I thought I read there were red flags all over Henry when drafted, but could be wrong. As far as Holmes I heard nothing bad I can think of.

It was really crazy, because they started the conversation off talking about the New EA Sports football game and then when they talked about Ben, Cowher really sounded like in his discussions with Ben that it was a life changing experience for Ben. He also said that he wants Ben to continue to be the FREE SPIRIT that he is becuase that is how he go to where is his and that the motorcycle will no longer be an issue. Then they talked about how things have changed and all of a sudden, they interrupted him and told him about the breaking news about Holmes. When that happened, he said he heard about it and that he couldnt comment on it because he didnt have enough info yet, but the tone in his voice changed as if his starting LB just got a 15 yard penalty and cost his team a 1st down. He was none too happy.

I think most of it has to do with the "big pay day". Relatives seeing what kind of piece they can get. If they don't like it I guess Family Feud 2006 breaks out. Total shame that these deadbeats try to "skate" their way into the life of the families famous athlete.

In all fairness to these guys.... and this may offend any number of people around here, but all these troubles these guys have are directly related to their upbringings. A lot of these guys came up in areas where run ins with the law were no big deal. Some have managed to avoid trouble before, lets face it, college and HS athletes often get their troubles thrown out... but once they become adults it changes, add to that the press is now paying attention to them. The smart ones change their ways, the dumb ones continue as they have in the past and eventually the percentages catch up to them and they get nailed.

Just as a note, the Post-Gazette is reporting that he has pled not guilty to this latest charge. I realize that this does not make him innocent, but the scrutiny that he faces in the public eye because he is an athlete of no small distinction often sidesteps the detail of proof before guilt is established. Court date is yet to be determined.

 

If he's guilty, he's guilty, and bears the responsibility of dealing with public chastisement. But we could, in fact, be a bit premature, and it would constitute a little egg on the face if the details don't bear out the accusation.
