I thought 2002 was pretty good. There were jihads, hilarity and all kinds of hijinx. It was the Year of the Curlies as well.

 

Then there was GTG when it was fresh and funny, and posters actually told interesting and funny stories about themselves, stuff that made them legends and resulted in coined phrases.

 

There aren't so many stories now, because there are too many douchebags here.

Congrats to your dau, and hope things get better for you. My parents divorced when I was prolly your dau's age(?) (17). I had a 7 y/o bro at the time as well. It was tough on all, especially my dad and my bro. I never thought my dad would get over it ok but he did! Time is a healer, especially if you look ahead with positive thoughts. Best wishes to you.

But I didn't hit the geek bored until fall of 04, so I'm certainly not a silverback by this bored's standards.

 

I fundamentally agree with CurlyNight, there is a lot of talk about how this bored isn't what it used to be, but it has grown. If it still had the small membership of 5 years ago, it wouldn't be around. That is reality. So feel free to improve it, since you obviously still hang out here.

 

And we aren't all bad. Heck, shovelheadt has a cruise thread that went 20 posts before somebody referenced him kicking the shiot out of a dog.

I stumbled upon the site for the Help Board then moved over to the FF board. The Geek board intimidated me for a while because everyone seemed to know everyone, they seemed to always make fun of the newbies and there was (for whatever reason) issues between the boards. Well, after padding the posts and no longer being considered a newbie, I ventured over to the Geek board.

 

Ahh, I remember it like it was yesterday, my first Geek board post. Wilzone was in a two man league with his brother. After a couple pages of (somewhat) serious FF discussion I jumped in with a "Yeah, nice team, what are you in? A 2 man league?!" I got a "Who are you?!" and the Wilzone acted all mad like I was serious and responded with something along the lines of "have you read this thread at all?! It is a 2 man league..." Ahhh the memories....

Started out here long ago strictly on the Help board. I was usually only really around on Sundays overanalyzing my decisions. Main Board frustrated me and I was intimidated by the Geek Board. I literally don't think I ever came here until Fall '04 and when I did I so wish I had stopped in long before. Seems I missed out on a lot.

 

ETA: Wow, 6 years this fall and only 2 will have been spent on the Geek bored
