*** OFFICIAL FFToday NFL Mock Draft ***

Recommended Posts

So worm (no relation) mentioned the idea of doing an FFToday NFL Mock Draft in this thread. I figured I would get the ball rolling.

The rules are that each pick is up for debate until any one player gets three votes. Any person can chime in for any team, but if you are a knowledgeable fan of the team making the pick then you might want to explain that to sway the other voters. The first player with three votes then becomes the pick and we move on to the next team.

I will update this thread each night, but once a player has three votes there isn't any need to wait for me to update before moving on to the next pick. No trades allowed because that would be too difficult to do without certain persons representing each team.

The draft order is:

Round 1

1. Carolina Panthers - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

2. Denver Broncos - Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama

3. Buffalo Bills - Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M

I'll get things started with the first pick. I think the Carolina Panthers will select QB Cam Newton from Auburn.

I don't necessarily think he is the best pick for the Panthers, but they need a quarterback and someone that can sell tickets. I suppose they could go with Blaine Gabbert but most people seem to agree that Newton has more potential.

Panthers - Newton x2

Denver Broncos select Von Miller

Best player in draft hands down

Depth at DL position makes it easier to take Miller here

I'll throw the 3rd vote for Cam...seems to be a lot of buzz of Cam getting picked first by Car. If they do go QB they must think Jimmy C. really sucks after burning a 2nd rounder on him last year.

Don't like the Cam pick for Carolina, but that is who it is probably going to be. For Denver, I think the best pick left on the board, that also fits a huge need, is Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama.

I agree with Dareus to denver, Von Miller is going to be a stud but I dont think denver needs another LB?

so that 2x dareus

Any chance Denver goes QB at #2? Elway doesn't seem to be in love with Tebow and it doesn't seem like they think Orton is the longterm answer either.

It's possible but a DT, CB or LB are needs too. I'll chime in with Tony's analysis...

2. Denver Broncos – Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

John Fox loves his athletic big-play ends, so I could easily see DE Da’Quan Bowers being the pick here. But Fox will have more to work with on the edge with the return of Elvis Dumervil, and Robert Ayers has the opportunity for a fresh start at his natural position. DT is a bigger need, and DL Marcel Dareus is gaining consensus as the pick here; still, I don’t see a talented corner like Peterson falling far, even though the team re-signed Champ Bailey. Peterson is a unique talent as a big playmaking corner with speed and as a returner in the mold of Charles Woodson. This draft is deep at DT, which makes Peterson a better value at this spot.

Marcell Dareus - 2

Von Miller - 1

Patrick Peterson - 1

Dareus.

In the Broncos mailbag from the Denver Post .com the writer claims they would love to trade out of the two spot, but due to the CBA/lockout situation they doubt they will be able to.

So that make 3 votes for Dareus..

lets go to buffalo..

I"ll start, although I would not be all that supprised to see Gabby here..

Buffalo picks: Von Miller, thoughts?

Buffalo is an interesting pick. I could see them going with Von Miller or Patrick Peterson. I think there is even a chance that Robert Quinn goes this high. And you never know, they may go with Blaine Gabbert if they don't think Fitzgerald is a long-term answer.

My pick for Buffalo is Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU. He can step in and excel on his own, whereas Von Miller wouldn't be more dependent on the Bills' (crappy) defensive line.

Thanks for getting this started IGotWorms (brother from another mother?).

I'm picking Von Miller to Buffalo, since it looks like Maybin is a bust.

I'll make that 3 votes for Von Miller. Cincinnati? With TO and Ochocinco gone, WR makes the most sense here. I personally like Julio Jones slightly over AJ Green, but I think the pick right now would be Green, so that's what I'll say.

4. Cincinnati Bengals

Tough call here for Cincinnati. I they really like Gabbert then he is probably the pick but I might wait another year to draft the QB and take...

A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

QB Blaine Gabbert - 2 votes

WR A.J. Green - 2 votes

as mush as green and jones both work for Cincy I will go ahead and break the tie by selecting QB Blaine Gabbert (if nothing more just to give a big fock u to Palmer)

As much of a mess as the Bengals are, I can see them blowing this pick on a QB. But with Green being the type of playmaker that only comes aroun every couple of years, I say Green is the pick.

Arizona is pissed.

They get possibly the best player of the draft in Patrick Peterson. That or they trade down, but for the purposes of this mock I vote Peterson to AZ.

AGREE.. BIG TIME PISSED!!!

But they do get a great talent in Patrick Peterson, I will 2nd that vote

Peterson to Zona -x3

Browns take DL Nick Fairly

Considered Green but Fairly seems to be a guy they won't pass up at 6

6. Cleveland Browns – A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

While some of Cleveland’s young receivers have potential, Green is an elite talent who can give QB Colt McCoy—who the team appears satisfied with—the big-play target he lacks. It would be hard to pass on DL Marcel Dareus (if available), but I can’t see Green getting by Cleveland.

7. San Francisco is on the clock...

Yeah, this is probably worst case scenario for 49ers. There's still plenty of talent on the board, but I think it comes down to Prince Amukamara vs. Robert Quinn. While Quinn might have more upside, CB presents a more pressing need, so I'll say:

SF 49ers - Prince Amukamara

San Francisco 49ers: OLB/DE Robert Quinn, North Carolina-

With Gabbert & Peterson gone, Harbaugh gets his rush defensive end.

#7 SF - I'm sticking with defensive line, but going with Da'Quan Bowers here

Yeah, tough spot for the 49ers with this board. I'm sure they'd like to trade down here but I'll go with...

Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson

Current consensus for S.F...

Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina - 1

Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska - 1

Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson - 2

#2 for Amukamara going to the Niners. I think Bowers is sliding because of injury concerns, and while Robert Quinn would be a great pick I don't think he adresses a glaring need. This is definitely a bad spot for San Fran to be in though.

Niners take Quinn

#8 Tennessee Titans on the clock:

Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson. this may not be the consensis pick here but I belive the injury hype is a little overblown by teams hoping he will fall. he fits well on the titans line and could make a impact right away!

You could make a case for SF going several different ways after Peterson and Gabbert failed to make it to them, IMO.

I think Nick Fairley is the pick for Tennessee. After taking Morgan last year, I don't see them taking Bowers. I think interior line is an issue, and Fairley could be a perennial pro bowler if he shows a greater work ethic.
