Benching Calvin Johnson this week?

Recommended Posts

With Reeves and the Jets..Do you even consider benching him... I know, I know the NEVER BENCH YOUR STUDS theory but I am in a tight race for playoff spot at 4-4 and cant have my WR shut down by the jets.

Have the Jets reached that point- MAybe I am just scared because I lost last week when they SHUT DOWN the GB offense

Jennings, the GB WR1, got 8 fantasy points last week versus the Jets. That's not a "SHUT DOWN" performance.

IN MY LEAGUE:

A.Rodgers =3.65 pts

G.Jennings = 4.05 pts

Driver= 0 pts

B.Jackson= 3 pts

THAT IS SHUT DOWN to me.....

Yes. Bench a stud WR that is coming off his best game of the season and has his QB back. :thumbsdown:

Who might I ask are your other options?

Didnt include because didnt want this to become a "Help board question" but since you asked

I have Moss(bye), both M. Williams, Wallace and floyd(hurt) so not much- I will be starting TB - Williams and probably CJ but was just wondering if anyone even considered benching- I mean the Jets D is for real- GB offense is better than DET and they didnt look good last week. It will be hard for me to bench just because if he gets shut down -oh well I started my stud but if I bench and he goes off then I look like a MORON!!!!

I could see rolling M. Williams(tampa) and M. Wallace out in front of him(and maybe outscoring him) but I personally wouldn't do it/bet on it.

I benched him once for the Giants game, and I'm never benching him again.

They don't call him Megatron for nothing. I'm starting him and if he gets me 3 for 40 I don't care, I'm not having him go off on my bench while Wallace gets me 2 for 24.

I could possibly see me benching him for Bowe if the African CB on the Raiders is out... but probably not.

Megatron and Tampa Mike will be rollin out for me this week until further notice.

*Sidenote

I think the Bucs will be down to the Falcons this weekend and Freeman will be throwing alot. I expect Tampa Mike to have a good game vs the Falcon's questionable 2ndary - maybe his first multi - TD game? :headbanger:

I know they will try at least 1 play action bomb to MW this game. Blount gives us a run game :cheers:

wtf? you have shiat for options. you have no option other than to start cj--not that you should bench a stud anyway.

why did you even ask that question with that lineup of wrs?

This thread is insanity. Megatron is unbenchable. I don't care if he's got Revis, Asomugha, and Flowers triple covering him all day.

Grasshopper -

Embrace the fact that he might get you 2 points, and accept that it could end in a loss for you. Then let the chips fall where they may and be at peace with the outcome.

starting CJ with Smith NY and Williams TB

Harvin and Vjax sit the bench.

Harvin makes my choice easy, but i wouldnt sit CJ for many WRs. Revis hasnt been Revis this season.

I'm benching Megatron in 2 leagues. Just because he may get me 30 doesn't mean I can risk him only getting me 7.

Unless you have stellar options sitting Megatron, especially at home, is nuts.

He has 7 tds :shocking: in his last 4 games. Even if the Jets blow out the Lions he should still be good for a garbage time huck.

This man may be the BEST pure talent WR in the game right now.

And if you have those options, please let us hear them. At least two of them better be named Roddy White.

I'm glad I don't have to choose. 14 team league. Rolling Roddy, Calvin, and Owens(flex). :pointstosky:

If the Jets choose to match-up Revis w/ Calvin one-on-one, they're gonna get torched, IMO. Revis is over-hyped this year. Start Calvin & reap the rewards.

Agreed. Bench Megatron this week.

I'd also bench Peyton Manning against a well-coached Eagles secondary. Keep ADP on your bench as well as long as Favre is the QB, not worth the risk that he may not get any TDs.

:shocking:

(But really - ESPN has Megatron ranked #3. Do not bench your studs.)

I benched him once this year when he was banged up and coming off some mediocre games. Never again. It cost me the game and now I sit at 2-6 about to be eliminated from the playoffs. Lesson learned (again).

My league is a non-ppr league with bonus Td's so Wallace could be a good play but I agree with most on this list that I CANNOT bench him unless I had White, Gates, etc so Im rolling with the beast!!! I posted this to see if anyone else was even considering benching. I appreciate all the replies

I've already learned my lesson this year with Megatron, and I don't bench him. Jet's didn't shut down Jennings last week, and they apparently don't use Revis against certain players, they leave him on one side of the field. How many times have we seen Megatron double covered and still goes up and snags a TD.

This. Revis island is no more. And if he keeps slipping we're going to start calling him Gilligans Island. :mellow:

Revis Island is not that scary of a place this year. Last year it was Alcatraz while this year it is more like the island on Lost, you never know what to expect. I am rolling Megatron out there and I expect 80 and a TD. :banana:

Okay, so your league has a stupid scoring system. In STANDARD leagues, which most people play in, Jennings had a decent game. Good yardage, but no TD. Don't expect a lot more out of Calvin Johnson than that.
