Jerry Porter...DUMB pick league...Draft COMMENTARY...take 2.

I know he hasn't been drafted yet.....and I shouldn't mention his name...

But Dwayne Wade is my hero.

No.

Not in the slightest.

I had his name typed in. I had just read more news about TJ's absence in camp, and I typed in CB's name and almost hit "submit".

Then I remembered last year when I was on the clock in one league. i had read all sorts of things about how Benson would be "the man" and all....didn't work out too well.

In the end, I decided that my starting TE was more important to me at this point in the draft than a RB3. seeing as it's the 5th, I didn't think I'd survive the next 20 picks with an elite TE option still sliding to me - just because I do think there's not as much difference than in the past doesn't mean I don't recognize the value of a guy who averages 89 receptions a season in a PPR league.

As for your rookie Addai, I love how you called him the "starting RB for the Colts" - you mean, you hope. If you think I didn't see him coming either, you're mistaken. I prefer to not take rooks unless I think it's a better bet. I am not all that interested in Addai. I think it'll be a relatively even split of carries there.

but hey, good luck with all that and keep telling yourself I was sleeping. I kinda like my draft so far. I am fairly certain I'll compete.

Im learning, the one thing that completely sucks about a June league draft..........it'll be months before people realize theyre getting the hammer dropped on them. I know youre having a decent draft, and you'll compete.......but Ive already won this league, and I havent even drafted my QB yet.

:D

........and Ace-

can Miami do anything wrong right now??? Youre gonna be the only dude in this league with 21 guys on your team once this draft is done........cause Im creating a 'Dwayne Wade' player and throwing him on your roster......youve gotta have that dude!!!

oh, and ps - happy father's day to all you mothers.

Again solo - you're dreaming. Your roster is shakey and you know it. Things might pan out for you and you can declare yourself a genius...I'm betting against it.

Genius and logic often dance alone......because they are surrounded by large groups of uncertainty. And I do believe right around this time last year, you were 'betting' on some guy named Priest that some 'geniuses' out there were warning you about. Right, right.....you came back a couple of weeks into the season and traded Eddie Kennison and some other scrub for LJ, so it didnt really matter.........

You know Im just fuelin' your flame......my team sucks, and we both know it.......... :P

Just checking in during my lunch break...and I see things still haven't moved. I won't be able to log in again until about 6:30 tonight. But seeing that Sweet is on the clock until 8 PM I'm guessing I should be Ok.

As for the series Solo.....it might be 3-2 but I'm still not feeling great. Stealing one in Dallas is gonna be tough....but at least we have a chance, which is all you can ask for.

Tell me this kid isn't looking Jordan-ish at this stage in his career. This isn't 30-10 Shaq anymore....the kid is creating alot of his shots on his own.

Dallas cries like a bunch of babies. When Miami lost the first 2 games they didn't ######, cry or complain...they just took it on the chin and bounced back. All Dallas has done since they arrived in Miami was blame the refs, weather, Karma, El Nino, or any other outside influence that felt convenient.

All I'm gonna say is this...the call might have been a bit questionable but so was the one that got Nowitzki to the foul line to give Dallas a 1 point lead in the first place. The difference is Wade is money/clutch and MADE his free throws....whereas Mr. David Hasslehoff has now chocked TWICE in the same instance. Nowitzki gets away with initiating more contact WITH the ball in his hands than any player I've ever seen. He'll drive left...lower the shoulder and bump INTO the defender...then fade to act like he was the one pushed and gets foul shots.

Honestly......the call was nothing more than poetic justice after Nowitzki got TWO calls identical to what I described above in the last 3 minutes of the game. If he makes his free throws (like "clutch" superstars are supposed to) it goes to double overtime anyways.

Completely agree. And I think the coach flat out embarassed himself in the press conference when he was making that reporter squirm and trashing him for his "politically correct" answer without saying why he thought it was a bad call. So focking dramatic. Just shut up, take it on the chin, and say you're going to go out and play better next game. Whining is for little girls with skinned knees.

lol - I was thinking the same...I mean, i think he has the value to be picked there, but picking him there all but ruins his value, if you know what I mean. I think he'd have been there on the way back, and I can think of 2-3 TEs who would be taken before him.

Definately shoulda waited until 6-7th round for Heap - he's a "sleeper" in my real drafts this season. You failed to take advantage of his sleeperness, IMO.

I will update the picks as time allows - might not be until tonight. I think I'm only a few picks behind, so relax fockers.

;)

Explain to me why you need Ace here to make your pick.....he's following you right. Im looking to set precedent. Its about time we did. Didnt you HS teacher ever tell in class when you were squirming with that puzzled look on your face and studdering and stammering and sweating and the stalling until finally the wrong answer comes out, " if you dont know the right answer by now, you'll never know".

Look, Im just trying to keep this thing moving, and dont want to wait until late July to wrap it up. Ive grown admittedly impatient because we've been on this over a week now and have yet to finish the 5th round. Dont wait until he's in the room.....there are others who can peek in here NOW and see who youve taken and begin their brainstorming. If you dont have a clue, then I understand. If you do, just do it.

ok i picked....it was brutal though. i went with the safe choice....hassel is the player that has been consistent the past couple of years, and i like the easy division hes in with some teams where he will have to throw to put up points.

but, with my luck he will probly go off the field on the cart with a torn ACL. :o

that's a great pick. You know what you get with him, and he'll throw low INTs, which means less negative points for you. They'll throw the ball a ton this year too, once SA goes down with some kindof fluky, "Madden-jinx" type of injury. I love the pick.....very good value.

as i step back up on my soapbox again...... :P

if you are going to be away for any period of time..as in for instance an entire weekend where are you moving for instance.......please use some common courtesy and send someone a predraft list...it's really disrespectful to the other league members to make them wait especially when you know in advance...emergencies of course are understood....

with the pace now this thing isn't going to be over until mid july....we have only completed 4 round in a little over 8 days now.....some of us do have other matters and vacations to tend to and would like to get this wrapped up

stepping off the soapbox now... ....thank you drive through

and the pick of matt hasselbeck may just be the best value pick in the entire draft...i cannot believe he lasted this long...obviously some here and paid no clue to the scoring format here by evidence of the respective picks-lol

Ellisonb11, I would volunteer to make your picks for you. However, I am going to be involved in a three day golf tourney this Fri thru Sun. I will only be able to check in after 11:00 pm each day. *Your picks, if given to me, must be in the order you want them taken. I would not feel comfortable using any descretion on your behalf. I would be glad to help if I can.

thanks for volunteering guru, i appreciate it. im not sure if the guys would be happy waiting until 11 pm because the clock on my pick might run out, and i dont want to get jumped like sweetness (you know u guys will do it). maybe the league could be considerate and wait till after 11 PM for my pick?

if anybody has a suggestion on someone that will be around to check frequently during the day. ill keep in touch if i need u guru, which will probably be the case and i appreciate it and once again, thanks for volunteering.

I love Mason as a #3 WR. I think he has the potential to signficantly outproduce his relative draft position and post lower end WR#1 to upper tier WR#2 numbers with you-know-who at the helm now.

But for the record...this was the toughest pick I've had to make so far due to the fact there were 4 guys on the board right now who I think are absolute steals. I went with Mason cause I don't think anyone is going to have a better #3 WR which I think at least gives me somewhat of an advantage.....but there are 3 guys left on the board right now that were REALLY enticing. If just one of the 3 makes it back to me at 6.04 I would be thrilled. I'll comment more on this once my next pick comes up.

Side note.....I nominate Avery Johnson for buffoon of the year. I don't care what he says in the post game press conference....he messed up, thought he had 2 timeouts, and was signaling for a timeout right before Josh Howard called it. THAT my friends....is why Pat Riley is a more valuable coach. All this Avery Johnson hype is unmerited this early in his career...he's gotta WIN something first. That brain fart might cost them the series.

Maybe we can get Fumbleweed or Dabomb to fill in. Theyre drafting right now in the June mock, and both are around frequently. I thought I saw Fumble pop his head in here and volunteer. Look over his picks in that draft, El, and see if you feel you can count on him or Bomb. Obviously, they both know what theyre doing.

almost took Mason with my last pick. Great grab here - expect 80/1100/10 in his sleep in his little reunion in BALT.

Quite a compliment coming from you. Thanks.

For the record McNabb was one of the 4 guys I had in mind as "enticing"....great pick Steel City.

Draft is starting to gain momemtum. Roll on 18 wheeler...Roll on!

Didn't expect McNabb to be there. He's held together with duck tape & chewing gum, but the Chunky soup curse is behind him. Thanks BEN!

Hassle is a rock, but his receivers make me ill. Not even sure if DJ will be reliable with his bionic knees. As usual, I'm probably missing the boat.

and mcnabbs receivers dont make u ill? . id much rather have the 'hawks wrs rather than the iggles wrs. no question about that. i love mcnabb this year, i just went with a safer choice IMO, because hes on a more efficient offense.

.....and then finally, the run began. Nice pick, Steel with McNabb....and 'get off'!! for going so early. You da man!

I know exactly what you mean. I drafted Peyton once in the 2nd. It was excruciating waiting for QBs to start falling off the board so I could "catch up". Good news is Peyton helped me make the playoffs that year, but my heart couldn't take the pain of another draft like that.

Yes they do, but Philly scores through the air while Seattle can score at will on the ground.

Hasslebeck is a solid pick for a sane person's rankings. I'm the odd one out here because everyone else has him higher than me. I project a decline in Hassle's numbers and would have passed on him at 3.10, so yes I am

The interesting aspect of your season now, El, will be whether or not Hasselbeck can break that Superbowl loser's jinx and actually have a decent year. McNabb was coming off a Superbowl last year, look how his and the Eagles season turned out. The year before that it was Carolina, and Steve Smith misses the entire season and the Pathers go 7-9. The list goes on and on, but all things must change at some point...........or must they???? hmmmm.............

that frightens me, but i wanted a QB and i was also afraid of mcnabb and his division. i dont care if the seahawks win or not, i just predicted many shootouts against the high powered offensive teams in their division (AZ, STL). if hasselbeck cant get it done with his schedule, i think it would just be my terrible luck. hes had 3 straight seasons of atleast 3300 yards. i like consistency, im tired of being burnt at the QB position.
