The Randy Moss era has begun

Recommended Posts

Pats fans used to congratulate themselves on rooting for a bunch of character guys. That used to be one of the things the franchise was known for. Now you guys defend signing one of the biggest ass holes in the league.

Just calling it as I see it.

 he's not the talent he once was. he's not a 90 catch, 1400yd "best in the game" WR anymore.

I don't think any NE homers are trying to make that argument.

again, 65 - 70 catch, 1000yd, 9 - 10TDs would still be All-World compared to what NE has had in the recent

There has been a ton of hype over Randy to NE that isn't justified if everyone is anticipating that sort of season. I know Boston is realistic in his expectations, but many in and out of NE talk as though they got the Randy of five years ago. I don't see it.

and the fact that the team didn't need a name WR because they had a competent bunch of role guys ...

you did watch last year, right? you do know that they were 1 first-down away from the SuperBowl with that "competent bunch of role guys?

So I guess you think that makes the NE fans wrong last year? I guess the fans who felt they'd be OK without Branch and a stud-WR were just crazy talkers.

If you're hearing that, then I don't doubt you.

But I don't feel that way. None of my friends and neighbors here in NE feel that way.

We all think we're getting a down-graded Randy Moss, but even in that down-graded state, he may still be better than the "smurfs" who've never tallied 1000 yds in NE.

I would rank them as follows:

1. Lucifer

2. Rosie O'Donnell

3. Bill Belicheck

4. Sadaam Hussein

5. David Hasselhoff

I know the Pats WRs were subpar last year. Just saying, Patriots fans seem to say whatever is popular at the time. Back when they were winning Super Bowls, the Pats fans on this board loved to talk about how they proved you don't need a top flight WR corps to win and it's all about character guys. Now that they aren't the best team in the league anymore, loading the team with name WRs - one of whom is known as a loafing jackass - was a terrific move.

Really the bottom line is that Pats fans don't know much about football, because 90% of them have only been watching for six years.

No they congratulate themselves for bringing in a guy like Dillon and watching him keep his nose clean for three years.

You're totally missing the point. We understand Moss has a ton of luggage. No one disputes that. Facts are facts. Yet by having a team of high character guys like Brady, Harrison, Bruschi, Wilfork, Warren, Seymour, Colvin, Thomas, Welker, Izzo, Koppen, Vrabel, Light, etc. they can roll the dice on a player like Moss because there's a good chance he'll conform to what these type of player feel is important...which is working hard, staying out of trouble and trying to win championships. If he doesn't than he's gone and all it cost was a fourth round pick. This experiment did not cost a #1 pick or a big time signing bonus. The risk is minimal and the potential upside is tremendous.

yeah, it's pretty obvious that you're "just sayin'", that you're "just calling it as you see it".

It's going to be hilarious watching Moss play well in NE after seeing Owens single handedly destroy your Eagles.

Your hate is entertainment for us. The more venom you spew, the more you're just NE's biatch.

You keep throwing Dillon out there ... why? The worst thing I remember him doing was grousing to the media about the Bengals. Frankly, if I were putting up Pro Bowl numbers for teams that won 4-6 games per year and showed no commitment to winning, I'd be pretty discontented, too. And Dillon's biggest media outburst was in 2006 as a Pat. Maybe New England's locker room was a bad influence on him?

I'm not saying it was a bad move or that the Pats can't keep Moss under control, although I'll have to see it to believe it. I'm saying that Pats fans a few years ago would never have supported a signing like Moss but now they've changed their tune. I guess that's what a few seasons without a Super Bowl does.

BTW, anybody know what happened to drobeski? I haven't seen him in two years.

 many are.

I don't hate Manning though.

I (and NE) was Manning's biatch in last year's playoffs. He ran our asses all over the field in that second half. He controlled the pace of that game and had the NE defense sucking wind. I have no problem admitting that.

Yeah, that's what we all did. I've heard rumors of players named Nance, Grogan and Tippett but never really knew who they played for.

That's because you are one of maybe three FFTers who actually posted here pre-2001. And your analysis of other football teams is typically rock solid, but you are 100% homer when it comes to the Patriots.

things that must not have happened because MDC doesn't know about them:

1. Corey Dillon was arrested for beating up his wife (ex-wife) before arriving in NE.

2. Bill Parcells coached the NE Patriots.

3. Drew Bledsoe was the Patriots QB in the mid to late 90's.

4. Curtis Martin was the Patriots RB in the mid to late 90's.

5. NE was in in SuperBowl in the 90's

6. NE was in a SuperBowl in the 80's

#5 and #6 alone would make them the greatest sports story in Philly history.

You would know that if you followed football back then. :D

Oh, I am fully aware of how ignorant MonkeyDeathCar was back in 1997.

I'm just reminiscing at how funny it was that you ran away, deleted a few posts and your account, but couldn't resist re-registering in '04 once the Eagles were the favorites in the NFC.

Your plan to rejoin the board as a drobeski front runner went terribly awry so now your only enjoyment is to troll the NE Patriots threads. It's killing you that you were ALMOST the Prom Queen.

I agree with Boston that if Moss resembles what he used to be with the Vikings, the Pats will have a go to reciever. We wont really know anything until we see him in pre season. So far though all the reports coming out of Patriot land sound positive. projections if he is as good as I believe....

The locker room is key, I think. They did a brilliant job placing Randy's locker right in between Brady and Testaverde. These are guys that Moss can respect and, especially in Vinny's case, he really has to listen to.

On the field, so long as he's healthy, I think Moss obviously contributes, and makes matchup problems for opponents. But I still am wrestling with the idea of him as a stud for them in 2007. Brady will mix it around to keep opponents guessing, unless Randy owns his opponent completely - and I think he's beyond that stage of his career.

i personally think you guys look into this stuff too deep lol......moss hasnt had a good season in awhile, plus injuries, now he was on bad teams which could be a factor.......he is now on a good team, so he can get a little bump up.........but thats pretty much all you can go on

let someone else take him early......i see him nothing more than a #3 wr..........if you have to look into a player this deep just to guess how good he will do, is he really worth taking anyway?

No offense but I'm glad there are people like you who have this opinion of Moss. Hopefully my league mates will think the same way, I would be thrilled to have Moss as a WR3.

Seriously though, the whole idea of this discussion is to try to gauge who will be a value heading into this season. I think everyone agrees it's not a wise idea to reach on him in drafts but it'd also be a mistake to dismiss him as a fantasy factor.

Did you watch the Charger vs. NE play-off game? The Chargers shot themselves in the foot about 8 times and the Pats BARELY won that game. The Pats are not as good as all the hype says they are!

Or maybe the Chargers are overhyped. They were the team with the super fantastic W-L record and everybody's favorite to win the Super Bowl...yet they couldn't muster one win on their home turf against an "overrated" Patriots team. By your logic that makes the Chargers even more overrated.

BTW, Adalius Thomas, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth, and Randy Moss weren't on last year's team, so I hope you're not foolish enough to base your "overrated" opinion on this year's squad.

Randy Moss will be in the top 5 fantasy receivers.

Ah Ah AH AH AHAH AHHA HAHA HAHA hA.

NO way not even top 15 . The guy is finished. Stallworth will finish with more catches , more yards and more TD's.

this is stupid, the guy can run routes and has great hands, he catches anything thrown his way, his body control going up for balls and coming down with them is tops in the league. You don't have the stats he has by being A poor route runner. If moss is healthy all year which he should be, you actually think he isnt going to put up stats with the talent the pats have. :pointstosky:

Ummm, yes, you can put up stats and still be a poor route runner. It has been widely noted by coaches that he was not a good route runner.

COREY DILLON:

Arrested for: DUI, theft (twice), intent to sell cocaine, obstructing a police officer (thrice), resisting arrest (twice), assault (five times), criminal trespass, malicious mischief (twice), reckless endangerment (twice)

Since going pro Corey’s been busted for DUI, driving with a suspended license, and assaulting his wife. Dillon was sentenced to rigorous “community service”—working with area youngsters on football skills and refereeing intramural basketball games.

Randy is a wild-card. But he's almost certain to be as effective as the guys who were on the field last year, and he might well still be capable of big things for this team. He was signed at a very nice price and the Patriots have little exposure if it becomes necessary to kick him to the curb due to character issues or whatever else might arise. Maybe he is washed up and the change of scenery won't mean a thing; I'll still thing they were right to roll the dice. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Good effort MDC, but Pats fans have no reason to be anything but happy with this signing.
