Vince Young's contract

Recommended Posts

Soooo this retard is due 9 mil next year? Ya think he is going to go off the deep end and kill himself when no one wants him once he gets cut?

Vince Young's contract calls for a $5+ million raise next year in addition to a $4.25 million roster bonus.

V.Y. has shown signs of greater commitment, but he's going to need a Kerry Collins injury or major slump to see the field in 2009. Barring the unexpected, Young will likely have to accept a major cut in pay or face his release next offseason.

Or he could just sit back and retire for life. I wonder if he could manage his millions for the next 50 years and not blow it all? Such a crime rookies get paid so much b4 they've even stepped foot on the field. The NFL is destined for bankruptcy if they keep this up. Just ask Leihart how his backup role is going also? And how much has he made? Don't blame the failed players, blame the system.

He's a worthless turd eating up a roster spot. He'll be gone after a couple more years. Some dumbass like Childress or Del Rio will give this retard another shot. He's virtually retarded.

well, when rookies sign for big bucks when they've never played an NFL Game in their life, they have to expect more pressure to perform.

The teams I really feel sorry for are those who get a #1 overall pick and need to throw out a 50 Mil contract to sign that rookie to a deal. If the rookie doesnt pan out, the team is on the hook for an awful lot of cash.

Ideally, a rookie cap would be put in place where, based on draft position, a team can sign a player for a max salary (maybe that is 2.5 Mil per season for the #1 overall pick and goes down from there) and a min of 3 yrs and max of 5 yrs (at the teams discretion) with performance bonuses totalling no more than 1M per year with the exception of a roster bonus in the 5th year of a contract (if a 5 year contract is signed) that is worth no more than 2 Mil.

this way, players can choose to sign a shorter contract, but are not getting the same amount of guaranteed money. However, if they perform early in their career, they can resign at big bucks at that time.

This way, teams in rebuilding mode (who traditionally will not have the attendance or the revenue a winning team gets) wont get screwed.

of course, this makes some sense, but I cant see it happening.

He did rally the troops the 1st year he was inserted. Remember how bad their record was when he became the starter? There was excitement again in Nashville. Don't take that away from him. Collins was a wonderful Trent Dilfer last year. VY is still work in progress - I'm not giving up hope on him yet. The money is the topic at hand. Not his fault he's making so much. So he's not so smart on paper, or reading the defenses, but he can still move the chains ala Vick.

I have always backed him and always will. Can't really make excuses and some of the stories do have merit.

But he is a good guy, no off field trouble. Lack of a normal father figure probaly didn't prepare him for the NFL competition, when you are a tier above everyone on the field in strength, speed and ablitity through college, the NFL can be a real shock. Whether he will be a productive NFL Qb, I am not sure, like I once was. It would surprise and disappoint me if he didn't. He did some unbelievable things in college I will never get over. Just unreal. I will never give up on him, I hope he doesn't give up on himself.

These are the words of a homer. I see you are in texas so I am sure you watched a lot of his college games and fell in love with him then. He is a moron who can't read a D which is kinda bad seeing as how is is a QB(not a good one). If the titans were smart they would convert him to another position.

I wonder if Young thought he could get away with not working hard in the NFL with all of his talent. I am not sure if Collins will last the season as he's getting up there in years and is not the future of the Titans. The Titans will have an interesting decision at QB after this season.

Personally, I don't think he is moron. Sure I am a homer. Usually a good judge of skill. No way I can be truly objective in this case. But would you expect me to say I am done with him, quit supporting him? Yeah, he has fallen way short of my expectations. But I am from Texas, I wouldn't expect you to understand me and others here not turning our backs on him.

I dont expect you to say you are done with him. I am a MIAMI fan. I still talk of games that Ken Dorsey and Gino Toretta had. I wish they both would have made it to be stars. I follow all miami players. What I AM saying is that he IS a moron who is basically Mike Vick light. He can't read coverages and his only true skill is running. Be a lifelong fan of him for all I care but know that the VY that you watched in college is not the same VY in the NFL. It happens all the time.

Yeah, the thing is that he has tremendous arm strength and accuracy. Not sure why his head is where it is, but the all around talent is there, no doubt.

And now he was dumb enough to "make it rain" at some Nelly show/party. At least it was not at a scrip club...but after the Pac thing...surely anyone would be smart enough not to do anything even close to making it rain again.

I agree that the rookie pay is ridiculus and they need to put in a rookie wage scale. However, paying the rookies insane money will not bankrupt the NFL, it just reduces the amount of money the owners have to pay the veterans, since there is a salary cap. The whole salary cap system helps prevent the owners from paying more salaries than they can afford by capping salaries as a percentage of revenues. If revenues go down, overall salaries go down.

It was on TMZ...did not read the story anyway...or see the supposed video...but they were talking about it on local sports talk yesterday morning...the morning show with Frank Wycheck and had Paul Kuharski who covers the team and also writes for ESPN.com talking about it.

If you watch the video it really isn't a big deal.

Thanks for the link. It's funny when people make a mountain out of a mole hill.

We are going to see this year what is up. Kerry Collins can't hold up much longer, I can't believe he didn't get gimpy last year. Hopefully Vince now has a sense of urgency in his production and he has a couple of new weapons in Britt and possibly Cook. Comeback player of the year. If they even have that in the NFL.

While not really a big deal...the fact that its a Titan...doing something now associated with Pac Man (and wasn't Nelly in the scrip club too) and a shooting that left one man paralyzed...just not a smart thing to even come close to doing.

I see it as not much different than a band throwing guitar picks. All he did was throw the money he had in his pocket, it looked spontaneous not planned. It is nothing like what Pacman did. If you can't see the difference I guess we will just have to disagree.

Yes...throwing money out in a making it rain style...whether planned or not...is nothing like what pac did?

Come on man...its not the same situation...place...or amounts...but an incredibly poor decision on his part given who he plays for and what the thought of "making it rain" brings up.

I can see the difference in the place and the amounts and what went down.

If you all can't see how stupid it is to even conjure up that image this soon after the Pac deal...from a Titan player...same thing...we will just have to disagree.

IMO...while not a big deal and will blow over easily...just not a smart thing to do at all.

Vince Young told WMAR-TV in Baltimore Monday that he wants a chance to play, or out of Tennessee.

Young lost his starting job to Kerry Collins last year when he struggled horribly in new coordinator Mike Heimerdinger's offense, then sprained his MCL in Week 1. "If them guys don’t want me to be in there, it’s time for me to make a career change," he said. "I’m ready to play ball. If they’re not ready for me to play ball, then somebody is." The Titans say V.Y. will compete in camp, but he'd have to outplay Collins by a huge margin to regain the position

Because NFL teams are always on the lookout for an unstable moron that can't read coverage.

sounds like there's a little fire in his belly - good - now if coach Fisher puts him in on the first snap vs Pittsburgh on the opening NFL Thursday night game....then he can OPEN HIS MOUTH b/c I then believe he's earned the job:lol:

Jocstrap's FF Take - - I believe that Kerry Collins will be in the hottest seat of them all. The Titans went 13-0 last year through Collins. Now just imagine if the Titans started 2-4 this year. The boo birds would be out so fast and Young would get the exact same chance that he received his rookie campaign. VY is in a position to steal the job 6 weeks in if the Titans aren't better than 3-3. He better be ready when the time arrives. I just feel a horrible QB situation arising sooner than later this season.

Collins will get 'hurt' at some point. Can't believe he made it through last season. I guess he wanted to get paid one more time before he is done.

7/27/2006: Signed a six-year, $58 million contract. The deal contains $25.74 million guaranteed, including a $2.64 million signing bonus and a $12.3 million option bonus in the second year.

2009: $2.16 million,

2010: $7.5 million (+ $4.25 million roster bonus),

2011: $8.5 million (+ $4.25 million roster bonus),

2012: Free Agent. Cap charges: $4.62 million (2009), $14.21 million (2010), $15.21 million (2011).

Keeping him this year won't be a problem, but he's due to cost them $30M against the cap in the two years after that.

What's really sick is what VY got paid last year to do absolutely jack shiit:

2008 Titans $ 1,500,000 $ 20 $ 5,727,520 $ 7,227,520 $ 3,962,524 QB

2007 Titans $ 840,000 $ 20 $ 5,728,000 $ 13,143,000 $ 3,303,004 QB

2006 Titans $ 275,000 $ 20 $ 2,365,000 $ 2,640,020 $ 2,640,004 QB

7 million - Fock, I'd do the job for a tenth of that.

You keep throwing out these numbers and you're pissed at VY. Why? Not his fault he's raking in the cash. So beating USC in the championship game earned him that and vaulted him to the top. Then he actually did get ROY if I recall correctly. So that's pretty solid also. It's that rookie contract that the nfl allows is who you should be venting at.

I understand what you are saying. No it's not the same situation because Pac-man is a damn fool anyway and he travels with thugs which increases the chance of something bad happening. Yes, it was definately a bad decision for VY to throw money anywhere because of the bad press the Titans received from Pac, but he is no trouble maker. Immature? Yes. Thug? No. He needs to be quiet and stick to his philosophy of "As long as I'm getting my checks, I'll do whatever they want me to do."

just to keep you updated...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Vince Young's agent says the quarterback does not want the Tennessee Titans to trade him, downplaying comments Young made to a Baltimore television station.

Major Adams said that Young's intends to remain in Tennessee and battle Kerry Collins for the No. 1 quarterback position. Adams' reaction was first reported in the City Paper in Nashville.

"Vince's desire has always been to compete for the starting quarterback job in Tennessee," Adams said late Tuesday night. "Even before they drafted him, they asked him if he thought he could compete for the starting role, and he said yes. He has always been a starter and that is his mindset."

Adams said Young worked out at the Titan's Baptist Sports Park on Monday and was planning to attend an event hosted by team owner Bud Adams this week.

"If he didn't have a desire to stay there, he wouldn't be doing any of that," Adams said.

Young's comments to WMAR-TV on Saturday indicated a willingness to leave the Titans if he could not be the starter this season.

"Definitely I want to be in there playing ball and picking up where I left off, winning games and having a good time with my teammates and fans," Young told the station. "But at the same time if them guys don't want me in there, it's time for me to make a career change for myself.

"The fact is I'm ready to play ball, and if they're not ready for me to play ball, somebody is."

Young and the Titans likely will have to come to some sort of resolution after the season, regardless of whether he starts or not, because of a salary cap figure that jumps to $14 million in 2010.

"We're just going to have to let this season play out and see what happens from there," Young's agent said.

He's smart enough to attend the owners offseason events. He's at least playing those cards right wiffle

And yeah, that's great He'll walk out on his team during a game, but he'll do the golf tourney (or whatever) in the offseason. :dunno:
