robb 81 Posted June 1, 2007 That's one of the advantages of taking Manning (Payton, not Elijah) is you can load up on WR and not worry about a backup QB until the 10/11 rounds. Watch-he'll get hurt or something in training camp! Two TEs for the King-he said he may get some grief from the Board for this-but better than any receivers left! Fumbleweed 543 Posted June 1, 2007 I hope Clash comes by soon. We've got all the players in place here to get a bunch of picks in.
Da Bomb 0 Posted June 1, 2007 i dont mind the gonzo pick. its a safe bet for around 1000/5-6. no real upside, not a ton of downside other than age continuing to build and ??s at the QB spot, but even then the downside is like 850/4. makes him a startable WR3 in a pinch. but i think shockey is pretty much a wasted pick in a league where TEs are WRs. hes never been a huge TD threat, and he has never really threatened 1000 yards. plus he cant stay healthy and is pretty inconsistent. youre looking at a 700/6 sort of guy and not a ton of upside on either of those numbers, so i just dont see the point there. NAn 39 Posted June 1, 2007 Pulling a Fumble here. There's a couple players I considered here, especially one that I of all people should get, but (1)feel could get comparable production later, (2)like my 'unflashy' but what I feel is solid starting WR corp so went with variation of a stragety here. Look at Young's FF numbers below, good for 10th overall last year despite missing 1 game and not starting 1 other...look particularly to what he did after the bye week. Young, Vince TEN QB 235.26: 1.08, 10.64, X , 12.50, 12.82, 11.44, B , 17.88, 11.92, 18.34, 12.94, 30.86, 22.32, 23.32, 3.80, 27.42, 17.98 He's got a year under his belt, yes, so-so supporting cast, but did well with same group last year, and a coach I think is amongst the best in the league. He'll always have his legs as a threat, any improvement in passing is just a bonus: the new 'other running QB'. Am I banking on all the above...no. But this is a stragety that's worked for me...be amongst last to take a starting qb, but amongst first to get a b/up qb. If I hit on one I'm okay, if they both hit I'm gold. Da Bomb 0 Posted June 1, 2007 i kinda think we're going to get a lot of people ripping on the VY pick. truth is that by my meager projections for him (only 15 pass TDs for instance), he still comes out ranked about on par with leinart, homo, kitna, and hasselbeck because of the huge rushing yards and TDs. the problem is that i think he'll be unbelievably inconsistent, he has no talent on his team, and of course the madden curse. i had considered drafting him at 8.4 just for the heck of it, and to piss off clash, but i wouldve passed. interesting pick though. i have no real concept of who should go where anymore, so i took the top WR from my board who also has the most upside. i have matt jones looking at like 900/7. he was everyones favorite sleeper WR last year and then started the year hurt for 2/3 of hte season. but if you pay careful attention you see that in 5 of his last 6 games he had either a TD or a 100 yard game (both once), and i think hes probably only a handful of receptions short of moving onto nan's breakout list. hes an obvious possible complete bust. but even in last year's complete bust, he had 650/5. and hes a backup on my roster til he makes himself too valuable to sit on my bench. I like Matt too. In reading much of this years draft stuff they kept mentioning that the Jags needed a wideout to stretch the field???? Isn't he a huge speedster?? Anyway, I can't see his production slipping. The one thing this team has proven though is their commitment to run. That is the only reason i can think that he isn't more valuable. Miller_Time_21 0 Posted June 1, 2007 Took Rhoades here. Not sure what to expect, but I have no faith in LaMont Jordan and Bush still has a long road back from that injury. Rhoades may be a decent stop gap this year if they can find someone to block, but that's a BIG IF.
remote controller 143 Posted June 1, 2007 The way the Te's were leaving the building, I couldn't believe Heap was the 2nd to last one to go. There is one other that could have easily slid out the door already too.
Da Bomb 0 Posted June 1, 2007 just dont really see the big point of taking TEs who top out at 750/6 personally.

Rhoades may be a decent stop gap this year if they can find someone to block, but that's a BIG IF. We'll see what Kiffin has to offer, but conventional wisdom is that it wasn't so much the OL players themselves but the scheme (don't kill messenger...just what's been said. personally think it's a bit of both). As per my comments on Jordan pick, it's an IF for Jordan to have role, but will depend on healthy...so rhodes worth shot here.

NAn 39 Posted June 1, 2007 Jones was one of players I considered at, actually, my last 2 picks. Bomb's thinking is solid as far as expectations low-high end, my concern is that high end may not be as much as some think...the ball has really been distributed evenly in Jax so not sure if set up for anyone to get bulk of recs. And as is breakdown was like 50/40/30. Add that they have a solid running game so may don't know if they need to or will ever throw the ball alot.

What affect does Garrard vs. Leftwich have on the pass or run game there? Seems the offense clicked better with Garrard but I haven't researched if one was a far better passer or not. It was evident garrard could move to avoid pressure better.
Da Bomb 0 Posted June 1, 2007 yeah i dont see yards as being much for jones, or any jax receivers. its the TD upside due to his freakish athleticism, could definitely hit double digit TDs. probably wont, but worth the pick just in case.

Seems the offense clicked better with Garrard but I haven't researched if one was a far better passer or not. It was evident garrard could move to avoid pressure better. That's the thing...NEITHER were very impressive throwing the ball. 2900/17 between BOTH of them. Garrard: 0 of 11 times 250+yds, 2 of 11 times 2+tds Lefty: 2 of 6 times 250+yds, 3 of 6 times 2+tds So Lefty may look alot better but he also had 3 of 6 times with 140yds or less. So, with those QBs as your options would you expect a big year from any WR and/or to build your offense around the passing game? Edit to note: not a bad pick at this pt...Jones talent/hopefully no lingering injury this year, has some upside...just why I didn't go with him personally. FantasyKing 4 Posted June 2, 2007 Thanks robb for the phone calls and for making the picks. I know its surprising to take two TEs, but what I wanted here was dependable points, and these 2 are the best WRs on their team in my opinion. Plax is the only competition of those 2 teams and he is a punk scrub. Yes there were many receivers with upside, but just not worth the gamble to me to pick somebody who'll probably end up with barely WR3 stats. I really don't like drafting in a non-TE required league, can we switch it next year? Also guys, I'm gonna be out of town this weekend - seriously doubt I'll be lurking, not sure if the mock continues through the weekend but if I am not around and I am on the clock for a little bit, feel free to make my picks for me. Hope you all enjoy your weekend.

Da Bomb 0 Posted June 2, 2007 i figured rivers would go soon but hes someone i cant get excited about this year even as a backup. i think SD is going to struggle this year with all the changes, and rivers still doesnt have much for receiving options to throw to. i have him at like 3300/21/17 and dont see room for much more. its not bad by any means but just nothing to get excited about. he is about the 20th QB on my board. ill be avoiding pretty much any charger this year who doesnt have the initials LT.
remote controller 143 Posted June 2, 2007 I'm back. Give me a minute. I think Betts is gonna be well worth his draft position here. He was fixin' to be gone anyway! I don't feel quite as high on Rivers this year due to LT's TD explsoion last season. Not a bad pick, I just think that there are many equal Qb's now, available in a round or 2. I considered 2 other wideouts here and 1 TE, then went with Jennings. Good work ethic. Runs great routes. Never let's up, and has a head for the game. He got injured, and kind of hit the rookie wall last year. I see the Pack as a team on the rise due to a much better defense. I feel that Jennings will get more and more redzone oppurtunites. .......................and a Homer Pick!
Da Bomb 0 Posted June 2, 2007 solid pick with jennings. good upside, showed good potential before the injury last year and plays for a team that will certainly have to be passing a lot. he was one of the players i considered at my pick.
