Jerry Porter...DUMB pick league...Draft COMMENTARY...take 2.

Recommended Posts

Grateful Parrot is at Disney. 24 hours is more than enough time. He said he'd try to check in twice a day if possible with high-speed in the hotel room being paid for by the co. A pick is about to be made.

I have enjoyed watching your draft for bragging rights unfold. Your draft rules and policy are none of my business. *However, I must say that it seems extremely inconsiderate to exceed the 12 hour time limit set up and agreed to at the beginning of your draft. It would appear to me that it would only be a common courtesy to the other league members to make your picks within the allotted time, or send some outside party your picks to make for you. :wall:

i have a sinking feeling this league is fading fast.......after all the gung-ho enthusiasm it looks to me as if folks aren't dedicated as they thought they would be...... if we have to plod through this draft in june i can only imagine the level of effort once the season gets here and we focus our attention on the leagues that matter to us

Solo, I noticed you are all gung ho on making picks for people. I just don't agree with picking for GP. If his timer expires, let someone jump his picks until he comes back.

As far as I'm concerned, Yippie can jump in any time and pick Kennison or anyone else available. If GP doesn't make timely picks, his team should suffer being skipped till he gets back instead of you drafting two teams.

that statement seriously pisses me off man. what do I gain by picking for someone at this point. this is someone I have on my own keeper team who I like very much. he's the top WR on FF today rankings. explain this statement, Steel.

Well then step up and say something before hand. Voicing your opinion now, after a pick......whats it doing? so you really think just reeling off pick after pick over the guy is the way to go??? cmon, man. give me some serious advice already.

I disagree Clash.

Most of us check in frequently & are monitoring the draft closely. I'd say this is going to be a hard fought competitive league this season. Except for Solo who's team is already in the tank.

Wednesday evening is great for me. I will be here ready to speed draft. Who else is in?

Steel and everyone else...

Solo is acting commish. In all honesty I don't have a "set" policy or mentality on this issue either way but if the commish says we're picking for a guy then we're picking for a guy and we're moving from there. He put the effort to coordinate this whole thing so he has the right to make an executive decision in this case. Hopefully Parrot will show up before his next pick comes up but seriously already....this is getting ridiculous with people taking so long to make picks.

And to reply to Clash's post...I'm just as "gung ho" as I was when this draft started. I'm still fired up and check in constantly.

Im ALL IN at this point, too. Im pissed this draft is taking so friggin' long already, but mixin' it up once the season starts will far remove us from the nightmare that is the June drafting process. When this stupid thing is over, Im sure we're all going to look back on this thing and laugh.......except of course Steel, who's clearly pissed right now because he's not going to have friggin' Eddie Kennison on his team.............

evening if we skip the ungrateful parrot as i call him-lol to the end of the round.....a pick needs to be made...i have no problem with the commish picking for him based on say mike's rankings here on any starting spot not filled

i will say i don't have any problem with the parrot he seems like a good guy but i will tell you this... he entered my college football league last season...during the early rounds of the draft he got an emergency call to travel overseas on his job...he didn't let me know and i had to end up picking for him...the league eventually folded anyway due to time constarints for many mebers.....but it wouldn't suprise me if he doesn't check-in at all......this is the second time he has timed out on his pick in this league

I just got home from work & saw the pick in there. Besides, you didn't post a pick for Sweetness when he was skipped earlier. Otherwise I would have said something Solo.

Emailed my picks to Mr. Guru last night before bed since I knew I'd be away from the PC till late.

go back and review this dialogue. I made a statement on Monday I believe that I would be picking for Sweetness Monday night if he wasnt able to make it. He made it....he picked. He didnt show......I was picking for him. Sweetness didnt notify anyone of a situation the first time when he was an hour plus over. Parrot told us about this Disney trip 10 days ago, but at this point, Im giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he's had a problem accessing a computer at his hotel......I dont know. I will make one more pick for him in a minute.......once Yip picks. If it comes back around to him after that without communication, he'll be SOL and a decision will be made at the time which direction to move. Im tip toeing along the boundaries of logic right now......please do not push me off into dissaray again.

I did that with the Kennison pick. The Perry was obviously a handcuff with his #1 pick, but a pretty good RB who could turn out to help. RBs are getting paper thin around here.....he needed some insurance.

I agree with this line of thinking 100%...and I'm pretty sure Parrot was going to get his handcuff with one of the 2 picks. Gore was best available on my list....but I had Perry right behind him. Had Gore been taken I would have taken Perry myself. Dude caught 51 passes last year

I'm here and around the computer the rest of the night. Damn what a brutal day teaching tennis. 102 heat index, 99 temperature 7 hours on the court. I'm a cooked turkey and ready to make some picks.

Clash - there seems to be plenty of gung ho from the majority. I check several times a day along with most of the other people here. I truly look forward to checking in on this league.

Hey Scooter - - how many rounds did you say the world championship of ff drafts? Also, what is the starting lineup and scoring? When is draft day? Do you know what pick you are and how many teams?

I'm only curious b/c I'm wanting to know what you can take from this draft and apply  . I'm looking for your perfect team when the time comes. B/C you had a ?? next to fwp as your 3rd or 4th pick here and we can't have ?? going into the championship of them all, what have you learned?

I was really surprised that my top 7 wr's were going by my 2.12 pick. I actually was targeting those two rb's (taylor and foster) believe it or not.

The 5-12 rounds seem like a crap shoot on stud rb's but if you choose a wr 2nd pick you get a stud. I also like the depth at wr/te/rb in these spots.

I'd take #1 over #3. Are you proposing a trade?

Also, I noticed in your sig that in 2005 you took last place in some ff today league. Hang in there..., cause maybe when you down this year, there may be a team below you. :wall:

Ha - yes 12th place last year in a fftoday league in sig. I bet no one else would admit it though. 12th spot drafting position last year to 1st spot this year. I'm looking for a top 7 finish this year :first: . Ha, look at how deep my team is! :wall:

When GP does check in he should have the option of throwing back any player and drafting a player still on the board.

And to reply to Clash's post...I'm just as "gung ho" as I was when this draft started. I'm still fired up and check in constantly.

Solo is co-commish, and several of us put in the enthusiasm to get this thing rockin - more than half the league was heckling sweetness' draft...regardless, that was never an agreed upon thing. The way I understood it, you had 12 hours, and if you would be away longer, you sent a list.

But all this is just putting the wagon ahead of the horse. I think people are just testy because that agreed upon courtest hasn't been happening every time. if everyone would honor that, then this would be smoove like butter. If people can't, then we should abandon the slow draft and pick a day. I just pulled Wednesday out of my arse - it could be Thursday night, next Tuesday, whatever.

I'm all for this league and I disagree with the presumption that it's dying somehow.

No need to worry Clash.

We all just need to figure out how to make the draft work is all, because this is slower than a 90 y/o on the turnpike in the snow with 5' visability. Somewhere there's a 6 month old child crawling faster than this draft.

:wall:

Clash-

I hear you. Its been 24 hours since Parrot was originally on the clock. Thats 12 hours for the 7th round pick and now 12 hours for the 8th round pick. I hope you guys dont hate me making this pick too much.

I am not at all fond of it. I only wish I wasn't working so I could register my discontent with it. I believe that every manager should be ginen 100% autonomy to fock up his or her own draft and sincerely believe that it should never, ever happen, ever. Not in a slow league anyway. Now that's just an opinion, so don't fret over it.

That said, done is done and thre ya go. If I understand correctly, Kennison was picked for him? That's a great pick, and had I not already had TGreen & TGonz I would have taken him at 7.04 - it's a steal right there. So I have no issues with it, because it looks like someone Grateful might want/need. Excellent job, Solo and good call. It got us through a whole other round.

What a great idea! <_<

100% agree to this!

No. No way in hell. Bad enough we picked a guy for him, this cannot be allowed to happen.

No way do we let a whole round go by, then toss back a higher pick. Then some other team BENEFITS from it.

NO WAY can that happen.

He's got Kennison, and there it is. Please stop making this more complicated than it already is. :pointstosky:

As you can tell - I feel quite strongly about this. The competitive balance is compromised from a move like this. Done is done - he has Kennison. Move on.

by the way, to validate my continued interest in this league, I have posted the picks by team, since that topic inexplicably disappeared.

What we should have is our own draft board...Mike sent me a mail with instructions, but I haven't have a chance to follow through. My bad.

For now, enjoy seeing the teams assembled as drafted. Kinda puts it all into perspective. Tough league - If Randy Moss has a big season, one team in particular is going to be really scary. ;)

Enjoy.

ok, now I'm angry.

I just completely finished editing the draft topic, and when I sumbitted the edit to include the last picks after Trent Green, the topic cut off everything after round 2.

I've seen this sort of thing on other forums - topic that can only handle so much, so it truncates.

I am so mad right now I could scream.

I will redo it when I have the time. Now is not that time. For now, if you don't know if somone's picked, look at the team rosters.

Hey guys. Sorry my time management has sucked! I haven't read this thread cause I'm headed back out. But I assume all you guys are bashing me...I'm officially offended, yeah right. I'm having a fantastic time with my my wife and daughter. I checked who's been picked. Thanks Solo for jumping in. Not my top picks, but begger's cant be choosers...and I like the stradegy anyway. I email Guru my next 3 guys on my list as a target. The kid's been wearing down and thus gives me a little time to check in, finally. Again, sorry for extreme delay. As long as this draft has taken, surely one of these past nights we could have all agreed to be online and do a live draft, but you know...hindsight. I'm off to MGM today.

I like the Kennison pick, but the Perry pick has me a little puzzled.

If solo is following the methodology he said he was, why would he pick a 4th (backup) RB instead of a TE, of which he has none?

That pick is a bit odd. Admittedly it's a little irritating as I had interest in Perry next round after the turn, and I'm pretty sure he would have made it...but in writing out the current rosters, I noted that this gave Parrot 4 RBs and 2 WRs. If anything, it should have been a starting position like WR3 instead of a bench position, and especially not a RB since he has 3 already.

This one's got me baffled and I'd kind of like to hear an explanation on the methodology employed. Handcuffing is important, but by all accounts, that was a reach and it was not an immediate need. And more to the point, it goes against the stated strategy solo laid out for picking for someone.

Antsports ADP = 9.10

high = 8.02

low = 14.04

The only reason it has you puzzled is because, like you said, it's a guy you had targeted for one of your next picks. Throw ADP out the window....every set of circumstances is different and in his particular instance he needed a handcuff for his first round pick. The methodology is clear as day.....and even from what you just posted it's evident it was the right pick since Perry wouldn't have made it back to him in round 9. I can GUARANTEE you I would have taken him with my 9th round pick before Parrot got to pick again. There's still several good WR's that are available right now. This was his only shot to get Perry. There's also no rush to get a TE since the remaining ones are all pretty lumped together at this point.

Being this is a ppr league, Perry is actually quite valuable. He caught 51 passes last year and he missed the final 2 games, so he was averaging over 3 1/2 receptions a game. Also, with the loss of our only real pass catching TE in Schobel and the legal issues of henry, expect Perry to be even more involved in the receiving game this year. If he is healthy all year, he could easily catch 60-70 balls. If your going to stock pile a position, RB would be the one to do it at I guess. Perry is a nice bye week back, and a high potential handcuff at the same time.

Problem with ADP at antsports is a lot of the guys drafting don't fully take into consideration the effect of the HP scoring system and the ppr that it has built into it. In real drafts with solid players like this one, Perry's value is much higher.
