Well, I can certainly run the randomizer using the 10 emails I have and the other 2 would have to trust us? Or we can just wait. Hell, I almost prefer it because it's closest to how all my other leagues (except WCOFF) work.

 

 

As for my senses, I never saw anyone as a challenge to my author-a-tay (pronounced as Cartman would) - I was just tired of getting my nuts busted over every little thing. I'm over it. Let's move on.

 

So verdict: since we are missing one member until tomorrow, and I will have to track down SSB (who I'm sure is in) it seems prudent to just go with Yahoo...unless I have all 12 email addresses before Sunday night. Well, there it is. It's Wednesday night, and neither Steel City nor Rye & Leaf are present. It's sad, but several here agreed that if no response by Wednesday night, the alternates would be let in.

 

My apologies to Rye & Lead and Steel City - hopefully there are no hard feelings. We did our best to accomodate you both but to no avail.

 

On to new business....

 

If I have all 12 emails I can run the randomizer. I think I need RicemanX's addy (unless he sent me one while I was out), and I think I have Little Big Head's already.

 

I'll take a look - maybe I've got everyone's? If not, I know I have 10....I'd say that should be enough?

Ok, I know everyone is excited to know their draft picks, but I am not going to be around much if at all from Thurs through Sat, so in order to accommodate Old Guru (and everyone who wants to know their picks) I am going to run the randomizer now. I have 10/12 emails, and I can designate team names without emails associated. I will simply use their FFT handles of RicemanX & Little Big Head.

 

10 league members (myself included) will receive the email, and I will post the results on the league page. I think that should remove all doubt as to the validity since 9 of you will be able to compare yours against each other's against what's posted on the league page?

Dude - I know Steel has checked in. But he's also not responded since, and that was on the 1st page? 13 days ago???

 

he's been emailed a couple times and knew we were drafting in June. Friday afternoon didn't work for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being that I won't be around. And our new members need a few days notice for the draft like anyone.

 

How about this - if Steel shows up to claim his rightful spot, then one of the alternates is out. For now they're a placeholder. Little Big Head already said he'd give up his team, so I don't see this as an issue. Riceman is definately in, as LBH generously offered that a few posts back. So Steel'd be picking 3rd since that's what LBH drew and he's the last alternate.

 

I think this is fair for everyone - this way the alternates don't have to wait until the very last minute to know if they're in, and if Steel makes it back he's not disappointed (and since both noobs got top 5 picks, I doubt he'll be sad there either)

 

Oh, and I ran the randomizer. Check your email, or look at the league page. You're picking 11th. Sorry.

just checking in....2 things:

1. LBH - please send an email to me at baseballscooter@hotmail.com so I can send you the yahoo invite. I've only been getting a little time here & there, so that would really help. Sweetness may or may not be in. Surprised to see no response from him in email or on here.

 

2. No trading of draft picks. that's a staple of this league. We did vote on this last year. As for this year, while I'd ordinarily honor Ace's request to vote on all things even ones already voted on, there's just not enough time before the draft, and with a live draft it is impossible to do it on the fly with Yahoo. Given those two factors I don't think it is prudent this year. Example: you two work out a deal, one other pair makes a deal and draft day is Sunday. Old Guru's been out of town and will be pulling in 5 mins before the draft - and now trades have ben made and he's had no opportunity to make any? Doesn't seem equitable for all.

Ace, I only have a few moments and the wireless is a bit flakey here, so I will try to be brief:

 

You make a good point, and it is indeed a reasonable sentiment/request.

 

However, that said, it is not equitable regardless of whether the majority votes on it for the very fact that Old Guru has stated that he is gone for the next 3 days and will be arriving just moments before the live draft. Thus he has no opportunity to make deals as others would. Last he knew, there was no trading of draft picks, as that was explained to him with the description of last season's rules. It has to be fair to everyone, and this would exclude at least 1 member. If any member is excluded, then it isn't fair.

 

Besides, it is simply not possible with the Yahoo live draft system to facilitate those trades of picks. the draft order is what it is, so voting on it is kind of a moot point. If the majority voted to include it, we couldn't do it anyway. lol

 

Were it any other way, I would be perfectly willing to put this to the league for vote. Honestly, I would.

 

But given we have 3 days until the draft and some league members will be excluded from having the same opportunity, I am not willing to consider this at this time. If you'd like to call me a dictator for that, so be it - but if it's not 100% fair for everyone then we can't do it. And like I said - we can't even do it if we wanted to because Yahoo won't let us do it.

 

There will be months to make trades after the draft. You said it yourself: if they want to work out some kind of deal for post draft, it's no different. So if it's no different you shouldn't have any issue with it.

 

So thank you for the input - your opinion is appreciated and absolutely respected. However it's neither fair nor feasible for this particular draft. Perhaps next year we'll vote to return to the off-line draft system, and we can take a pulse on the league's feelings about it at that time.

I somehow suspect that most will not want to do so, but sure - that could be voted on. I still think it's unfair to Old Guru because 1. he'll not be here to vote, and 2. even with a majority vote O.G. would not be have time or awareness of such a rule change and would be unfairly excluded from being able to take advantage. As he has a high pick, I suggest that he'd be at a disadvantage to not be able to entertain the same trade offers as others have.

 

For that I would vote no, only because it's still excluding one league member from the opportunities that other would have.

 

Please think about it and discuss before registering any "votes" people. It's important to be FAIR to EVERYONE regardless that you personally want to make such a deal. Ok, back to the meetings. I'll check back later to see the status of WWIII. :sigh:

OK, here's what I propose. If you all want to entertain the idea of changing draft positions, no final call will be made until OG has his say. It's the only fair way to do it.

 

Personally, I think a vote of this nature is highly unorthadox, and I'm fundamentally against it. I will explain why:

 

I believe in a challenging league. I believe that God gives you lemons, you make lemonade. I believe with a random draft, especially in a free league and moreover a highly competitive one, that everyone should draft as the randomizer spewed out. Otherwise why even bother randomizing?

 

I am deeply, deeply against the trading of draft positions. With a tip of the cap to Ace for the suggestion, pre-draft trades is something we can collectively discuss/vote on next year if we opt for a slow draft. But I would be very disappointed if y'all started changing places in this thing. I'd like to see how some of you step up to the challenge of drafting 10th or 9th. I should be trying to weasil out of my spot since 8th may well be the single worst place to draft. But instead I am using it as practice for my $ leagues, and I will take even more pride in a top 4 finish picking from such an unfortunate spot.

 

Obviously, my vote is no.

 

I respect every one of you as you're all passionate about FFB and I certainly don't hold your opinions against you. Each to his own. I'll enjoy the league either way - but I'm actually a little surprised that people want to change draft positions with no incentive (like trades). I also kind of don't see the point. Hell, I'm DYING to see who Clash takes at 4. That's a hell of a decision. I'm disappointed in you for not stepping up to the plate there Clash.
