**Round Six Draft Commentary**

Recommended Posts

Edited to remove undrafted names.

Just looking over the FFToday projections more thoroughly to go along with this draft, Calvin Johnson is all the way down in tier 6 and he is behind some real scrubs and unprovens. He is an entire tier behind a handful of scrubs.

I know the kid still has to prove himself, but I don't think you can put him in the same category as these scrubs even without playing 1 NFL game.

Just want to go on record that I'm not sure of Ted's priority for this pick. He sent me a list for his 5.12/6.01 picks where the first players listed were all RBs, and J.Jones was the first available. Then after the RBs there were 3 WRs listed, where the only one available was C.Johnson. The thing I'm unsure of is that there were other RBs on his list (listed after Jones but before Johnson) so I'm not sure if Ted wanted me to go RB/RB or RB/WR. I assumed RB/WR since RB/RB would have given him 4 RBs on his roster at this point.

I don't think this is a big deal but like I said, I just wanted to let everyone know.

Sounds like you made the right move to me - probably what he wanted.

Calvin Johnson was taken in about the same spot in the Jetdoc mock, but I still think it's a reach. Rookie WRs just tend to not produce. True, Johnson may be a freak, but I can't justify spending a 5th/6th on someone who has about a 95% chance of being medicore at best.

This came down to 5 players who catch the ball  , but this was the better of the two Wr's in my opinion  I took the same player in the oft mentioned Jetdoc Mock, over the same other Wr. Chambers is a freak of nature, when it comes to his vitals, and has been pulling a Moulds act, as he's kinda one year on one year off. He gave me the best option here for my#2 Wr.

I like the pick remote. With the addition of Trent Green, I fully expect Chambers to take a step back towards his '05 production. It just might take a few games into the season for he and Green to start to click.

I went back and forth on Moss or Chambers. In the end I went Moss because he's such a gamebreaker and because I still think the QB situation is a mess in Miami even with Green onboard.

i have his picks but a lot determines on what falls in the next 12 picks. im out now until about 1 central, so i think i should be fine and will check in then. someone let me know if i should be more timely and get someone a list now to cover.

Just sent Bomb an email letting him know Lou's pick is up but it looks like he won't be around for another hour or so :dunno:

I understand your logic but feel there is a better receiving option in Washington. Moss normally preceeds Chambers in the drafts. I just feel he is a hit or miss option, kinda 1 dimensional, like a few others now available. Believe me, there is plenty of second guessing when it comes to Chambers, and I'm well aware of that. :dunno:

I know we're not supposed to consider the No-Hassle format for our picks, but guys like Peterson and Santana Moss have more value in this format as misses can be covered by someone else and the "hits" really boost your team. In other words, upside picks can reap great rewards.

This is the first I've heard this. You're not supposed to take the league into consideration? Hmmm.

I know, and Chambers, like Moss, is prone to HUGE games. Just another discussion piece.

i had a very tough time with this pick for lou. he left me lists by position and asked me to use my best judgment. edwards is his top WR, and theres another player id like to grab that i think lou might be able to get with his 7 maybe. we'll see. i really like braylon edwards, and he was the safest pick in the end. he rounds out lou's starting lineup beautifully and gives flexibility with the rest of the picks. the other pick may have been a bigger slam dunk but might have left lou a little uncomfortable dealing with the aftermath, so i went with his safest option here i think. really like braylon as a great WR3 or even a solid WR2 if you need to wait til the 6th to get one. he is actually developing into a very consistent performer.

It was the correct pick and he'll be pleased. I had you pegged for him here.

Edwards was a great pick. I considered him a few picks ago, but had decided that Winslow's value was greater for his position. Nice job.

I'm torn between which one of these two gets the most redzone activity. Winslow, most likely, but I just don't know.

Mike has always preferred it be a more standard draft not taking best-ball formats into consideration more than necessary.

I'm going to be at a funeral for the next hour and a half. It's a long way from my pick, but I just thought I should let you all know. I'll check in when I get back.

Really like the Edwards pick. He made big strides last season and I feel he'll continue to elevate his game this season depending on the QB situation.

Guys, I'll be stepping out for about 20-30 minutes. I will be getting Clash's next pick via text, but I shouldn't be much off of it.

6.12 RB Chester Taylor, MIN

Felt I had to go RB here with only 2 on my roster at this point. It was between Chester and a few others, all who are or will eventually split time in an RBBC. As I mentioned before, I do think AP/Chester will have similar roles to Bush/McAllister last season. With AP getting more touches as the year goes on. But for now Chester will still get 2/3 of the touches at least to start the season.

thoughts on some of the 6th round picks...

calvin johnson - sorry, just seems too high. too many other valuable WRs still there who have a much better chance of producing this season, though best ball does give him better value imo.

winslow - back and forth here. im not a huge fan so it strikes me as too high, but you had to take him there as he probably doesnt get back to your next pick. i just dont know that i see the TDs to put him among the elite TEs, and im tired of buying into it and waiting. i'll let him blow up for someone else, if he ever does.

hasselbeck - dont like the pick. a round too early for him imo. i think 3 of the 5 teams picking before rlld picked again already had a qb, so they wouldnt have been taking another one yet, and hasselbeck was hardly a lock to be the next one taken. he sorta maxes out as an above average fantasy qb, no real urgent rush to secure him imo. only talking about a 3400/22 guy here. couldve easily gotten those same numbers in the next round, and probably from hasselbeck still imo.

f taylor - like the pick. great rb3 for this year that some folks seem to be sleeping on, the man had 1300 yards last year.

tony homo - solid pick, but didnt make sense to take a qb before jscott. minor detail, but coudlve cost you a person you wanted maybe. homo is probably my next qb off the board, him and one other, and it was probably a good move to get one now before the late 8th.

What can I say, I am liking my team. Bomb , I appreciate the effort put forth on my behalf. The plan to go RB,WR,RB for the picks went pretty much as planned. This added much needed balance to my team.

Barber/Dunn as potential 2/3 tailbacks paired with Gore was a pretty sweet outcome after going wideout in the 2nd and 3rd. I did have Lynch followed by Ahman a whisker ahead of Barber because of their starter status. In the end, I think all three will be close. Edwards as a third wideout with a ton of upside is a perfect complimet to Smith and Williams. I think the draft boards proved to be solid for these three rounds. I am very happy with all three and how they fit the rest of my team through seven.

Shockey would have been a nice luxury to be sure, and I have high expectations for him this year, but in the end, running back was the proper pick here. Howver I would not have found fault had the pick turned out to Jeremy. Just would have made the next couple of rounds harder. Thanks again Bomb.

Like I said before, anytime you can get a player who scored 16 TDs the year before in the fifth round, life is good.
