browns16-0 30 Posted December 9, 2010 Being the first week of my playoffs, I am curious where others think he should be ranked this week. Is he out of the top 15, or even the top 25? I have few options, may opt for a Sidney Rice or Miles Austin this week over him. Up until last week he had been so money, but With Croyle the starter, I look for the Chiefs to run all day long. Also, if I remember correctly, San Diego is ranked number 1 against the pass this season.
PATSSOX 22 Posted December 9, 2010 Being the first week of my playoffs, I am curious where others think he should be ranked this week. I hope he struggles one more week Here are some interesting stats/facts from CBS: Kansas City WR Dwyane Bowe could have a difficult time returning to top form in Week 14. Bowe, who is coming off a disappointing game against Denver in Week 13 when he did not record a catch, faces San Diego's top-ranked pass defense Sunday. The Chargers are allowing just 186.3 passing yards a game and only two receivers have registered 100-plus yards against them this season. Prior to Week 13, Bowe tallied 465 receiving yards in his previous three games and had two outings with 13 receptions. He still leads all NFL receivers with 14 touchdowns despite being shut out against the Broncos and is a big target in the red zone. Keep in mind Bowe's production could again be limited if Chiefs starting quarterback Matt Cassel (appendectomy) is forced to miss the game and leave Brodie Croyle under center. Croyle has yet to play a snap this season.(Updated 12/08/2010). Forgot to add this from CBS Fantasy AnalysisBowe certainly has a tough challenge awaiting in Week 14. San Diego is second in the league in fewest Fantasy points allowed to wide receivers (13.8) and has surrendered more than six receptions to a wideout just twice this season. In the teams' Week 1 meeting this season, Bowe had his second-worst game of the season and finished with just one catch for 13 yards. Bowe should still be considered a borderline No. 1 Fantasy WR because of his hot streak, but temper your expectations if Croyle is the starting quarterback. krusin 0 Posted December 9, 2010 Find a replacement for Bowe - If Cassell is out forget it. Even if Cassell toughs it out and plays, I can't imagine he will be effective...

GMENMANIA 0 Posted December 9, 2010 Luckily I have a first round bye in the playoffs, so I can take a wait and see approach with him. I'll probably start him week 15 regardless, but have some decent depth if things aren't looking good. I'd be surprised if he cracks the top 25 fantasy WRs this week tho with Cassel out and SD's strong defense keying in on him.
crackills 19 Posted December 9, 2010 damn! all my receivers have questions marks the first week of the playoffs: Bowe - Croyle at QB TO - banged up Fitgerald - ineffective w crap QB S. Rice - was last game a fluke or norm going forward?

rogwadd 0 Posted December 10, 2010 Posted this on another bored: Not sure what everyone's opinion on Eric Karabell over at ESPN is, but he's offered his opinions. From his blog, an Insider feature.:/http://insider.espn.go.com/sports/fantasy/blog?name=karabell_eric_football&id=5902745 I can't make much of a case for fantasy owners to trust Croyle, a career 57.7 percent passer with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions in 16 games (nine starts), but at the same time, I don't think his presence destroys the value of Bowe or running backs Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones. The drop from Cassel to Croyle isn't the issue, it's San Diego's ability to control the line of scrimmage. The Chargers are the best team in the league at keeping opposing fantasy quarterbacks in check, with an average of 9.8 fantasy points per game. When it comes to running backs, the Chargers are 17th, fresh off the Raiders torching them for 197 yards on 43 carries, two touchdowns and 35 fantasy points. Prior to Week 13, Raiders backs Darren McFadden and Michael Bush had been struggling. Not anymore! Ultimately, I trust the studs in the fantasy playoffs, and I feel Bowe can make a few big plays no matter the quarterback. He's fantasy's top wide receiver for the season, on an amazing run until Week 13. This wasn't a spectacular matchup for him to start with, which is why I have him at No. 5 among wide receivers for the week. I plan to drop him down just a bit based on the news, but he's still a top 10 guy, capable of making a big play at any time with anyone slingin' the ball. The running backs were going to be fine, and that hasn't changed. I did some digging last night and he has connected with Bowe before with a TD.....once. And a reply: He also has connected with Bowe for 43 catches in 9 games; which averages out to just under 5 catches a game.. If he keep it going and get the Ball in Bowe's hands 5 times, then I'll take the odds of Bowe getting a TD out of that, and would be more then happy with those stats. 5 catches, 50-70 yards and a TD is about what I was hoping for from Cassel I'll admit, I'm in a quandry. May bench him and flex with the likes of Starks or BMarsh. Guess I'll keep TJones in my lineup.
Chronic Husker 85 Posted December 10, 2010 No way is Bowe a top 10 WR this week. I wouldn't start him unless you have no other good options. Someone above mentioned Sidney Rice. Rice is an easy call above Bowe. I've watched probably every snap Croyle has taken with KC. He was handed the starting job and lost it to Tyler focking Thigpen in 07. A lot of things working against Bowe in this game. Croyle is small and looked unimpressive when given a shot. The Chiefs offensive line isn't too greta when the defense knows they're throwing the ball. As mentioned above, SD has done well vs. the pass (and run) this year. This is a MUST WIN game for the Chargers and their fans will be going crazy. I'm sure Bowe will get some targets but I wouldn't expect more than a few catches and 50 yards from him. KC has no #2 WR to pull coverage off of Bowe. Their next best option is Moeaki. Sit him if you have other options.
Kent 228 Posted December 10, 2010 Well, Bowe had zero catches with a healthy Cassel last week. I fail to see how Croyle can do WORSE than that. Hard to bench Bowe. I can't do it. I'm not starting Manningham of VJAX for him. Who's got better options at this point.
nygiants 0 Posted December 10, 2010 I have Bowe as well....this sux. I think you have to bench him in this game. KC has been run heavy even with Cassel. The problem is if Croyle starts KC coaches will probably go 80% run. Bowe is great but the opportunities won't be there enough for him to do much in the game. The coaches will handcuff him. That's how I see it. I have Starks, Gaffney, SimsWalker, etc to possibly start at flex instead of Bowe...not excited about my chances this week because of this Cassel nonsense...depressing. mont71 2 Posted December 10, 2010 Would you say rice, floyd or williams (TB) are better option this week than bowe?
crackills 19 Posted December 10, 2010 I think it comes down to who can you replace him with. at worst Bowe is a top 15WR this week. If you have a top 10wr on the bench .. start him. if not.. you might have to go with him. My only other plug in player is Fitzgerald. We start 3wrs and i am already starting Rice, TO over him.. Fitz is going against Bailey w a new QB(that cant be worse than Anderson).... i need to pick my poison i guess.

Fitz is going against Bailey w a new QB(that cant be worse than Anderson).... i need to pick my poison i guess. I've got a similar situation with having to start 2 out of Bowe, Fitzgerald, and Nicks in a PPR league. Nicks health leads me toward benching him, but I can't say I like ANY of their situations. Bowe with Croyle at QB against the Chargers. I have a feeling the Chiefs will try to run the ball as much as possible in this game, even more than they normally do. I expect a lot of 3rd and 8 draw plays to Jamaal Charles even, where the Chiefs are just trying to play field position. The only chance I can see Bowe having a big game is if the Chiefs fall behind early, and are forced to throw it more eventually. Fitzgerald with Skelton at QB and Champ Bailey covering him. Skelton actually doesn't bother me at all, as he can't be any worse than Derek Anderson or Max Hall. But Champ Bailey is a little scary. Bailey usually just covers the left side of the field, but after shadowing Bowe all last week, I now assume he will do the same this week on Fitzgerald. Fitz is still talented enough to get his, but he needs a QB that can get the ball to him. Nicks obviously has the leg issue. In the other thread I said I didn't think he would play or should play. BUT it looks like he is on track to play. No one knows how many snaps he can go or how healed the leg actually is. A healthy Nicks starts for me over Bowe or Fitz this week, but I'm not sure I can do it here. Luckily I've clinched a playoff berth and this the final regular season week. I am mainly trying to catch the #1 seed by outscoring him by 40+ this week. This isn't likely, but still possible.. Hopefully next week presents better options here... Ofcourse I didn't take my own advice and left Bowe in there, mostly because of lack of better options. However, any option other than Starks would have been better. We need Cassel back if I can survive this week.

Stewburtx8 67 Posted December 13, 2010 Croyle was bad, and the playcalling may have been worse, BUT Dwayne Bowe didn't help himself or the team yesterday. He had at least 3 bad drops that I saw that could of sustained some drives for the Chiefs. Hopefully Cassell is back next week though...
