Recommended Posts

No CBSportsline Fantasy games access but they allow me to come here??!! I waste more time here during the season than anywhere else. Some work buddies want me to commish their league again but I guess that's out the window since most of my extra time at work went to working on that league for them. to the fact that my work production still won't go up.

Anyone else have jobs that expect you to work?

I am in the same boat as you! I have searched and searched, but there is no way around it. Luckily I am still able to come here. The good news...today is my last day here, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my new job doesnt have the same web blocker!

Me too. Websense blocks me out of most FF stuff, but for some reason, doesn't restrict access here.

My company did it to. It really sucks. They use the Baracuda filter. I can see eliminating e-bay, games, porn in the workplace but we don't really "play" fantasy football during the week. I look at it like anyone would look at CNN, I look for news about players and game insights at work.

I am at work right now as well. I wonder why I can access this site and not CBS,NFL, ESPN ... and the list goes on.

I see your agrument but fantasy football is just gambling really. My work is blocking it as "Games" but they could easily just argue that it's educated craps that I'm playing.

I bet your management considers it gambling. A large contingent of us at an old job got burned on an internet sting at work. They grilled us pretty good. Now you visit a general sports site like espn and you see adds for playboy, or hot chicks, or gambling, they hit us for that too. So my manager then thinks I am viewing porn, and gambling since there are ads for gambling on sports sites too! management considered fantasy sports gambling and since you are not supposed to gamble at work it was off limits.

Oh and the company I worked for at the time, a small independant broker dealer....their reps sold stocks and bonds, annuites, mutual funds etc...so they were involved with the stock market right???....Gambling!!!!! Go figure.

They checked a two week time frame on my non work related interenet actions and found I was spending 25% of my work time not working....and that was just my non working internet work time....it didn't include my non internet related non working work time! I am a lazy bastard!

Morale plays an important role in the workplace. A content employee is a productive employee. Fantasy football can help to facilitate discussions and build relationships in the workplace. These relationships can eventually lead to multi-million dollars deals being made.

Sounds good...you think my boss will buy it?

If you have some technical skills, you could install a modem line or tap into some analog line and use dial up. That's what I do! I can surf 8 hours a day if needed, albeit a bit slower but at least i'm not surfing on the company's network. Matter of fact when I got my promotion last year, one of their reasons in my review was that i make good use of time and I spend less time playing on the internet than most of the people in my department!!!

You've been blocked. I'll take Gates, Chambers, FWP and 3 1st rounders for Boston, Stevens, Dunn and full internet access including porno. No one can pass up that sweet deal.

Couldn't they realistically fire you for being on Oprah.com all day and not doing your actual job? Just a thought.

Good, maybe you slackers can start earning your paychecks then!

Seriously, Internet access is a hotbed topic in most companies these days. With the advent of chat programs, viruses etc.. people spend more time surfing than ever before. Companies are smart to just block things out wholesale, rather than going after the offenders. Almost every company I work for (Consultant so I get around) has it one form or another and beware.. I have seen a large number of people fired over their internet usage and I'm not referring to porn, radio streams, fantasy games, personal email accounts and a number of other things.

My advice, invest in a handheld device like an IPAQ or Smartphone with a browser. They are cheap now and access isn't that expensive and you can take it anywhere. Some even boast broadband speed.

If I was to get in trouble for wasting time surfing the web then they better fire all the smokers who take a break every 30 minutes smoking it up. Friggin unhealthy deadbeats.

Are you serious? Ever heard of sticking it to the man? I wonder how hard those execs work for their paychecks.

Poor employer, not getting maximum efficiency out of his slave. He's losing tens of dollars by the quarter, and the budget for his daughter's super sweet 16 birthday party is going down by the day.

That's hilarious. I don't think I could work at a job that diodn't allow, say at least 5 minutes to go over personal things. More and more workplaces are doing this because of the popularity ff has gotten. Its the bad seeds, the guys that stay on sites forver, that give you a bad name. Sucks, gl on it though

This is really more for the Geek Bored and for that I apologize. Comparing surfing FF internet sites to someone taking a smoke break is totally rediculous and just discriminatory. Yes, I smoke.

1. A smoke takes 5 minutes. When was the last time you went surfing FF internet sites and only spent 5 minutes? NEVER.

2. I used to work for an accounting software company. The system was full of glitches. Why they were so successful, I will never understand. When I went out for a cig, I was thinking about problems and how to solve them, not which WR to take as my #5. I can't even tell you how many epiphanies I had about how to solve problems when having a smoke. Guess I should have been thinking about where to draft a D and handed the problem off to someone else rather than solving it.

3. I read an article about 20 yrs ago that concluded that smoking execs were 23% more productive than their non smoking conterparts. I was an Asst VP at the time and my boss wanted me to quit. I didn't. He got fired and I got his job.

Deadbeat, me? Retired at 55 and set for life. Keep surfing and hating. Eat some cabbage, fart your life away and keep surfing the net. Or, maybe figure out a way to get where this deadbeat is.

Yeah, lets get real here. It isn't like I have something to do at work. I would rather do my FF research instead of working.

Since you felt the need to discuss this nonsense on this thread, I feel the need to reply to each one of your comments above...

1. A smoke takes 5 minutes...may be a little conservative but I'll give you that. But when you take TEN 5 minute breaks per day, IT ADDS UP! Do the math there slappy

2. You're full of sh*t....thinking about how to solve problems on your cig break?...who are you kidding. You bullsh*t with other smokers (probably about fantasy football) and check out the ladies as they walk by. Thinking about solving problems...why don't come up with a solution on how to quit smoking.

3. All those productive smoking execs from 20 years ago you mentioned? there all DEAD now...how does that grab you.

Lastly, this is a football website...not a site for you to talk about how successful you think you are. You say your retired at 55 and set for life?....probably won't do you much good when in about 5 years you go to sleep one night and your lungs tell you to go f*ck yourself and call it quits.

They blocked CBS where I work and I just called up IT and told them the site was misclassified as a gambling site when it should be a sports site. Next day it was back up.
