Alcoholism is not a disease. That is just made up by people who can't control what they do or become when drinking. Several cases of beer a week along with 2 halfgallons of wiskey. For more than 10 years. Drunk everyday for more than 10 years. Had a son and poof, I quit drinking, all together. Cold turkey. No problem. I have been to many AA meetings and they are a joke. I was told by the coutrs that I had to go to AA meetings every other day for around 6 months. It made me sick how all these people go in to these meetings and blame EVERYTHING that is wrong in there life on alchol. Some times I would bust out laughing at what these people would say some beer would make them do. Alcoholism is not a disease, it's a choice. Cancer is a disease. MS is a disease. (see below ) I think it's fair to say that both of them have found themselves in the weakest and most vulnerable places that they ever thought they'd find themselves to be. It appears that Saw found the strength to overcome the hell that her life had become and she fought hard to pull herself up and out of that. Now she is reaping the benefits of her efforts by enjoying how wonderful her life has become. She's proud of herself and she should be. I'm sure she reminds herself every day where she's been and that probably helps keep her pushing forward to make sure that she never goes back to the place she left. Sounds like TNG also recognized that things were as bad as they could get for her. Experiencing that pain made her find her own strength to make things better in the form of seeking help for herself to feel good again and become emotionally healthy. NewGirl, I'm sure you know that depression is nothing to take lightly - especially when it reaches levels that you seem to have gone to. I wish you continued success in working through this. Whatever you do, don't give up - you'll see that one day all of your efforts will have paid off and you will feel great once again. Instead of bashing eachother for your weaknesses - you should both be supporting eachother for finding your own strengths to overcome. this is the feel good statement of this thread. That being said I think alcoholism and some forms of cancer (aka lung cancer) are preventable diseases. If a :cough: :cough: smoker dies from lung cancer, I say WTF did you think was going to happen? Same goes for alcohol. If you drink a fifth of Jack Daniels every day WTF do you think is going to happen? I was simply just making a statement about my experience with all that AA and other BS I went through when I got a DUI, about 15+ years ago. At any rate, I've been away for a long time and need a refresher. Is The New Girl the same girl who recently had a baby, about a year ago? She was always one of my favorite curlies, and I am sad to see her so full of venom. Goofing on Rusty's dad does not seem like her. Is Big Pete even a real person, or is she an alias? The reason I ask is some of his posts in this thread seem kind of, well, chickish. No offense to Sawlison or Big Pete, and if I am wrong I'm glad she is happy. But I just kind of have this vibe, that if Big Pete is real, he runs on batteries and sleeps in Sawlison's night table. Also, he may smell like an old tuna sammich. I do know that Sawlison is real BTW, because I was watching a NASA show on DiscoveryHD the other night and they showed her fivehead, as seen from the Space Station.
