.

Technically, Strahan has the record. But it was given to him, which makes it a really crappy record - astrick or not. :)

I don't think of the Strahan record "scandal" unless some bozo here brings it up. It's legit.

Bonds is a disgrace precisely because he was such a great ball player before this franksenstein period.

Most folks miss how much Sanders' style cost the Lions because he seemed so humble and so good.

"It's legit." ??? More like "technically, Strahan has the record."

i'm surprised anyone even cares about the Sack record, the statistic didn't even exist when guys like Deacon Jones were playing. i don't think a DE should be judged simply based off sacks, its an overrated stat in my opinion anyway.

I think what you may be trying to say, and I agree with you, is that you can be a tremendous defensive end and not get a lot of sacks, but sacks themselves are not an overated stat.

I sack is a huge field position changer. It means that the offense is losing a down AND losing yardage. Sacks are not the only vital stat for a D-Lineman, but it's a huge one.

I think it was the late 60's when they started counting sacks. Hard to say how many Deacon had ... The Strahan record will be broken in the not too far future .. but that doesn't mean he's not a beast!

I think we can agree that Barry Bonds needs to be tied down, and have a giant asterisk tatooed onto his bulbous, widescreen forehead.

yeah, but technically so is a TFL(tackle for loss). That is a loss of down and yardage. That's all a sack is... a glorified TFL. Sacks are an invention just to give players leverage in negotiating contracts.
