yostevo 0 Posted November 12, 2008 Every year, same old gripe. The fact is that the Lions started the tradition years ago and the NFL has been appreciative of that and has taken a hands off approach. You don't have to agree with it, but don't fock with tradition. You guys can have your playoff games and superbowls while we sit idly by and we dont complain. Fantasycrazy 0 Posted November 12, 2008 I think the NFL should take the game away from Detroit and tell them it's punishment for running their team into the ground. There will always be the game in Dallas, just because well, there Dallas. As much as I am not a fan of the cowbys I can live with that one because it is probably good for the league. I think the other game should be moved to Green Bay. Outside game in the cold more than likely, it's how you would expect a Turkey day game to be. The Pack is usually competitive, very popular. I think it should have been held their all along. On the other hand, if they want to start changing it up every year I'm good with that too. Why do they HAVE to have games at a specific place every year anyways? What is the advantage to the NFL? Must be an "Old guard" thing.

Maybe because back when the NFL first wanted to do this only Detroit and Dallas stepped forward. If GB wanted it they should have stepped up. Now that it is in their interest other teams want it. Too bad. They didnt step up before so step aside.

RoadLizard 73 Posted November 13, 2008 So DIRECTV isn't available where you live? If not, then np, if so, (Which I'm thinking, it probably is) then it's your choice not to sign up. DIRECTV sucks and there is NO way Im gonna get some half-assed satellite just for 4-5 NFL games a year. There is no reason for the NFL network to not be on cable. Just none. They must be losing zillions of dollars. I just dont get it. If DIRECTV didnt suck such azz I might consider them. But, they are lame and their service is a nightmare. They send out some stoned, $6 dollar an hour loser that proceeds to climb up to your roof and start focking around. Nope. Sorry. Oh well... the stats are what really matter anyways, so I can just keep an eye on the play by play on the internet.
Spinner 0 Posted November 13, 2008 Detroit gets it probably for the same reason Dallas does. Back in the day, no team wanted to play on TG because of the short week. But Tex Scram in his genius offered to play because of the great exposure. Now all teams want to play on TG. Seems like the NFL says "nope, you had your chance". If you pay for it you get it, the problem is that the NFL Network wants your cable company to provide it for "free". I pick it up before the first game and drop it after the last game. I am sure this is what bothers the NFL Network, that when there is no football too many people drop them. The NFL is the culprit here.

patweisers44 707 Posted November 13, 2008 dont all teams get one nationally televised game per year? so if you take away the thanksgiving tradition from Detroit you still gotta deal with them in some other game (sunday night, God Forbid-Monday night, etc). Also, as a former season ticket holder, i never went to the thanksgiving game for a multitude of reasons. Its not all its cracked up to be.
zaurg 0 Posted November 13, 2008 It is available on cable, look at my post above. Must just not be available in your area. It's available on my cable (Comcast - South FL) and is an extra $20 per month (5 for the nfl network "sports package" and 15 for the upgraded "digital" cable service = 20) I went ahead and got it this year because it also gives us Game Show Network which my wife likes. NFL Network's Game Day Final owns anything ESPN does though, I must say. Still it sucks paying extra. Back on topic, I probably won't even be watching these shitty games on Thanksgiving. I'll check live scoring a few times to see how LenWhale and TO are doing, that's about it.

Dallas_Empire 0 Posted November 13, 2008 Detroit has always sucked so they never have anyone watching their games on Thanksgiving. Dallas has been good most of their history and even our haters must admit we get media attention and people just want to watch us play. Detroit should have their thanksgiving game taken away and given to another team. It might be better to just give their game time to Dallas so Dallas can have two game slots. People could watch T.O. warm up for 4 hours prior to kickoff.
montana 89 Posted November 13, 2008 Keep the tradition....Cowboys & Lions on Turkey Day forever! It'd be unAmerican to take it away. Worst case scenrio, start a "board" for a buck a square (like we do) with paidouts after each quarter (20% paidout for the first 3 quarters, 40% for the final score) - always seems to make the games a little more fun. Of course you could always bump up the $, but then it gets too serious.....family thing ya know. The family that gambles together, is the family that stays together....err something like that.
