Asante Samuel, Rodgers-Cromartie, and now Awesome-Wha? Hmmmm... Is there an Asante trade in the works?

That would be interesting, but their CBs other than Samuel were so weak last year it might be worth keeping DRC as a 2-year rental.

I'm wondering if the Eagles bring in a wideout to put some pressure on Desean. He's an electric playmaker but also one-dimensional, and the Eagles have too many needs to pay him elite WR money.

We still need a linebacker, safety, and possibly a lineman. Team looks a hell of a lot better now than when free agency started though.

The deal is 5 years for a total of $60,000,000 with $25,000,000 guaranted (source - NFL Network). Look at all those zeros! Wow, Eagles really improved their team.

I was thinking moving one of the CB's to safety, Samuel perhaps?

Asomugha left side, DRC right side, Nate Allen strong, Samuel free

He returns punts, runs end arounds, catches passes....one dimensional?! You mean he's really, really fast....yes. One dimensional....no.

He's due to make 455 this year. it's about 4-8 mill less than what he'll get if he signs a new contract. If he gets hurt...he gets nothing more. The way the NFL is you have to holdout if you're DeSean.

Seems like overkill in the secondary unless they spin DRC off in a trade. They still have some work to do on that defense, and Desean needs to get paid too!

Haha, Samuel at Safety. Here's a TERRIBLE tackler!

The NFL has become a major passing league. Having three high level CB's is hardly overkill. All 3 of them will be on the field at the same time quite a bit. Many NFL teams use a lot of 3 and 4 WR sets on offense. If anyone gets traded though, it would be Asante. But I doubt at $9 million there would be many takers.

Everyone including the Eagles agrees that Desean is underpaid and I don't blame him for holding out. And you're right, he's a terrific punt returner, but as a receiver he's mostly a deep threat. He's probably the best deep threat in the league no doubt, but he's too small to consistently go over the middle and make the tough grabs without getting concussed.

Jackson missed time but he also had 23 fewer catches than Maclin and fewer TDs - 6 to 10. In his 3-year career he's had 62, 62 and 47 receptions. His YPC is ridiculous, but he's never going to be a guy like White, Calvin, AJ, Fitzgerald, etc. Which is fine, not many receivers ever reach that level. Desean may be maxed out at 60-65 catches, 1,000-1,000 yards and 7-8 TDs.

Most of those TDs will be from 40-plus yards or on special teams and that's exciting. My point is that right now, he's mostly the NFC version of Mike Wallace. :dunno:

what the hell was the Iggles cap # before all this? How the hell can they afford to have 3 high priced corners? I think they deal either DRC or Samuel pretty quickly, or maybe cut Samuel, which would create another big bidding war. Still many dominoes yet to fall.

I agree here that every teams target is 3 good corners in the passing nfl. I hope they keep all of these guys.

The Eagles had a ton of cap space entering free agency, something like $24-25 million by most estimates. Remember, some of their "stars" like Desean Jackson and LeSean McCoy are still playing on their 2nd round contracts. Trading Asante would save them about $6.335 million in cap space. But they'd have to find a team willing to pay him over $9 million a year. I don't think they would get much back for him so I'd rather see them keep all 3. Rodgers-Cromartie is scheduled to make around $1 million next season.

Seems to me that Asante might get shown the door. I understand the argument for having three starting caliber cornerbacks in the NFL these days, but that is a LOT of money to tie up in one position. Especially if they have any intention of given Desean Jackson a new deal.

I see where you're coming from, but he's bigger than Steve Smith and he was elite. He just needs to learn the entire game. He's great at deep routes and the quick outs, but he needs to learn over the middle and the sideline routes better to be considered in the same class as Fitz/Andre/Calvin and comp.

WOW! Suck it Rexy and Jerrah....bwahahahahahaha. The Eagles front office flat-out duped the rest of the league and landed the #1 free agent available. I'm still somewhat in shock.

E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!!!

This is going to mess up Vick. Nnamdi was his favorite target.

Lucky for Vick, Nnamdi has stone hands.
