ed_jones 0 Posted April 24, 2008 Come on fellow Cowboy fans. It's time to get this thing started! Who do we go with in rd 1? I say even with the trade for Pacman we still grab a top rated CB at 22 and at 28 either a RB or WR depending on who is there. I feel like 28 will either be Felix Jones if we decide the Razorback ties are too strong to pass on or a top flight WR.We be looking at somebody pretty good here. I'd like to see L.Sweed but I dont know if he will fall this far.

ed_jones 0 Posted April 24, 2008 I'd like our 4th round pick back, please. I dont know. I know so far he's proven to be pretty useless as a human being but if (I know, slim chance) he were to get his act together it's well worth the gamble. The guy does have talent and from what I have seen we have redone his contract so that it is team friendly. A cheap contract and his talent seem to be good value for a rd 4. I just hope he straitens up, if not then atleast we havent lost much and it will just have to be lesson learned.
GettnHuge 2 Posted April 24, 2008 This is what they demanded before! a 4th rounder! After the commish said he wasn't making a decision along with all these extortion charges... we coulda done better. Who the hell was bidding against us? Nobody! Guess this means Round 1 is RB-WR for sure now. I'm good with Felix + Sweed.
ed_jones 0 Posted April 24, 2008 yeah, I would be cool with Felix and Sweed. I'm kinda hoping we go Sweed and a CB asuming one of the top 3 or so is still on the board. I'd be happy with getting a rb in rd 2. The value should be very good there as this draft is deep with good RB's. Might not get someone as good as Felix but I think getting the early CB and a rd 2 RB gives us the best overall player grouping.
pee-diddy 27 Posted April 24, 2008 Felix and Sweed would be sweet. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see JJ do something spectacular (as if Pac Man weren't enough) like land McFadden, although it'd probably be foolish (cuz he'd end up overpaying). Remember: JJ has seats to fill! '08 season looks very very nice for Dallas already!
Jwood 0 Posted April 24, 2008 I don't want Sweed and I'm a huge Longhorn fan and seen him play pretty much every game. I wouldn't mind him if he's in the 2nd round, but I don't want to use a 1st round pick on him. I just don't think he'll be all that good in the NFL. He's got the size, but I'm not sure he has "it". He severely underachieved for 2 years in college before he finally had a year that was expected out of him. Also, given Jerry's history, don't be shocked if he trades down on one or both of these picks thinking he can get a RB of value in the 2nd round. He's done it before and cost us Steven Jackson. He loves to do that. I did some research and he's pretty much blown every 2nd round pick since 1994. The 3 keepers were Flozell, Gurode, and Godfrey. Other than that, the rest of those picks absolutely sucked!!!
GettnHuge 2 Posted April 24, 2008 I'm done with the whole trading down crap. I about put my tv out the window when they passed on Randy Moss and wanted to put my foot through it when they passed on Steven Jackson.
ed_jones 0 Posted April 24, 2008 I agree, I was so pissed when they passed on S-Jax . What a retarded move. I am really hoping we stay put.I think the value at 22 and 28 is too good to pass on.
9-Route 0 Posted April 24, 2008 speaking last week, jerry sounded to me that he is definitively in "win-now" mode. i think he may even try sending BOTH 1s to a team needing lots of help with a receiver to be had (ARI-boldin/DET-roy williams) for a stud wr in order to further jetfuel jason garrett's offense. desean jackson has a lot of question marks, including aversion for the weightroom, work habits, size (he has the steve smith height and jets, but not the weight, scrappiness, or toughness), and durability; however, his speed and acceleration in the slot with TO and witten being covered by a nickel corner/safety/backer would be very explosive. onejayhawk 3 Posted April 25, 2008 My last mock draft had, ho hum 22. Felix Jones 28. Aqib Talib 61. Bryan Kehl 92. Tyvon Branch I know that is 2 CBs, but the Cowboys have a history of multiple picks at a position. It makes for better camps, among other advantages. Also both could be cover safeties, which are hard to find. When it comes to crunch time, I expect them to trade out of the 1st round from their own pick, at #28, say to Atlanta. Steve Smith is short, but Emmitt Smith stocky. Desean Jackson is short and skinny. He will likely be the lightest rostered player in the NFL, including P/K. He does not even have Darren Sproles size. Strictly a ST and long 3rd down player. Aquib Talib can bring you a lot of his playmaking skills, and be a useful DB as well. J
mdm_1971 0 Posted April 26, 2008 if and that is a big if mcfadden gets past the Jets which i have heard a couple times today once on the nfl network there is a chance that he does......Jerry will pull the trigger on getting up to get mcfadden and dont think for a second that the pats wouldnt take 2 first to drop down and get some defensive help which is much needed....but i could see if they stay put going db and rb depending on what corners are still left when their first #1 pick comes just my 2cents worth

For all the flack he gets JJ does a pretty nice job in the draft. On top of that this just is'nt a JJ move, he has never gone out of his way to get a Razorback and a trade back is much more likely than a trade up. McFadden to the Cowboys wont happen

Yepyep, now if only we had Bill to make that pick a good one and steal another barber-canty type player. That's a decent move for miami IMHO. Those two players aren't going to make them much better, really, but at least they have two players who are sure to make the team and not be bums.
cowboyz 2 Posted April 26, 2008 they did it again they passed over a workhorse back for another jones
Gepetto 1,304 Posted April 27, 2008 they did it again they passed over a workhorse back for another jones Exactly. Fock. And Jerry Jones' explanation was basically, I feel that Felix Jones is a complementary player to MBIII who can carry the ball 10 times a game while Mendenhall would have been a 25 carry back. And Wade says Felix' big play capability and ability in the open field is important. And Jerry said Felix is a really hard worker. My opinion, Mendenhall is special and they blew it.
Staubach the Great 0 Posted April 27, 2008 Felix will be special this year. I like Medenhall but does not give this offense what it needs in breakaway speed. Put Felix the Cat at 1000 yds and 6 td's this year. They do need to address their offense line which overachieved last year. Hope injuries do not factor into this season's campaign. GettnHuge 2 Posted April 27, 2008 Not a bad trio for day 1 Still need a young wr
tubby_mcgee 700 Posted April 27, 2008 they did it again they passed over a workhorse back for another jones Yeah....because they definitely need a couple workhorse backs? Felix is the perfect complement. PLUS...he's used to being a "3rd down back", and won't cause any turbulance if he doesn't get his "due props".
onejayhawk 3 Posted April 27, 2008 It has been a great month to be a Kansas native. First the Jayhawks, now the Chiefs. But I live in Tejas, and the Cowboys are my other team. They did good too. I would have jumped on Mendenhall, but Felix Jones was a Razorback, so there you are. He is still good value, and fits the roster very well. I am juiced about the Jenkins pick. I had them settling for Cason or Talib. Bennett is basically Fasano all over again, so I do not get that one. Not a bad pick, but not a good result from the starting point. J
sirensong 111 Posted April 27, 2008 don't forget, jones will be an immediate impact played on ST. would mendenhall be able to contribute in the same way?
Gepetto 1,304 Posted April 27, 2008 I'm happy with the players drafted, but would have rather had Mendenhall and Devin Thomas. We still don't have a decent WR going forward. I was assuming Terry Glenn will not make it back.

Gepetto 1,304 Posted April 27, 2008 I was hoping they would take Manningham with the pick they traded to Detroit. Oh well Me too. Or Andre Calwell WR Florida. I read on dallasmorningnews.com that Jerry Jones tried to get the Cowboys draft room to agree with him to make an effort to move way up in the 2nd round yesterday to grab James Hardy, and no one else thought it wa worth it. Gepetto 1,304 Posted April 27, 2008 Now they've traded down 3 straight times. Lost out on Will Franklin too. Cowboys need to draft a WR and a QB. Levelle Hawkins?

Savage Beast 1 Posted April 27, 2008 Bennett was a great pick. He was the #1 Te in the draft! True. And since Dallas traded their 2nd string TE to Miami, they needed a new backup TE to Witten. Dallas is filling needs in this draft, and Dallas added the #1 TE draft prospect to fill one of their needs to boot. It's a win-win for Dallas.
Savage Beast 1 Posted April 28, 2008 I also saw that Oklahoma State WR Adarius Bowman was not drafted. This guy has Braylon Edwards written all over him. Dallas should have used their last draft pick on him.

Gepetto 1,304 Posted April 28, 2008 I think Jerry Jones is way overvaluing Hurd and Austin and Stanback for that matter. Plus Glenn could easily miss several or all games, or never even play again. What's that leave you, a 33 year old T.O. and Patrick Crayton. The Packers, on the other hand added Jordy Nelson early in the 2nd round to go with there plethora of quality wide receivers.
