Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted January 10, 2007 I am sure that they will kick me out once they found out that my arrest record is 5 miles long or that I think that everyone who breaks the law should be gassed. Anyone have any horror stories of long trials?
jocstrap 8 Posted January 10, 2007 Dude if they select you, there is no work for the duration of the trial AND you get paid like 5$ a day. Can't beat that! GOOD LUCK!
TommyGavin 790 Posted January 10, 2007 bring a book. I talked my way out of it - I cant follow rules, if the judge says to strike that from the record and I already heard it - it's staying with me - both lawyers told me to get the fock out.
Snuff 10 Posted January 10, 2007 Just had jury duty Monday and Tuesday. Was "interviewed" for a homicide trial where they are seeking the death penalty. I bs'd my way out. I get a whopping $18 for 2 days on jury duty.
Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted January 10, 2007 My sister had Grand Jury for 3 months In MA, we get paid nothing for the first 3 days of jury duty. After that, I rake in the big bucks of $50 per day.
Bert 1,128 Posted January 10, 2007 The get out of jail free card is: The bible says that only God should judge people so I can't judge another person, that would be a sin.

Also, just wear a t-shirt that says "GUILTY". or sit there pretending to pet a kitty or say "my name is _______ but people call me Mr. big dong" or leave your shoes untied or when they call your name say "YES! AWESOME!" or wear a t-shirt backwards with the tag sticking out

Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted January 11, 2007 Just tell everyone you aren't racist and that you think niggars are people too. That is what I put on the survey form. Although, I had some class and only called them "those colored folks" since it was a legal document
Scorpion 0 Posted January 11, 2007 6 months!!! That was horrible (it wasn't me but a guy I worked with). It was a land case and people who built too close to water.... 4 days a week. Friday's off. Luckily, his job paid him the whole time. Me, I've only had 2,3 day cases. Hints: Be one of the last to arrive, you may get excused. Act smart, they don't like smart people

tony hardware 0 Posted January 11, 2007 I was way hungover and had the serious shits on the morning of my jury duty. I lit up the bathroom like 3 times in about 90 minutes. I was squirming like a choir boy's first time. Luckily, we were dismissed because the criminal trials on for the day resolved at pre-trial. Which court house in MA is your doody? Cambridge I not only got jury duty, but I ended up in Superior Court with no reasonable way of transfering venue.

rallo 136 Posted January 11, 2007 basically if you just say racial slurrs the whole time, (of which ever ethnicity they are trying) i'm sure they would be more than happy to escort you out of the court room.
Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted January 12, 2007 So here is the update. I (and about 199 others) ended up waiting around for most of the day in Superior Court. Around 2:30, they pulled 25 of us up to the District Court for impanelment on a grand larceny case. I was around 17th in line for a 6 person jury (with 2 alternates). After several people were disqualified, I was getting close to being called. I was warming up my best impersonation of turrets syndrome, but they got a full jury out of the folks in front of me. I was glad that I was not picked because it would have been a half day tomorrow (closing early to work on the elevators), a holiday on Monday, and at least some time on Tuesday. So I would have had 3 days of a trial that would normally go a day. On my way out the door, I did one of these I was sort of hoping to get on jury since I watched "Runaway Jury" last night in preparation. Oh well.
TommyGavin 790 Posted January 12, 2007 yeah I read alot of books (fiction) and I think jury duty is awesome. However I own my own business and if I'm @ a "forced" JD I'm focked. I'd rather schedule a week that I know I'd be available.
Jeremy 0 Posted January 12, 2007 I narrowly missed a murder trial that lasted about a week. I was eliminated during the part where the attorneys each get to pick 3 people (or whatever the number was) to kick out at their discretion. I was a 25 year old substitute teacher at the time. I'm sort of curious which attorney didn't want me and why I was axed. Overall I was relieved that I didn't have to serve. As a sub teacher, you only get paid when you work and I was living paycheck to paycheck. Later I got on a trial where the state wanted to take her child away because of neglect. If we found there was enough there to consider her an unfit parent, the judge would make the final decision on it. This would be her 3rd kid that was taken away from her. We found her to be unfit. The deliberation took about an hour. It was an interesting experience to say the least. That was a 1 day trial, if I recall correctly. It might have spilled over into a 2nd day.
