NorthernVike 2,113 Posted February 27, 2009 I voted Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse. because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't. because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would. because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it. because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people. because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves. because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius. because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive. because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit. because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite The Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters. because my head is so firmly planted up my ass that it is unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view. Just a little tip, just because I don't agree with your politics, doesn't mean you have to start personally attacking me (or anyone else). Please see the thread about what's wrong with this board for more details. Would you really want thread after thread where everyone just agrees with each other. Save the attacks for those who attack you.
titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted February 27, 2009 Why I voted Republican, by Northern Vike... I believe that life is only sacred until birth. After that, I'm all for war, executions, and bombing civilians. I believe that it makes us safer to make sure everybody hates us. I am not responsible enough to be given things like a right to privacy and a right to trial. I believe it is better to borrow from China to fund my wars than to tax our people. I don't believe it is necessary to bother to talk to nations like Iran. Its much more fun to threaten and cajole them. I don't mind sending thousands of American troops to die to set up a democracy somewhere else. I believe building a school in Detroit is socialism. Building one in Mosul is just good foreign policy. I believe that anyone who isn't rich is worthless anyway. I believe that the 2000 year old writings of a desert dweller should determine who is allowed to marry. I believe it is better to incinerate stem cells than to use them to cure disease. I believe that the only solution to gun violence is more gun violence. Because I have my lips so firmly planted around the cack of big business that I can't see anything else.

You missed on this one, but good try I believe it is better to borrow from China to fund my wars than to tax our people. Absofuckinglutly I don't believe it is necessary to bother to talk to nations like Iran. Its much more fun to threaten and cajole them. Don't forget "kill them" I don't mind sending thousands of American troops to die to set up a democracy somewhere else. Worked pretty good in Europe I believe building a school in Detroit is socialism. Building one in Mosul is just good foreign policy. Yep I believe that anyone who isn't rich is worthless anyway. Now, now, the world needs ditch diggers too I believe that the 2000 year old writings of a desert dweller should determine who is allowed to marry. Hey if you like the cack so be it I believe it is better to incinerate stem cells than to use them to cure disease. You don't have to kill a baby to get stem cells I believe that the only solution to gun violence is more gun violence. Guns don't kill people, peo.... fock it, you know Because I have my lips so firmly planted around the cack of big business that I can't see anything else. parrot 790 Posted February 27, 2009 The Federal gas tax is a flat rate of 18.4 cents per gallon, not a percentage. What is obscene about paying a tax to maintain the roads we pretty much all use every day?

FeelingMN 273 Posted February 27, 2009 World War II ?????? And WWI too for that matter. Really? We fought both WWs to instill democratic governments in Europe? And here I thought the US reluctantly joined each war already in progress, and did so to thwart overzealous fascist movements and to turn a quick buck. My only point was that you cannot compare the Iraq War to WWI/WWII. There were different motives and circumstances with each war.

Yes, in both instances, we went to Europe to oppose a monarchy/dictatorship. In the case of WWII, we left troops there, well, they are still there. After WWI, we helped set up the Weimar Republic in Germany. After WWII, we helped set up and militarily protected the West German Democratic State. We did similar for Italy. And if you read the Japanese constitution, you will find it strikingly familiar, as we wrote it for them. I'm not trying to equate the two. Those were necessary, this one isn't, and this one is doomed to fail, as there has been a civilization (I use the term loosely) in Iraq/Mesopotamia since the dawn of time, and it has never, nor will it in the forseeable future, be democratic.
