Bears hire Martz as OC

Recommended Posts

"He can take us in some areas we've not been before just because of his athleticism and his ability to throw on the move," Martz said. "What I told Jay is, if he's excited about doing those things, that's great. But you can't put a fence around Jay and say, 'This is what he is.' He's just too a good a player. There's nothing this guy can't accomplish at a high level in the passing game."

Asked to compare Cutler with Warner, Martz said, "He has Kurt's accuracy with a stronger arm. His mobility is unusual. What Kurt has that I see in Jay, which is really unusual, is the ability to make terrific throws under duress. More importantly, his ability to see things down the field and react to them very quickly. What he sees is above average. Kurt is the best I've ever seen at it. But Jay has that kind of ability to see things."

What is Martz thinking saying Cutler has the accuracy Warner did with more arm strength....doesn't Martz know he needs to consult to retarded d!cks like the seahooker fans or the fudgepacker fans or worse, the lydown fans for advice on winning a Superbowl.

Oh wait. Martz has won 1 SB and been to another while the fudgepackers, seahookers and lydowns have not won anything in that same time span... :overhead: :bandana:

See above...he praised Kitna and JT Osullivan too.

Difference between you and the rest of us...we read it as coach speak shooting sunshine up his new player's ass...you take it as the 100% fact that Martz actually believes half the crap he is spewing. And you do so blindly because he is now the Bears OC.

And you know damn well that next year...when Lovie is fired, you will be talking about how good it is for the team, that he was never that good and so on.

Martz never won a Super Bowl as a head coach..... He did inherit a team that had won a Super Bowl and that had tremendous Super Bowl talent, but as head coach he could never win a Super Bowl with all that talent.

The Packers have not won anything? They've had only 2 losing seasons in the last 18 years.... so -- unlike your Chicago Lions who have been terrible over the last two decades -- they have won quite a bit.... That includes 4 championship Games and 2 Super Bowls and an almost regular spot in the playoffs.....

But back to Martz.... because this is NOT about the Packers owning the Bears past, present, and future..... there is a reason that Martz is a journeyman coach.....

And he's perfect for the joke of a franchise that we call the Chicago Lions :overhead:

HTH! :o

Rod Marinelli promoted to Defensive Coordinator?........... Ouch.

Now I'm just waiting for the Chicago Lions to hire Rod's son in law and we're all set.

Maybe he should. I'm sure we all would have suggested he give the ball to Marshall Faulk in the 2001 Superbowl. I Would have advised him not to take the Bears OC job as well.

And Vermeil won the SB jackass. Richard Vermeil was head coach in the Superbowl the Rams didn't choke away.

the first thing martz said when he arrived in detroit was that he loved mike williams and said mike was one of the most "nimble" wrs he had ever coached.

so...i wouldn't fall in love with any martz soundbites just yet, sweetmeat.

Detroit breeds failure. JC himself would sink instead of walking on water in Detroit. Let's not paint Martz with a brush based on his time in Detroit. While I think the move stinks now, I'll wait and see what happens on the field. They will either succeed or it will mark the end of the Lovie \ Angelo era.

and chicago doesn't breed failure? wtf are you smoking? how's benson doing these days? mcmahon was the last qb chi didn't ruin, and even then his career was short-lived.

that's a funny one, walter.

the bears kill just about every qb, rb, and wr that enters soldier stadium. and they have for decades.

Many will over look this move hiring at this time of the year.

But Martz has shown to have a wizadry master mind like no splendor before.... since Coryell.

Jay will get blasted early and often. But if his diabetic pacemaker can hold up (they inplanted one inside his body), then you can pencil him in for 4,000 yds and 25 TDs.

+1

Benson was a mistake from day 1. The Bears have made many over the years and he is up there with the worst of them.

If you think Chicago or anywhere else in the NFL is close to the level of failure that detroit has been, then you are delusional. While things crumbled this year and look somewhat iffy or even bleak for the near term future, they are nowhere close to the ineptness that is and has been detroit.

3 playoff appearances in the last 6 years including 1 superbowl for Chi. Better than average for the recent past. Detroit? A high point of 7 wins several years back.

- 12 winning records and 32 losing records in the 44 years since SB1

- 2-30 record the past two years

- 1-9 playoff record since SB1

I dont profess the bears to be any more than mediocre at this point, but to compare them to the Lions is laughable and wishful thinking on your part.

Be happy that you beat Cleveland this year. Hope for a 3rd win next year. Hope that the current regime may one day regain respectability. These should be your goals. Until one or more of these things happen, you should sit back and be quiet. Crapping on a team that has owned yours forever just makes you look silly.

I agree with you on the histories of both franchises. However, until they blow everything up in Bear-land and start over, I like the future prospects of Detroit much more.

I'm very torn on these recent hires by the Bears. I hate Martz and think he will probably get Cutler killed, but on the other hand this is the exact opposite move of the same old boring Bears with their dink and dunk conservative offenses of the past.

I know everyone on this board always looks to the past to figure out what is going to happen in the future, and find some arbitrary statistic to try and prove their original claim, but it never really applies because of different variables. If you take Martz for example; his past indicates two outcomes.

1. He leads the Bears offense to a record setting season à la Rams days (Which isn't saying much because of the Bears historically terrible offenses)

2. He gets Cutler killed with 7 step drops behind a swiss cheese O-line à la Detriot days.

But I think it will be something in the middle, I think Martz may have learned from his mistakes in Det/SF and hopefully the Bears will benefit from it.

But with the promotion of Marinelli and hiring of Tice, it almost appears as if the Bears are "tanking" this season in hopes of getting a big name coach like Cowher or someone.

In conclusion, it doesn't matter what I think (or anyone else on this board for that matter) because win, lose or draw I'm still a Bears fan.

glad you agree with me.

like i said, the bears have nothing on the lions as far as killing the careers of coaches and players. the other stuff in your rambling, incoherent message wasn't remotely relevant to the point.

What is Singletary thinking? He should consult with retards (aka seahooker fans; fudgepacker fans; one lion but not really a lion fan) :first:

============================

INDIANAPOLIS -- Mike Singletary fired Mike Martz in December of 2008, but the 49ers coach and Bears legend obviously still has respect for his former offensive coordinator.

Singletary was asked Thursday for his thoughts on Martz taking the same position with the Bears.

"Like Terrell Owens would say with 'Get your popcorn ready,' that's what you can get ready for with Mike Martz,'' Singletary told the Tribune at the NFL scouting combine. "He knows offense."

Martz is known for his explosive offenses, and the Bears figure he should be able to work well with Jay Cutler. Before he was hired, Martz flew to Nashville to meet with the quarterback.

"I think he will be great for the young man who is playing quarterback there," Singletary said. "(Cutler) needs someone like Mike Martz.

"That kid is a smart kid ... has feistiness to him or whatever. And I think Mike Martz can bring out the part that (Cutler) needs in order to go to the next level."

Obviously he was thinking Martz was not good enough to keep on as a coach...since he freaking fired him.
