schaef2k 0 Posted November 19, 2007 Did he lie to the grand jury? Yes Do I care? No Do I think he should go to prison for it? Absolutely NOT So you think it’s acceptable to perjure yourself before a grand jury? The entire point of perjury laws are to make the penalty so severe that people won’t lie before a grand jury. He should have told the truth. I have no respect for liars or people who think they don’t have to obey the law because they are rich and famous. I hope they make an example of him, give him a few years.

I have no respect for liars or people who think they don’t have to obey the law because they are rich and famous. I hope they make an example of him, give him a few years. Bonds couldn't tell the truth because he wanted to keep up teh charade of being a great home run hitter. He only started roiding heavily because he couldn't stand to see the accolades that McGwire and Sosa were getting because of teh juice. So, the 30-30 guy with speed, who was already considered one of teh best all around players, decided to transform himself chemically. Part of cheating is also lying about it. It all falls into the category of 'dishonest'. So, of course he should go to jail. Not like a murderer should, but not for a month, either. I'd say two years should let teh public know that lying to a grand jury will not be penalized lightly.

schaef2k 0 Posted November 19, 2007 You really think Barry Bonds should go to jail for TWO YEARS for this? For perjury most defiantly. The entire point to perjury laws is to make the punishment so severe nobody would lie to the grand jury. Well Bonds did. He deservers to pay the price. If you or I lie to a grad jury, we go away for years. Bonds should get the exact same thing you or I would get.

NewbieJr 541 Posted November 19, 2007 You really think Barry Bonds should go to jail for TWO YEARS for this? Unless he comes out and publicly admits about what a fraud he is and apologizes for having the audacity to act pissy everytime someone dared ask him about steroids, absolutely I think he needs to be put away for two years. He not only was a cheating, lying, scumbag, but he had the nerve to act like the public was the ones doing something wrong for calling him on it.

People who don't take perjury seriously enough are rampant in society - the whole point is to make sure our legal system isn't a joke. (Too late, I know). My point is I don't think he should have had to testify. Why is it just Barry Bonds? Half the players in MLB have used steroids. I'm not a Bonds fan but I don't think he should be in trouble for using steroids. Should he have lied to the grand jury? probably not, but I dont think this is an issue that he should be going to prison for.

He shouldn't have to go to jail for steroids, what he puts in his body is his business (MLB may disagree though). But when you get called in front of a grand jury you had better be telling the truth or be willing to pay the consequences. Bonds decided to to take his chances and it looks like it's going to bite him in the ass. The man has the best lawyers money can buy advising him, they gambled. Now he has to pay up. As to why just Berry Bonds? I don't know but that's who they decided to call before the gran jury.

KSB2424 3,174 Posted November 20, 2007 Wasn't Raffy, McGwire, and Sosa sworn in before the congressional hearing? Why do they get a free pass? I love this country. Here is a place where OJ was playing golf every day. Tank Johnson, Leanord Little and Ray Lewis are playing football in the NFL. Pac Man Jones is partying it up and will be playing next year. However Michael Vick and Barry Bonds will serve a combined 7 years in prison for dog fighting and lying in court about using steroids. We sure have our priorities in order around here. KSB2424 3,174 Posted November 20, 2007 That's pretty easy to answer. People hate Barry Bonds. People hate cruelty to animals. Did I miss anything? Oh I understand why, I just think it is ridiculous. I hate when people get killed a little more. Joe Public gets so wrapped up in media hype and the commotion of it all they rarely can think for themselves. Is it not obvious that Selig and MLB has been after Bonds the whole time to defelct the blame off of themselves. To actually get a FEDERAL investigation involving him. BALCO was a supplier of thousands of people, yet they single out a baseball player. Joe Public sentiments: I love dogs so Michael Vick should go away for life! Barry Bonds is an a-hole I hope he rots in prison! Dayum, my team needs DB and DL help, I sure hope we sign Tank Johnson and PacMan in the offseason.

I agree with you. Raffy, McGwire and Sosa are all liars and gulity of perjury. I don’t know why they’re not being charged, maybe the feds can't prove the case against those guys. People like OJ and Ray Lewis should be in jail also. I don’t know what to tell you. Bonds did lie to a grand jury knowing that if he was caught he’d face years in prison. He lied anyway. I don’t have a problem with sending Bonds to jail for a few years. He knew what could happen if he lied. If you or I lie to a grand jury

He knew what could happen if he lied. If you or I lie to a grand jury The reality is that people lie to grand juries all the time. People will do anything to save their butt. It's human nature. Generally, the reason you are testifying before a grand jury is a whole lot worse than perjury. I'll take my chances with perjury. Like I said earlier...I'm not a Bonds fan but I do think he has been singled out to take the fall on this steroid issue. There are many, many players that have used steroids, it's a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.

KSB2424 3,174 Posted November 20, 2007 Rafael Palmeiro vehemently denied using steroids to congress. He soon after tested positive and was suspended from MLB. Today Raffy is living in Miami with his model girlfriend and enjoys golf, laying by his pool, and long walks on the beach. Bonds may be in prison. Ain't life grande? Barry Bonds is the witch in this hunt. mayhem39 3 Posted November 20, 2007 Correct me if I'm mistaken, please. Bonds lied to a federal grand jury while under oath. McGwire, Palmiero, et all, lied to Congress while not under oath? Have you ever thought about the term "under oath"? Who cares if you hold up your right hand and swear...it's all BS. So its ok to lie as long as you aren't "sworn in"? Thats a load of crap. This has been a witchunt from day one. Leave the guy alone. There are certainly bigger problems that need to be dealt with in baseball.

However Michael Vick and Barry Bonds will serve a combined 7 years in prison for dog fighting and lying in court about using steroids. We sure have our priorities in order around here. Let's take those as you mentioned them. I think we've addressed the difference between NOT being under oath in Congress and testifying under oath to a grand jury. OJ should be in jail, but he was tried before a jury of his peers, according to our system, and declared not guilty. Tank Johnson was released from Chicago, but DUI isn't punished like perjury is. Ray Lewis was probably guilty, but wasn't convicted of anything, if I remember right. Pac Man Jones didn't commit perjury, did he? And he was suspended for a year, after all. Finally, Vick and Bonds combined won't sniff jail for 2 years, let alone 7. Get real. I wonder why they didn't run a FOUR year investigation in the matter like they did Bonds? I bet they could have found something. But Raffy wasn't the coup de grace. Barry Bonds is the witch in this hunt. For focks sake, I bet if the federal government spent millions of dollars on a FOUR year investigaion on any of the people here posting today, they could dig up something. What a farce. I hear your point. The problem is not what's happening to Barry, it's that more sports figures aren't getting punished appropriately, in my opinion.
