The accepted statistic is that 5% of people that try to become professional poker players, succeed. I dunno where that comes from, if it's realistic ... I'd say less. Anyone that ever tries to play poker on a serious level is going to at least think they could go pro. Kinda try. I've been at the casino twice ... played like 4 hours and won $700. There's your problem. 4 hours over 2 days is WAY too small of a sample size. You mighta just been lucky. A pro plays the same way ... through the good swings and bad. Hopefull ... that the right thing will be done ... at some point. But the change mostly .... from my point of view ... is a smoke screen. Not enough has changed. I agree with you there. I'm just gonna do a rough estimate, but my salary ... because I was good at computers ... went from 20k a year to 60k in 4 years ... in my twenties. The Clinton era. Then the "internet bubble" burst in 2000 .... after that some friggin clown cowboy had 8 years to fock up what Clinton and Gore had worked so hard for. I have an intense revenge gene wired in my brain. I'm real easy to get along with, willing to go along with the program kinda guy .... but once you start focking with me ... I become unhinged and I will go for the jugular. This is prolly why I am a better tournament poker player than I am a cash poker player. I react with a faster synapse under pressure. In any game though .... you don't wanna be the guy at the table I don't like. You can't win. I've flat out told people at my table, "You wont win at this table. I might not win either ... but I wont let you win." I'll focking get you at all costs. Perhaps you should find a way to channel this gene into riches? On a serious note, I don't know the details of the program, but it sounds like SM would be signing up for some percentage of your income over 25 years, and you've spent this entire thread talking about playing poker and making money under the table. I've got this neighbor who's on disability and gets a pension from his job (retired early) for the city gas works. He was bellyaching to me the other day about how hard it is to meet his bills. Then he mentioned that he was going down to Atlantic City and when I told him I've never spent a dollar in a casino that wasn't for a drink (truth), he said he spends $200 to $300 gambling every week. joeshushu 51 Posted June 6, 2011 I was watching Suzie Orman on PBS the other day (Oh by the way happy 60th Suzie, just in case she is a member here) and she said student loans can't be excused through banruptcy anymore and that they can even garnish social security if it takes that long for repayment. She was yelling at some white dued that had 25,000 in student loans, had trouble in finding a decent job, and decided to go back and get his masters adding an additional 75,000 to his student loan debt. He now makes 20,000/year and is having issues paying off his loans. Suzie pointed out he should have just worked and paid his original debt before going back to school and accumulating more student loan debt. I guess he was trying to get rid of all his student loan debt through bankruptcy which he can't do. Suzie brought him on stage and gave him a hug which brought a tear to me eye.
