++ Update: Ryan Grant Out for the year ++

Recommended Posts

Update: Grant is out for the year with ankle and leg injuries.

Ryan Grant already is ruled out next week against the Bills and their not so great run defense.

Packers' Grant already ruled out for Week 2

Grant

Ryan Grant (sprained ankle) has been ruled out for Week 2 against the Bills.

Grant has never missed a game in his career due to injury. It's likely that the ankle became increasingly sore and swollen overnight, potentially putting his status for Week 3 in doubt as well. Brandon Jackson will start Sunday and immediately becomes a RB2 option in a favorable matchup against a Bills team that ranked 32nd in run defense last year. He's top waiver claim of the week. I have the #1 Waiver and Brandon Jackson is out there. I cant make up my mind to grab him or not. But the Packers should get up big on the Bills and run the ball alot. So the potential is very good. Im getting him the hell with it i need RBs too.

If you need RB help...not a bad idea.

The guy will get the bulk of the carries.

Right now, there is no other RB even on the roster.

FB John Kuhn was the 3rd RB.

Their rookie Starks is on the PUP and Tampa has Lumpkin.

Unless they go get someone like Kolby Smith, or Fargas, or bring Ahman back...Jackson has solid value.

Even with a signing, Jackson will be given the bulk of the work for sure.

Yea i was just reading that Grant and Jackson are the only 2 RBs the Packers have on roster to start the season.

Blowing a #1 waiver on Jackson this week is fine if you absolutely need his production in Week 2, but that's a high price to pay for such a temporary player. If Ryan Grant was out 4-6 weeks, and you knew GB was handing the job to Jackson, that'd be one thing, but the Packers have never really shown that much in Brandon Jackson and Grant's injury doesn't appear to be very serious.

Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant has been ruled out for at least Sunday's upcoming game against Buffalo with a "significant" ankle injury.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy provided the update at a Monday press conference and said the team was still gathering information on his condition. He added a timetable should become clearer after more testing.

"It's a significant injury to the ankle and the ligament involved in the ankle, which has now required more testing, and we'll continue to process all the information throughout the day," McCarthy said.

Grant limped into the locker room before halftime and did not return to Green Bay's eventual 27-20 win over Philadelphia. The injury was originally termed a sprain. He ran for 45 yards on eight carries before exiting.

Brandon Jackson filled in admirably for Grant the rest of the way and will get the call to start against the Bills. The fourth-year pro out of Nebraska rushed for 63 yards on 18 carries and caught two passes for 12 yards Sunday.

"I feel Brandon Jackson carried the load yesterday. I think there's a lot of evidence right there, recent evidence that he's able to play all three downs, and he will have that opportunity this week vs. Buffalo," McCarthy said. "I thought it was a good solid performance for Brandon. Broke a lot of tackles. We had four explosive runs, which is outstanding and that's a big credit to Brandon."

The latest.............Doesn't sound promising for Grant coming back too soon.........atleast right now.

"Brandon Jackson to me is an every-down back," McCarthy said. "(He) is a good special teams player, too. He's a complete football player, and if we had to play all three downs with him, I wouldn't even blink."

Green Bay's next 3 games.

Thats why i am a little hesitant to do it. Its way to early to be in "must" win next week. Waivers do not go through till Wednesday so we have a couple days to get more info on Grants condition. Im hoping to go 1-1 this week in the league where i can grab Jackson. If i lose both my games this week ill grab him without question. But last year i started off 0-4 and finished 20-9 and with a championship :first: so slow start not always bad.

Am frustrated because I grabbed Jackson on my last pick in my family league (blue roster in my sig), then promptly dropped him for Huggins (who I promptly dropped for Rashad Jennings when the MJD mystery injury was all the rage, who I promptly dropped for M. Bush when he got dropped after surgery) So I think I upgraded ok in the long run with M. Bush (maybe?) but frustrated that I had him in the first place. I'm sure I won't get him on waivers.

I think the injury is more significant than Grant thinks....

If he's available and you have the room, Jackson will be a nice play -- Buffalo, CHI, Det, Wash, Miami -- if Grant's injury lingers...

I wish I could grab him <_<

Ankle sprains, especially if its a high ankle sprain, can be worse then a break. And looking at the next 3 weeks Green Bay has no real reason to rush Grant back. Buffalo and Detroit should not put up much a fight and any GB running back should get plenty of touches and pts. Chicago may put up a better fight with their defense but hell any RB playing for Green Bay should have big holes for running with the amount of studs in passing game.

So "if" its even for just 2 weeks i think its worth it. If you can go 6-0 in those 3 weeks its worth it.

I already have Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, Adrian Foster and Javid Best as my backs. I have the #1 priority and if I pick Jackson up, it would only be for a defensive purpose only because the Grant owner has the #2 waiver and he NEEDS him. What do you think?

PS, The SOB beat me this week too.

Id probably do it to block him  Or hold out and hope someone more valuable comes in next few weeks

Ive got #1 waiver and the Grant owner is sitting at #3 and he beat me this week. Unless Floyd and Mathews have Foster like halfs im going 0-2 and will be 2 games behind in my division already so im not letting him get his hands on Jackson :nono:

I think the injury is more serious than anyone is saying, but we should know more before waivers process in most leagues.

I'm going after Jackson, as I could use some better flex plays in a couple leagues. Just keep in mind that John Kuhn is going to be a goal line vulture.

From Rotoworld:

"FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer reports Ryan Grant is done for the season with severe ankle and leg injuries.

Grant is expected to be placed on injured reserve, turning the backfield over to Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn. Any waiver wire debate this week over, with Jackson now the no-brainer choice. Though he's been a picture of health until this week, Grant's Green Bay career is now at a crossroads. Turning 28 in December, Grant has escalators in his contract that the Packers likely won't want to pay in 2011. He'll have to restructure to stay on"

Grant will miss the rest of the season with severe ankle and leg injuries, FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports. However, SI's Will Carroll says the report "directly conflicts" with what he has heard regarding Grant's injury.

I had no chance at Jackson anyway (Grant owner had the #2 Waiver and I have #4)...now I really don't.

Was hoping this would not come out and that he would miss it before tomorrow.

Sucks big time for GB.

Better now than late in the year when you can't get someone in to figure the system out I guess.

Lynch (not this week as they are playing Buffalo and I don't see the Bills giving him up to give GB any info or help them this week).

Ahman Green?

Kolby Smith?

Fargas?

Gado?

Packers lose Ryan Grant for the entire season

FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer reports Ryan Grant is done for the season with severe ankle and leg injuries.

Grant's high ankle sprain also resulted in a fracture near his knee. He's expected to be placed on injured reserve, turning the backfield over to Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn. It looked bad live, but wow. I think they like Jackson enough to just pick up a warm body, at least till Starks comes off the PUP, but Lynch could work here.

any reason not to go all in for leagues with waiver bid points? i'm gonna put all 100 on jackson. big upgrade to my RB2 and/or flex position over caddy williams. the grant owner is ahead of me on waivers though if he goes all in too.

What's wrong with Starks? I thought I'd heard he was having a good preseason.

He was hurt all preseason and put on the PUP list.

Well, I guess not then. I just thought I'd heard someone pushing BJax, but clearly not him.

Is this a "Wow, we like this kid, and it's time to start rebuilding" move?

This is VERY interesting.

You have to also look at like Lynch, Larry Johnson, and possibly FWP here. Anyone else?

Nah...looks more like a cheap option than anything else.

Start rebuilding?

Barring a player for player trade, I don't see them doing anything else for a bit after the Nance move.

He will have to be on their 53 man roster for at least 3 weeks...I don't see them cutting someone else to sign another player.

BJax will do great this year.

No need for the packers to find anyone else but backups.

They were grooming BJax to replace Ryan Grant anyway.

Rebuilding at RB (not the team, obviously). They have the firepower to keep things moving with an aerial offense and an attacking DST. But if Grant is done for the season, and Brandon Jackson hasn't done much the past few years to challenge that, I suspect they're not looking to him to make the next step. I know nothing of the ATL guy, an undrafted rookie?, but it seemed like an odd move, so was wondering if there was more to it.
