Is Steve McNair the most overrated QB ever?

Looking over Steve McNair's stats, it is obvious that he was the most overrated quarterback I can ever remember.

 

 

In 13 seasons, he only had three where he had more than 20 TD passes. His next highest was 16.

 

Of course, not only did he never win a championship, but his TD to Interception ratio in the post-season was a pathetic 6:11

 

 

 

Of course, now that he's dead, the players will wear his number on their jerseys and he's a lock for the Hall of Fame. Nothing better for one's legacy than a premature death.

this leading your team. What some guys do for franchises go well beyond stats. Tony Romo is setting all the cowboy's

passing records, but what does that mean, really? McNair's stats also speak a lot of the team he was on and the way

they played. If he were drafted to minnesota with Moss and Carter he'd put up incredible numbers. You make it sound like

Mcnair had a bad arm or something. his senior year in college he produced 527yards per game.

He made some playoff appearences due to Eddie George and great defenses (and Jeff Fisher). The guy never performed in the post season.

 

It's funny how you want to dismiss his lackluster NFL stats but are quick to throw out his awesome numbers at Alcorn St. when you want to tell us how great the guy is.

Marinovich was obviously worse than McNair. A lot of guys were. But for some reason, a few people want to talk about McNair like he was a great QB. He just wasn't. He was supposed to be the savior when Baltimore acquired him and he couldn't even hold on to the starting job. He was a very good quarterback for a three year period, but overall, his NFL career was a disappointment.

He was basically finished when he made it to the Ravens. He had to have his legs in order to play his game. He was one tough SOB, and has earned everything he has. Will he be a HOF'er??? I don't hink so. In his prime, would I have wanted him as my teams QB?? In his prime, he was a top 10 QB who played hard and suffered for it. He didn't hurt the teams he was on, but there were always a handful of other Qb's I'd rather have at the time.

in order to be overrated, you have to be rated. I dont think people have him as one of the best qbs of the decade.

 

with that being said, i thought he was a good qb. not a good passer, but a good leader, smart, could run, made plays, etc.

there is a difference between a QB and a passer

 

lastly, who really knows if he could be a great passer? his teams were run first, played good defense and were in a division with the lowly bengals and the expansion browns. thats 4 games a year you just show up and get a W

Eli also happens to be playing at a time when his division is absolutely loaded with talent. If he had teh luxory of playing in a division like his brother Peyton played in when he was having those carzy-stats years, he'd look a lot more impressive.

 

I don't think Eli's a stud QB. He's not top five, but he does have a ring and it was over the 'greatest team to ever take the field'. And it wasn't a 'let the defense win it for me' ring like Dilfer got. His play to Tyree was one of the best clutch QB plays in Super Bowl history.

Im not saying you are wrong about that but had ELI got his shoulder broke on that play instead of escaping people would be claiming that they should have called him in the grasp.
