I'm wondering how important draft position is to performace so far this year.

I attribute success to a few factors:

-Draft scouting / prep

-Shrewd roster maneuvering - via trades / waiver wire / injury management

-Matchup analysis

-And of course good old fashioned luck with affects everything stated above. Knowledge goes along way, but the cards need to fall in your favor too.

Definitely non-scientific - notice how just about all previous posts were from managers whose teams are near the top of their leagues?

 

FWIW in my 2 leagues:

Not too hard to figure out why - my 1st 3 picks in my 10-teamer where LJ, Holt, Harrison. 1st 3 in my 12-teamer...Caddy, CJ, Hasselbeck. Shocking results...

 

I have a hunch that a high % of those teams that drafted later in the 1st round are near the top of their leagues now because they snagged McNabb somewhere in rounds 3-6...but that's just a hunch...

Here's mine, along with the current picks and records for the rest of my league. Ours is a 10-team league:

With all the first-round busts this year, I personally don't think that position had much to do with it. Like they say, it's rounds 5-12 that make or break you...
