workout question

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to build up my pecs, but I only get strong and it seems that there is no growth. I'm worried that my shoulders and triceps are overpowering the exercise since the sports I play automatically develop those areas. I do flat, incline, and decline presses with the bar. Anyone ever experience that? What did you do? Is it as simple as going over to dumbells?

Pec flys and dips should help. Also, widen the grip for your bench exercises, that will help target the chest more than the tris.

Switching to dumbells is good, but that won't neccessarily increase pectoral strength. It will force you to use more of your "stabilizing muscles" to balance the weights.

PS: whaddya bench?

I never max out, but I usually rep 185 8 times. I could probably eke out a couple more with a spotter though. My goal is 225 14 times.

are you eating anything?

I think that is another problem. I don't think I'm eating enough. On weekends I don't really have a routine and sometimes I'll go all day without eating anything.

Also!@!@@ I forgot that I do cable cross as well.

You remembered!

Also I don't see why dips help the chest. It seems to target the triceps more. Is the thinking that you wear out the triceps, so the pecs will do the work?

focus on doing incline dumbbell presses and make sure you double your weight in grams of protein daily.

Pushups.

Body weight is an undervalued assett in strength conditioning.

Dips will help, they do target tris a lot but concentrate on using your pecs too.

Back to pushups. Do staggered pushups one hand in front of the other. Another is balance one hand on a medicine ball, then switch. If I felt like downloading pictures it would help me explain. Vary your hand placement. Also go down halfway, hold for a 2 count, go all the way down, hold for a 2 count and push back up. This will also increase your bench and apperance. Good luck.
