Super Bowl in a crappy weather city? They cant be serious....

Recommended Posts

Has the NFL lost their mind? I have been reading bits and pieces about the NFL awarding a Super Bowl to New Jersey or possibly New York in the not too distant future. I assume they are only joking, right? Thats about the worst idea ever for your premiere matchup. 90% of the fans wont stand for such stoopidity.

Do you think they'll really do this? ;)

People still buy tickets in Green Bay during the winter. I see no reason why this is any different.

The 1958 National Football League Championship Game was played on December 28, 1958 at Yankee Stadium in New York City. It was the first ever National Football League (NFL) game to go into sudden death overtime. The final score was Baltimore Colts 23, New York Giants 17. The game has since become widely known as "The Greatest Game Ever Played".

Attendance -64,185

I'd actually like to see it played either at the Big House or the Horseshoe sometime in the future.

The interesting thing to me is the NFL will probably drop a double-standard on the whole thing. New York - yes. Green Bay - no. It is still going to be about the event the whole week leading up to the game, so the NFL will not want it in a place like Green Bay, IMHO, because they wouldn't be able to attract the same star power to Wisconsin. New York would not be a problem in that respect.

NY/NJ already won the 2014 super bowl bid. The allure of NY outweighed the lack of a retractable roof.

i also agree with what was said regarding NY vs. Green Bay. Its all about the event moreso than the game itself and Green Bay wouldn't be able to attract the same magnitude.

a retractable roof was originally part of the stadium plans at the meadowlands but I guess got cut due to other costs. would have been really nice to have one, now there will be so much scrutiny surrounding the game, they better pray for a cold but calm evening.

When I first read this post, I assumed it was from a couple of weeks ago. But then I noticed that it was written this morning. So I ask.... where have you been? Yes, I really think they'll do it. In fact, we all know that they are going to do in February of 2014.

I live in New York and I think it's a horrible idea. Weather should be a factor when it comes to the rest of the playoffs because you've earned the right to play in your stadium. If you're a cold weather team, that could give you a distinct advantage depending on the opponent. A weather advantage in the Super Bowl isn't earned because it's completely random. Weather shouldn't factor into the big game.

yeah but you could argue that some teams are more comfortable playing in a dome or on grass or turf etc etc and every year the Super Bowl could potentially favor one team who is used to playing in similar conditions.

nothing is as drastic as possible snow in NY but lets say you have New Orleans against the Jets in the super bowl and the game is played in a dome on turf. Which team has an advantage? I would say New Orleans.

its hard to ever have a completely neutral game. its the nature of the NFL being single games instead of a series

I hope the weather is horrible and they scrap the idea of cold weather sites altogether in the future. Laying by the pool or being at the beach with chicks in bikinis and 80 degree weather are what superbowls are all about. Regarding the game, I like minimizing the potential of weather being a factor in a superbowl

Well this year the SB will be about NYC getting rammed down our throats. I expect many references to Rudy Goulliani , 9/11 and parties thrown by Jay-Z :shocking:

Are you implying that the Seahawks get rammed down people's throats here? Yeah, its real hard for some users to avoid the ONE thread dedicated to Seattle on this board.

You have to admit it's pretty strange to get two different -40- page threads for a team that is mediocre at best.

It speaks to the loyalty of the team's fans on this board. Also, if you go through the latest thread (the original mysteriously vanished) you'll see a ton of posts from non-Seahawks fans as well. Not our problem others have a hard-on for a team that is "mediocre at best".

It is also completely irrelevant to the topic in this thread.

I saw nothing wrong with the previous system of rotating between warm weather cities (save the "cute" years in Detroit, ect.). Leave it to dumbfock Goodell to go and fix something that wasn't broken.

Sorry Road Lizard...most fans will actually disagree with you.

Despite your opinion, most fans actually enjoy outdoor football and not some crap played on carpet indoors like you enjoy.

Plenty even enjoy defensive football and don't just want high flying offense non-stop.

I think you would be much happier just watching Arena football.

Enjoy.

You must be from the south or west coast???? Football is supposed to be played out doors and in the cold.
