kilroy69 1,251 Posted January 11, 2008 2%??? I always figured it was near 10%. Same here. If thats the fact he saves himself what? 12-13 mil that he can put to his own use. Good for him. Its not like someone who makes 100 mil is going to be broke anytime soon but why give 12 mil to someone for something you can do yourself.

Me_2006 14 Posted January 11, 2008 Unpossible. the NHL isn't making any money More guys like Ovechkin and Crosby will probably change that though. They're fun to watch.
BMoney 0 Posted January 11, 2008 anna chakvetadze just called..she says OV, lock your doors..the russian mafia will take their 10% if you dont..... hes worth every penny by the way...too bad the rest of the caps franchise continues to be in quicksand... TommyGavin 790 Posted January 11, 2008 and they said Rick DiPietro had a stupid contract (15 years 67 mil) HES A BARGAIN
TimmySmith 2,782 Posted January 11, 2008 too bad the rest of the caps franchise continues to be in quicksand...9-3-3 recently, not bad. Still, I don't understand where this type of money comes from. Nobody gives a ratsass about them in DC. Plus Ted Leonsis was one of the owners at the forefront of the lockout, now he does this. I would have to bet that the contract is ridiculously backloaded. Probably pays 50 million for the 2019-2020 season.
edjr 6,602 Posted January 11, 2008 and they said Rick DiPietro had a stupid contract (15 years 67 mil) HES A BARGAIN Guaranteed? let's see about that in 5 years when he's HALF way through

davebg 0 Posted January 11, 2008 Unpossible. the NHL isn't making any money Actually, the NHL is making money, but it's all smoke and mirrors. NHL revenue is up, largely due to the value of the Canadian vs US dollar and increased ticket prices. However, there is virtually zero growth in the NHL right now. GettnHuge 2 Posted January 11, 2008 Ovie is 22yrs old and will be one of the best players over the next decade. Lidstrom was making 10m per year before the strike, I think 7.5 after with the across the board cuts. So this isn't so crazy. The last thing they want is to lose this guy to a more attractive franchise in a few years when the revenue and salary cap increases.

Tree of Knowledge 1,868 Posted April 30, 2024 I think he stays to get Gretzky’s record but he may need to play two more seasons to get it.

There is also a chance he breaks the record very late in the season next year. This would be probably his ideal scenario. No way the Caps dump him this offseason and I can’t see him retiring so close to that record. I’ve loved watching him play over the years. Easily top 5 all time.
