***Official Week #2 College Football***

Recommended Posts

Let's get it done again this week fellas!

NFL

9-8 (-.5 units)

NCAA

16-9-1 (+11.25 units)

I was a little worried that in week #1 with alot of people leaning on some of my plays that I wouldn't come through. But indeed I did even though some fools didn't listen to my Oregon State pick!!! Or Colorado!!! I am glad you stayed away from my Notre Dame pick and I apologize for Va Tech, they have one of the worst quarterbacks in all of college football I believe. Anyway congrats to everyone that put together a great week. Let's do it again. Phillybear was a little off last week (see UL-Monroe) but we all know he will be there at some point and we can ride that hot hand! Nearly 7000 hits on the week #1 post. We should be charging for this shiot!

Preface this by stating that Ditka's plays are my plays, but some lines that stick out to me.

Colorado State +14

LSU -12

Virginia -16 1/2 (didn't UConn just destroy Duke at Duke???)

Oregon +8 (mobile QB's kill Michigan)

Over on the Michigan/Oregon game (Michigan should bounce back and score some points, but Oregon will score a bunch due to the fact they have an athletic QB).

UCLA -6 1/2

UNLV +25 (unless someone tells me UNLV is absolutely awful...I expect Wisconsin to struggle on the road)

Anybody have anything on the O.st and Cinci game??? Looks like O.St is the play with their being a new coach in Cinci. O.st lost their starting QB. They do return their tailback who has had 2 1000 yard seasons back to back. Also looks like the under will be a decent play. Cincis D was in the top 30 against the run last year. Cinci also has a very marginal QB at best.

Couple of plays that I like at first glance:

Bama -2.5

UCLA -6.5

California -13.5

Boston College -13.5

Oregon State -3.5

Oklahoma -10.5

L'Ville -38.5

Rutgers -16

Some of these lines really jump out at me.

Oklahoma just looks really, really fast and facing Miami at home will motivate them. California also looks really fast and CSU is a program that is heading in the wrong direction. Bama looks really good at -2.5 to -3.5. We will see. Hit a good parlay last week looking to re-load this week. Rough week for some of the mainstays on the board but I am sure they will bounce back big time. I love checking this thread out to see where the gurus are leaning.

Good luck to all!

noticed for your iowa syracuse game you had douglas and bowman as questionable

well they are suspended indefinately for stealing credit cards... i'm guessing at least the whole season if not kicked out of the university... (or they will probably transfer to a Div II school from what i've heard) so we will miss our best WR (douglas) all season. And just from watching the first game against N. Ill... brodell cannot hang on to the ball... nervous about WR play this year

so just a little insight... the spread is hovering around -21 it looks like...

we rarely blow people out, minus 41-7 vs montana last year. and now we're a little shaky on the pass game. i'd take syracuse with the +21. i don't think they can score over 10 pts on our D... but i don't feel at this point in the season we can put up 31 pts...

i called ECU +17.5 last week, then it even went to 27.5 by game time...

i like them this week -4.5 at home against Butch Davis' Tarholes... write it down, lock it up.

you have QB Kass reported as probable. He wasn't injured last week, he was suspended 1 game by ECU for getting a DUI. This week he's healthy, but Pinkney has been named the starter due to his strong performance last week against VT. Kass is at the bottom of the depth chart and has to work his way back up.

Alright!!! I got my can't miss SEC game of the week last week - Oaklahoma St vs Georgia -6.5. And sure enough, there's another great one on the boards for this week!

South Florida at Auburn -7

One of the best teams in the SEC at home against a team that switched over to D1A less than 10 years ago. If Auburn can't beat these losers by at least a TD (especially AT HOME) they should fire the coach.

A dejected Michigan team will go out and crap the bed against Oregon, another team with speed at the skill positions and a mobile QB, neither of which the slow footed Michigan defense can handle.

Oergon wins this game by 10 and sends Michigan to 0-2.

You heard it here 1st. :bench:

By the way, I am flying out to vegas on Friday morning, and fully plan on betting $100 semolians on this. I suspect Michigan might even be favored in this game, but I need to check. I pray for Oregon plus points.

NFL

9-8 (-.5 units)

NCAA

16-9-1 (+11.25 units)

Fellas, I am going to be traveling this week for work so my internet access will be limited. I am putting in 7 plays for this weekend and risking 2 units each since I won't be around to see any line moves or public trends. These are just my early leans so I am putting them in and going with them.

2 units each

Boise State -2.5

I like this game alot and think that UW beating Syracuse is not going to be enough to get by the Broncos this week. This is my favorite game on the board. That being said I lost my favorite game last week. Boise State is usually safe money though.

Kentucky -13

Kent State suprised me a bit last week but I think Kentucky is a sleeper to really make some waves this season so I am going withe them in this spot.

Cal -14

Colorado State and Colorado was the Super Bowl in that state and the loser will still have some let down this week. Cal is just on another level and should walk this game. Plus CSU does nothing special. Straight running, predictable. Won't be enough.

Auburn -7

South Florida and their young QB Grothe are a favorite of mine. But I think they have some cinderella in this line. Auburn is still Auburn and I like the value of the 7 in this line.

Clemson -24

UL Monroe sucks, right Philly? Clemson I think will put one on in this game. They are two programs just on a totally different level. Would 44-10 surprise anyone in this game? Not me.

Ole Miss +6

Missourri didn't impress me so I am going with the home dog. Missou fumbled and let a pathetic Illinois team play with them. So I just don't understand this line. Oh well.

Oklahoma -10.5

If this Sooner team is for real then this is where they send a wake up call by kicking the snot out of Miami (who I don't think too highly of).

I know I have 6 favorites this week and I am staying away from Joe Pah. But I just took the games I singled out as the ones I wanted to jump on now. So I did.

Good luck fellas! Hoping to go 4-3 make a little cash while on the road here!!!

I like O.St under Thursday. OST is a running team whihc is returning their leading rusher who had amassed over 1000 yards in 2 straight years. They lost their starting Qb. Cinci Is returning quite a few players on D and they also have a terrible QB. TD/INT 9/13 last year. Should be lower than 44

This is a special pick for Bouve. Good seeing him posting again.

@ Boston College (-13.5) vs North Carolina State

Background:

Former BC Eagle Coach Tom OBrien leaves BC for in-conf. rival NC St. There is VERY VERY bad blood given recent media statements from OBrien. New coach Jagodzinski was a former BC offensive Coodinator under coach Tom Coughlin. BC had one of the best offenses in the Big East, got to a #10 Ranking nationally, and beat undefeated #1 Notre Dame with 3 weeks left in the season, spoiling their national champion run.

Jags has promised a more explosive offensive scheme, highlighting All-ACC QB Matt Ryans skillset. Jags/Ryan delivered in Game 1, a tough matchup against last years ACC champion: Wake Forest. Ryan passed for 300+ yards and 5 tds, dismantling a very decent defensive squad that has far more talent than NC St.

Tom Obrien is probably one of the most conservative, and passive coaches in the entire nation. Tight ball control, no turnovers, and hope the defense keeps them in the game. Unfortunately, NC St doesn't have the talent BC has on the defensive side of the ball, which puts him in a very tough predicament.

BC is just far more talented on both sides of the ball, and I promise you, Jags WILL run up the score. BC will not stop scoring until the 4th quarter hits 0:00.

Jags desperately wants to make a big big statement about the Boston College Football program, and he has his chance.

Final Score Prediction BC 42 NC St. 10.

Thurs

Oregon St./cinci under 45.5 2 units.

I like O.St under Thursday. OST is a running team whihc is returning their leading rusher who had amassed over 1000 yards in 2 straight years. They lost their starting Qb. Cinci Is returning 8 players on D. The D ranked 24th against the run last year. They also have a terrible QB. TD/INT 9/13 last year. Should be lower than 44. Cinci has new coaching staff in place. He coached the lsat two games last year, so i still see him as new.

Holding off on the 2nd game no idea yet if i like anything on it.

CFL YTD: 23-15; +18.6 units

Overall NCAA YTD: 15-15; -10.1 units

Subset: NCAA 2 unit plays or higher: 10-11; -10.7 units

Subset: 1st or 2nd H plays: 3-1; +3.0 units

Thursday

Cincinnati (+3.5) for 3 units

I am absolutely baffled by this line, as the wrong team is favored. The linesmaker installed Oregon St as a 1 pt fav, and the betting public took this line to 3.5, with 74% of the action thus far. Bizarre to say the least.

Oregon St beat Utah last week, but were lucky to do so by a 24-7 margin. Utah jumped out 7-0, and during the later stages of the 1st H, Utah star QB Brian Johnson separated his shoulder, and did not return. Utah was unable to generate any thing on offense the rest of the game. Oregon St was able to take advantage of the Utah defense being on the field for so long, they eventually wore them down, and ran over them in the second half, eventually winning 24-7, but outgaining their opponent 370 to 196. Utah was going toe to toe with them before the injury. While Oregon St ran for 241 last week, they were a miserable for 11-28 for 129 last week in passing. There defense played decently enough, and much better when they had to face a wounded offense. Obviously, I am not a believer in Oregon St at all this year, and will fade them again this week.

Last week Cincinnati routed SE Missouri St 59-3. They put up 615 yards of offense, gave up 262 on defense, and basically posted their 3rd highest yardage total in school history. Not a great opponent, but ask Michigan about opponents. While Cincinnati was an excellent defensive team last year, and sprung some upsets, namely vs bowl teams Rutgers and So Florida, and beat Western Mich in a bowl game, they were extremely inconsistent offensively. Well, not anymore. Central Michigan's head coach from last year moved over to Cincinnati this year, along with a chunk of his staff. Maybe he is a magic maker offensively, as Cincinnati turned into a jugernaut overnight, while the high powered Centr Mich offense fizzled to an output of 7 pts this past week. Even better was the addition of QB Matt Mauk. You may remember him as the starting QB at Wake Forest the last few years. The problem was he would get hurt, and Riley Skinner would come in. Both were pretty good QBs, but Mauk always won the starting job. Now, he is the QB at Cincinnati. Last week, he went 18-27 for 244 and 2 TDs. Not too shabby. Cincinnati piled up over 300 yards each in passing and running last week, and look like they are so much ahead of Oregon St offensively. Defensively, it's a wash.

I'll gladly take the points in a game I expect Cincinnati to win. Good luck to all.

I agree with you Phillybear 100%. The only thing scaring me is the fact Ditka liked Oregon State as a team this year as stated prior by him prior to last week. Outside of that, I would easily take the points at home. Brian Kelly, Cinci's new coach, is good.

Don't forget that I'm off to a bad start this year. I guess we will see what happens.

Thursday

Cincinnati (+3.5) for 3 units WINNER

Middle Tenn St (+40) for 3 units WINNER

I gave the writeup for Cinc a couple of posts ago. Louisville is seeing 90% of the action

Middle Tenn St lost 44-17 to Louisville last year, and covered a generous spread. I remember this game quite well, as I bet Midd Tenn St for 2 units, and was happy to cash it. What has changed since then? Well, quite a bit. Louisville lost their guru of a coach in Bobby Petrino to the Atlanta Falcons. And that is huge. Granted, Louisville beat up on horrible Murray St last week. But they lost their offensive head coach, and best RB (Michael Bush) to the NFL. And it will take a few weeks for the new coaching staff to really have this offense humming. Midd Tenn St did not look good last week losing to Fla Atlantic 27-14, but you have to consider that they turned it over 4 times, and only allowed 2-12 on 3rd downs, so the final score is a bit misleading. Still, when you are talking about laying 40 points on a decent Sun Belt team, it won't be as easy as beating up on a DivI-AA team like Murray St. Midd Tenn St has a much better quality roster. I'll take a shot on the points, as both teams will be worse than the prior year, except that I am getting almost 2 extra TDs on the spread from last year. Remember, Midd Tenn St finished in a tie for the Sun Belt conference title last year, so they are not that bad of a team. And Louisville only returns 4 starter on defense, so they ae susceptible to giving up points. I'll take all those points.

Good luck to all.

Not a fan of Michigan, but I think they respond to last week's loss with a W. in the big house.

If they Lose. It will set the program back 4 years at least.

No way.

That is what I'm wrestling with this week. Play Oregon or pass. I would have definitely played Oregon before last week's results.

Fock. I miss the days when my opinions meant something. I hope both games hit tomorrow, so that I can recapture that phenomenon. Until I do that, I suck.

Gobbledog, you have to consider that the So Flor program is growing by leaps and bounds. They are an annual bowl contender, and they have made it at least the last two years. They were a top notch Div 1-AA program, then they got invited into the Big East, and they keep recruiting from Florida. They will be a force to be reconked with, especially as long as Grothe is their QB. He is awesome.

Yeah, I like So Flor this week.

Yeah, I like So Flor this week.

Living in Orlando, I'm very familiar with South Florida's surprising success over the past few years. But this is the SEC!?!?! Auburn has more talent than S FL could ever dream of having. I think the main reason this spread is so low is because Auburn's offense struggled so much last week. But this seems like one of those warm-up type games for Auburn. At home against an un-ranked team. I hear ya though... S FL has been known to upset some big teams and this isn't a lock or a "bet the farm" type game.

I gotta admit, you do a much better job of breaking down the games than I do. Like a lot of people I tend to just look at the team's stature more than the actual stats and current player situations. Like they say - ignorance is bliss.... at least when I win.

When I don't win, ignorance is just ignorance. :music_guitarred:

Don't sweat it. Bet what you are comfortable with, and let the rest of the chips fall where they lay.

Also, you were all over Georgia in a game I passed on. You beat me to that curve.
