I see MANY reasons and I'm a Packer fan. It's great to be a fan, but don't go crazy and make people think less of us than they already do. Now, where to start - O-Line (especially if Clifton has issues all year), RB, Rookie WR in the #2 spot, DB's, D-line.........Sorry man - I have to live in reality either way. Better than last year on the field? Sure. In the standings? Maybe. Playoff team - afraid not.

Red White and Blue 81 Posted August 10, 2006 I think it's a shame that Favre is going to continue to disgrace himself, tarnish his legacy and impede the progress of Rodgers just because his ego won't allow him to admit that it's time to hang the cleats up. Nguman 0 Posted August 10, 2006 On a serious note, how does Greg Jennings look, fellow Western Michigan alumni, chance of making team, contributing? I'm a homer and from all things reported, the coaches love him. He has really wow'd them in practice and in last Friday's scrimmage, had an amazing catch and run (65 yrds?). Unfortunately he's hurt and has not practice for a couple of day. He's battling Rod Gardner for #2 WR position and some people believed he will cement that by week 1. Phurfur 70 Posted August 10, 2006 http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/sports/ind...084&ntpid=5looks like Barnett doesn't want to move outside I wonder if he would change his mind if they left him in the middle and Hodge beat him out. Barnett is only an average middle linebacker and has made more than a few mistakes over the years. I don't care what his numbers are the fact remains GB could not stop the run last year. On a serious note, how does Greg Jennings look, fellow Western Michigan alumni, chance of making team, contributing? Jennings is doing great and Favre likes him allot. Favre called him a natural who has instincts you can't teach. I expect him to be #2 by the end of the year.

Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted August 10, 2006 Barnett sounds kind of self-centered in that article. I hope he changes his attitude. When I saw the Hodge pick I immediatedly expected Barnett to move outside. Stats are one thing but if he could prove that he could play at least 2 lb spots wouldn't that offset the loss of some tackles as far as his value is concerned?
uubeee 0 Posted August 10, 2006 there is the sports side and the business side. If the Packers know they have a great football player in Barnett, then they should extend his contract while they have the room. It makes Barnett happy and allows him to move outside. Giving us Barnett Hodge and Hawk as one of the best LB cores (at least in a year or two) in the league. I think we should give to those who played hard and deserve it. Nick has played hard at all times and deserves to be recognized. He may make some mistakes, but he is not and was never a natural inside LB, yet he led the D every year he has been here. $.

hoffdaddy 1 Posted August 10, 2006 For what it's worth, this team may have five rookie starters. It's what they need to do, because the incumbents apparently sucked ass. But it's a bit scary too, because you know there will be some growing pains. Rooks I expect to start include: Jason Spitz - Guard Daryn Colledge - Gaurd Greg Jennings - WR Abdul Hodge - LB AJ Hawk - LB Not too mention, they're trying like crazy to make Corey Rodgers their punt returner, though he is struggling a bit right now. hoffdaddy 1 Posted August 10, 2006 How has Fergie looked so far? I haven't been up on my Packers like I should. Also, the latest on Ben Steele, please Typical Fergy. He's talking about how he needs to and will setp up his game, only to be outperformed by the rookie WR, in this case Jennings. Last year it was Murphy. If not for special teams play, I'm thinking he'd be cut. And Ben STEELE of the draft is still my late round flyer.
Brad GLuckman 519 Posted August 10, 2006 I missed something, Whats up with Swamp? Also, realistically I don't see Green bay as a playoff team this year. Maybe in a couple, but they are so young, five possible rookie starters is quite a bit. Their O Line could either turn out pretty good, or it could be a complete disaster if the rooks don't pan out, and a lack of depth will most likely hurt them during the season. On the issue of Favre, I don't see how he's impeding Rodgers' progress. If anything I would think sitting is good for the kid. Reports are that he's looking alot better than last year, and hopefully that holds up. I think another year behind Favre will help him, especially with his confidence. Throwing him in there when he's not ready, and he's not, could destroy a young QB's career. As far as Barnett. I'm glad he said what is really on his mind. I hate reading interviews and by the end of it you have no idea what the guy really thinks because you knwo he's just saying whatever he's "supposed" to say. Hodge is exciting to watch, but we need consistency right now. I say, leave Barnett where he is, start Hawk and Taylor, and rotate in Hodge when necessary. he needs to work on coverage, it'll be nice to see if he gets any better throughout the preseason. And finally...apparently Favre is lonely. I could see how being the only guy from the original team left would suck. But you gotta feel for the Wrobel kid, wants to go hang out with Favre, but gets turned down. His response seems like he's sad. Anyways here is the link http://www.packersnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a.../608090581/1989

Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted August 11, 2006 I must apologize to all NFC North fans here. I schooled the Pup a couple of times reagarding posting opinions as facts and turned him into LinkBoy. My bad. But back on topic. I can see .500 this year. O line can't be worse and Pack was in injury hell last year. If only Murphy had not been lost, I think we would be talking about how good the WR corps could be with Jennings and the rest. The D is very much improved. What's not to like? I really would like to see Benett extended and move outside so that Hodge can play the middle. Maybe a learning curve early but after 4-5 games this D could really be something special. Last, I am so happy to know that the Pup won't come in here with his dilusional BS. Think it was Donhass who made the bet, a big thankyou! (If I am wrong on who it was, SORRY). Favre was playing with his 6th string RB and no names at WR with the exception of Donald Driver. Give the guy a break. He is still better than half the QB in the league and there has been no progress from Rodgers to impeded. Rodgers will never be anything more than the next Kyle Boller anyway. The day Favre retires will be a sad day for football. There have been few to play with the heart and passion that Favre plays with. Anyone who thinks any different isnt a true football fan. I always just assumed that the bickering back and forth was more or less good natured beneath the surface. I guess not. Most of the bickering that goes on between much more heated rivals Bears and Vikings is good natured. His entrance into every ssingle Packer thread was angry and anti-social and part of a larger psychological problem. They'll be plenty of people to pick up his slack and he'll be back in two weeks. In the meantime, Packer football can be discussed without constant flame wars. Soon both donhaas and swamp will miss the bickering. You know you guys enjoy it. Just make up so you can get back to arguing.... if that makes sense Can I get a link to the "final" argument where this whole agreement went down? It's in the Lions thread. It just got old. I'm surprised he agreed. It's an easy bet for me. Making me stay out of Lions threads for two weeks is like making me stay out of a gay bar for two weeks.
