jocstrap 8 Posted June 28, 2006 Did I miss anything? Good, Good no fighting. It's time to pull out those dark horse sleeper picks boys. I have to say the quote of the day goes to whoever picked Kevin Curtis and called him Nitro in an unwrapped bag or something along those lines. Definitely made me smile . I am ready to trade! Does the trading block open up immediately after the final pick? We also need to designate who approves trades so there is no collusion! Note - - NO I DON'T WANT TO TRADE........YET! just a couple of things to think about though. Drafting note - ooohhhh boys - Phillip Rivers and Jon Kitna - the rest of the picks are legit! football_scooter 0 Posted June 28, 2006 I was mildly irritated by the Curtis pick - he was on my short list.
Steel City Blues 0 Posted June 28, 2006 For early drafts I try to take guys with good track records of health. Not my primary decision, mind you, but nothing sucks worse than losing a guy to a torn ACL before he can score you one point. I know what you are saying and want to agree with you 100%. I keep getting flashbacks to the year Terrell Davis and that Atlanta RB were concensus #1 and #2 picks. They both crashed harder than Ricky Williams with a lb of rock. SoloMatisse 0 Posted June 28, 2006 Solo, I emailed my next pick to you in anticipation of the inevitable. Good call, Steel. Go ahead and mail in that first game that you'll be playing me because it'll be an "L" and it may be less painful this way!........ can I just go ahead and take anyone off the list...if in fact it is a list?....a multiple choice situation? Ace08 11 Posted June 28, 2006 and youve tabbed yourself 'Ace', and Ive got to fill you in on these basics....... 'rookie' QBs whove done something...... Culpepper's 2nd season........40total TDs Roethlisberger's true rookie regular season record 14-0 Kurt Warner's rookie season........Superbowl title, MVP, 41total TDs Tom Brady's 2nd season......Superbowl title.......... Hey, 'Ace'...........what's that again about 'rookie' QBs???? Ive said it before, and Ill say it again....the only thing that sucks about June drafts is waiting months to whoop people's asses with the guys they all think are scrubs....... You're making it too easy for me Solo... We're talking about fantasy, not "real life" rankings. -Roethlisberger's first year was not a great "fantasy" season. They protected him by calling very conservative pass plays and running the ball up the wazoo. He was a caretaker...nothing more. -Warner was almost 30 years old when he took over...you're comparing apples to oranges. Also....Rivers doesn't have Holt, Bruce, and a productive AZ Hakim....or Mike Martz calling the plays. I'd venture to say Rivers is actually handicapped by one of the worst coaches in the league. -Brady, once again, great "real" season...not a great fantasy season. I'll give you C Pepp....but he had Moss....and once again for as great as he is.....Gates isn't going to stretch the field the way Moss did for C Pepp. I'll give you credit for taking a risk and going with your gut...but I'd be absolutely shocked if Rivers TD to INT ratio was any better than 1:1.....and even that might not be realistic since I really think he'll throw more picks than TD's this year. I'm not saying he won't be a great pro....but every NFL QB must go through the "Right of passage" and take their lumps in their first year starting as a young QB. Like death and taxes.....Rivers will be up and down all season and see his fair share of struggles. Just one man's opinion.

Cant even get any love with the Warner comarison?....youre gonna write me off with the 'almost 30 comment' and then state that it was Mike Martz who walked him thru it? Cmon seriously. Drew Brees scored nearly 30 TDs each of the past 2 years......for one of the 'worst coaches' in the league? Gates and Tomlinson are without a doubt the best 2 in the league at their positions.....Im a little dissapointed my young friend......Ive gotta be honest with ya. I thought you'd be bringing a little more to the table......... By the way...have you not looked over my team below in my sig? Last year was the 1st year of rejoining this league, and I just acquired every one of those names youre looking at. I left this league before and that team had Culpepper and Shaun Alexander on it.........a, uh, different team........
Ace08 11 Posted June 28, 2006 And "how early" I took Green? You mean the 6th round? Yeah - pretty early for a guy who's averaged 4000 yds a season when the run on QBs was coming hot & heavy. I would love to share my wisdom with you - perhaps I will once the players I'd be mentioning have been drafted. Two very simple words for you why I won't draft Trent Green or Tony Gonzalez in any of my leagues this year......Herm Edwards. You're gonna see Larry Johnson left, Larry Johnson right, Larry Johnson up the middle....and a sprinkle of play action and conservative passes. Edwards is a defensive guy.....the Chiefs may win more games, but I really think their passing game is going to be a fantasy disappointment this year. Seriously? Ya think? I know, Im a RAMS fan. But seriously, Jon Kitna and that host of misled misfits known there as receivers are doing squat this year....mark that down. Detroit is where old football coaches go to die!.......Mike Martz will be exposed for the fraud he truly is .........finally. No Faulk, No Bruce, No Holt, No Pace, no love of the fans.....after a couple of ugly Jon Kitna fumbles and pics, he's going to be absolutely loved in Detroit. that is so funny to me that you think otherwise. Ace08 11 Posted June 28, 2006 If we all thought alike....what fun would it be? Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I hear what you're saying.....but I respectfully disagree and I think the Lions will be a pretty good offense this year. Time will tell. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.....but I really think it's the system.....just as much as the players. Remember....Isaac Bruce was considered a "bust" prior to the arrival of Vermeil and Martz. I think you're gonna see at least a couple of those Lion wideouts shed the "bust" title this season. And there's a reason he's only done it with "one" team...because his system worked for so damn long that they kept him and even promoted him....if not he'd be changing jobs constantly and I think we both agree that would be a much worse sign. Say what you will...but he won a Super Bowl with that offense and nobody can take that away from him. Above and beyond that, we're talking about fantasy here....and his teams have put up great fantasy numbers every year.....which is all I care about.

Isaac Bruce had over 120 catches and 1600yds and 12 or 13 TDs his 2nd year in the league.......everyone knew he was a stud that had hamstring issues.........what, did Vermeil and Martz make his hammies better??? You know, I dont want to be too harsh because I know youre a Miami guy, and you love your Miami guys, but youre getting a little heavy there. Culpepper and Chambers........which arent bad picks at all, but DC IS coming off a major ACL issue and may not play the first couple of weeks. Dont be naiive. But McGahee, Frank Gore and your boy Winslow? .....the 'boy wonder'? God, I own McGahee in my main league, but even Im not really loving his outlook this season. FIVE Miami guys? Rock, solid! Id like to feel you on the Winslow love, but I just cant do it. He's missed two full seasons and is coming off a knee tear. Logic can be defied but so much. But to back DC up with KITNA? Im lmao.............but absolutely loving your loyalty to your boys. If we all thought alike....what fun would it be? Dude, he's the OFFENSIVE version of George Seifert! What can I tell you?? Man, Marshall Faulk gets so little love when it comes to his importance with that team. The man is one of the 5 best RBs to ever suit up and a league MVP, and yes, Martz did know how to use him the right way and was very much responsible for his success, but he was still one of the all-time best and a sure fire HOFer. Kevin Jones wasnt even his college team's best RB at VATech..........Lee Suggs was! Martz does NOT have the tools there. and its DETROIT!

Im lmao.............but absolutely loving your loyalty to your boys. Lol...who was your #1 overall pick? I don't consider Chambers and C Pepp as "my Miami" guys cause in all honesty I'm not a HUGE Dolphins fan. So change that statement to "3" Miami guys I cheer for the Phins like I cheer for all the hometown teams but I'm more an NFL lover in general. The CAnes yes....I absolutely have a passion for. I honestly took Chambers and C Pepp based on the upside I perceive for both. If you're gonna downgrade C Pepp...make sure you slam Palmer as well. I'm not expecting ANYTHING out of C Pepp as far as rushing goes...and I think you're gonna see him stay in the pocket alot more ala McNabb. Saban loves to the throw the ball down the field....and I think when you combine a great deep passer with one of the more athletic receivers in football.....there's a recipe for good things there. Look at what Chambers has done with some HORRIBLE QB's....that speaks for itself. But their track record speaks for itself. Consider that 3 of the top 14 picks (Portis, Edge, McGahee) in almost every draft this year will be "Miami" guys. Wayne, Andre Johnson and Shockey are high choices as well. You don't have to feel me on Winslow....like I said before time will tell. I never said my picks didn't have risk....I'm all about upside. I'm not trying to win the vote for "best looking team coming out of the draft"....I'm trying to win the league the best way I know how. To win that vote you gotta take 5 or 6 RB's and then load up your WR's with big name "value" picks who in reality aren't going to produce in my opinion. I'm extremely happy with my team just the way it is....there honestly isn't one pick that I look back at and say " I wish I would have gone another direction". The thing is....everyone in the league feels the same way about their respective teams....which is great. The great thing is this isn't a mock, these teams will all have to withstand the test of time this season and THEN be graded/measured. "Depth" is overrated since, in reality, there's a good chance you're not going to win a league as competitive as this if you are unlucky enough to lose one of your first 2 picks anyways. After the first 20 or so backs...you're basically gambling on some form of RBBC or taking a backup with the hope the starter gets hurt....it's conceivable that alot of those picks never even see a fantasy starting lineup. 1 good backup RB and 1 good backup WR is all I've ever banked on in all my years playing fantasy and I've done well with it given the fact my starting lineup is always stacked (which I feel mine is in this league)....I'll simply fill out my roster with late "sleeper" or "gambles" at RB later. If just one of those happens to pan out...it's gravy. Point is...there's more than 1 way to skin a cat....everyone has a strategy that has worked for them. SoloMatisse 0 Posted June 28, 2006 .....#1 pick.........got me. Im lmao right now, and its absolutely friggin' contagious! And Im with you on the Chambers love. He's one of the best, even playing all these years with below avg Qs. SoloMatisse 0 Posted June 28, 2006 DRAFT PICK UPDATE(regarding those immediately following Parrot)........ Yippie , please proceed with the draft. the 12 hour period with Grateful Parrot has elapsed yet again, and no pick list has been left with anyone. With any luck, he won't be skipped over for too long, but at this point he's in violation and skipping his picks is appropriate. I will NOT make any more picks here. So please pick as you choose, but label your picks appropriately as we have previously, again beginning with Yip at 11.12 and 12.01. Draft well!!!

Yippie Skippy 0 Posted June 28, 2006 Did I mention I got VD today?? Vernon Davis will excel out of the gate IMO. I curious as to your opinion of him Scooter?? How did you feel when the niners drafted him and how do you feel about him now?? I thought his value at the bottom of the 11th was too hard to pass up. I may have to draft him a round earlier in my $ leagues in early september.

Q#1: loved it Q#2: love him Q#3: I damn near took him over Verron, but with all those handcuffs going, I felt it was important to cover my a$$ at RB2 with the handcuff to the undersized FWP. Great pick, and great value. Keep in mind that they'll be running 2 TE sets, and some TE who was hurt will still catch his share of passes - but Davis has field stretching ability and Norv's whole thing is to pound the rock and then go deep off of play action. That's going to be huge for VDavis, IMO. 80/900/7 would be terrific, but a lot will depend on a 2nd year starter at QB who shall remain nameless.

jocstrap 8 Posted June 29, 2006 wow - now the 3rd stringers are starting to go...and it's only the 12th round! Good luck with that Staley pick, Ellison... Here is a possibility with the Staley pick - he is now big, slow, and fat, yet strong (bus) - I bet he will be given 1 opportunity to convert a 3rd and 1 and he's does successfully...first down! He converts and is now 1 out of 1 in his new short yardage role. He is next given 1 chance and 1 chance only to convert on 3rd and 1 from the 1 and he punches it in ...TD Then the snowball effect occurs and Staley get 10td's on the season! or maybe not!
