Didn't actually get to see much of the tournament this week, but one thing is for sure. TW seems to do just fine dink'n and dunk'n 3 woods and 2 irons off of tees, least he does at Firestone. That track is 7400 yards long, near 300 yards longer than what he will see this week at Oak Hill. I think he can steer his tee ball around well enough to win this week, I just don't have any faith he can contnue to putt and chip well for 2 weeks in a row........ Speaking of Oak Hill - what a treasure she is. The famed venues the PGA chooses for its championship are about the only thing remotely exotic about this major. Dufner had a great week last week - I'd sure like to see him get his first major Sunday.

Pretty solid weekend - with the help of a swing tweak and going back to xross handed putting, managed to go 75, 74 over the weekend. Saturday was particulary solid considering the 75 included a triple and a double.......... Scary story - and lesson to be learned. A buddy of ours was playing Thursday, mid-round said he wasn't feeling great and was having trouble seeing out of his right eye. One of the guys said, "hey, I think you are having a stroke." They all kind of thought it was silly, but after about 15 minutes they decided to head in. They took him to the hospital - indeed he was having a stroke. Luckily they caught it early - but he is still in Icu under watch and care.

Never get angry enough to throw or break a club.

I save that for the retardos of the world, you know the type. They have no right to care or get angry because they suck so bad as it is and should be prohibited from playing anything other than par 3 courses until they can grow up.

my best club is my driver, par 3 does me little good. I don't recall ever breaking a driver out of anger

When I'm hooking it, it's because my arms and hands are faster than my body. So I emphasize starting the downswing with the lower body and letting the upper body lag behind a hair.

Oh man, damn near impossible to fix a hook w/out seeing it - could be all kinds of things. But the usual culprit and place I'd look first is your grip and stance. A weaker grip will definitely help straigten up a hook, maybe open up a bit. I'd also look at your equipment. If your shafts are too whippy - hooks will follow. Then again if you weren't hooking before - prolly not that. Also try and get on top, or ahead of the bal at impact. Almost impossible to hook a ball with your body ahead of the club at impact.

SHANK!

Yep the deaded word of golfers all over - and I had an extreme case of them y-day. I had no idea wtf was going on - maybe getting only 8 hours combined sleep Fri & Sat nights had something to do with it, whatever the reason it was bad. Shanked balls on #4, 5, 7, 8, and 10 - it was like a horror movie. After drowning myself in emergency beer I was able to scrap a few pars and a birdie together, still ended up as an ugly ass 82... Got it fixed before we headed back out for the Emergency Nine, managed to shoot 1 over on it.... The S's are a nightmare - gawd I hope that never happens again.

Yeah. I tend to have a day like that once every 15 rounds or so. There is no warning coming in, and there is no evidence of it lingering next time out. It's just a one off isolated random occurrence. Unfortunately, I've now had two 9 holes stretches of this in the last 5 rounds or so. But I'll just say that adds up to 1 round and forget about it.

Cross Timbers on Saturday. I had a big margarita night on Friday that ended with me sleeping in Dallas for 4 hours, then meeting my dad in Saginaw at 620am. So there is my built in excuse. Front side, I topped 2 shots that went 20 feet total, shanked 2 more shots, and took 4 drops. I also managed 20 putts on the front. That would add up to a 50. I don't know the last time I did that. And that was with a par, bog start, and a bog, par closeout to the 9. So that middle 5 holes were played at 12 over.

On number 8, I decided I was just going to free flow it the rest of the day. Had birdie putts of less than 10 feet on 8,9, and 10. Three putted 8 and missed the other 2. But I got 2 birdies later on.....38 on the back.

How does that happen? 50-38? :dunno:

I'm playing The Resort this coming weekend for the first time ever. I've heard its a very tough track. Most of the courses I've been playing have a slope of 122-125. The Resort appears to have a slope of either 136 or 142 depending on which tees we play. So I sure as hell hope my back 9 play carries over.

Meh, I'm not a big fan of the Resort. It has a few pretty holes I guess, #'s 9, 11, 16 come to mind - just overall nothing to write home about. Most of the times I've played it the course has been dry with rock hard greens - maybe that has something to do with my lack of enthusiasm for it. I do have one of my hole-in-one's there, so that was nice. Won't look like it at first, but it is a place you can loose balls on if you aren't hitting it well.

Anyone catch any of Rory yesterday? 514 yard Par 4: he goes driver / gap wedge. ..... I seriously enjoy watching the Champions tour or LPGA bcoz the game has just gotten so ridiculous on the men's side... We have a tent out at the Colonial this week - so I will be out and part of the J. Spieth swarm.

It's incredible how far the dude hits the ball. I've seen him in person twice. There's nothing to him, he's like 5'8" but the power he generates is bizarre. What could they possibly do, make the courses 8,000 yards? That would just give him more of an advantage over the field. He's starting to get on a Tiger-like run. If he's hitting fairways, no one can touch him.

Yea he's 5'10" - 165 lbs... Fun to watch, but damn.... The only thing you can actually do is to bring the golf ball back. J. Nicklaus has been saying this for years. Ha, of course when he was the longest kid on the block, he didn't mind then. :)

You still think Spieth is the guy to win more majors? I Think you are nuts. The gap in talent is too vast. It's rory and everyone else. Plus Rory had just as solid a head on his shoulders.

I do agree on bringing the ball back. It would be good for the courses, no doubt.

I've been playing around with my new driver at the range this past week. hit balls after putting the kid to bed 4 times. ping g30 and an oban kiyoshi purple shaft. Can't wait to get it on the course. Its amazing how forgiving it is. I went from an old Bertha diablo stock driver and its like night and day. New club has nice flight and its just a heavy ball as i can tell the spin rate is way way down. I've only played one round so far and shot an 87 while not using a driver (didn't want to use old driver and get any bad swing habits when i was days away from the new one). 87 was a great score considering i hadn't picked up a club since my fitting session in january and my short game lacked touch and confidence.

Played in my league last night and the 1st hole is about 325 from the whites.

After watching this weekend.

It makes me sad I person that weighs 25 pounds less than I, can drive a green I am usually hitting a gap wedge into for a 2nd.

Shorten courses, narrow fairways, high rough. And watch every pro whine a little girl if the winner isn't -20. Thank goodness for the US Open.

My game is rounding into form.

Played Cross Timbers last week. After making birdie on the 16th (180 yard par 3), I needed to play the last two holes at 1 under for a 79. The 17th is a gettable really short dogleg left that only requires hybrid off the tee. I've made many a birdie here. I had about 130 in. It should be so easy, but the second shot plays with my mind. There is a bunker right, and a dropoff that shortsides you left. But the terrain is much higher on the right, sloping left. So my mind always thinks I need to aim at the right side of the green and feed it down. I tried to ignore that and take dead aim, but my body didn't listen. Left it right and in the bunker. Made bogey.......18 is a tough par 5 that I can't reach in 2. Made par and shot an 81 on a sloppy muddy day.

Tierra Verde yesterday.....I shot a 42 on the front, which included a double bogey on a 180 yard par 3 in which I put it pin high, but maybe 15 feet right of the flag in the rough. Shortsided with the green running away from me, I opened up a 56°, but slid under it and left it short. Then of course I just chipped it on and let it go 15 feet past the hole........Shot 42 on the back as well. I had a 3 hole stretch in which I was hitting big top hooks with the driver, which lead to a triple bogey on 12 when I couldn't carry the 100 yards or so required off the tee. But I am not good enough, nor am I deep enough into the golf season to get too upset about shooting an 84 at Tierra Verde, as it's a reasonably difficult course.

When I was shooting in the 70's reasonably often (I did it 5-10 times total in 2012-2013, and it was always in play when I teed it up) a couple years back, I was playing a lot of muni courses. The last 2 years, thanks to golfnow and whatnot, we've been playing much much tougher courses. I've shot 10-20 rounds on that 80-83 range, but haven't seen the 70's in at least 18 months. I think I'm a much much much better player now than I was 2-3 years ago, so I'm expecting a few rounds in the upper 70's this summer on the tougher courses. And I may play some of those muni courses this summer with buddies, at which point I'd like to think I can hit the 75 number on a good day.

For the most part, I've taken the last two years off from playing. I usually play 75-100 rounds a year. My golfing buddies have either given the game up or are injured, I've played two so far this year. I can't imagine what my game is going to look like when i start back up. I'm hoping the time off helps.

changed my driver swing path closer to my iron swing and was fighting off a fade/slice off the tee which was annoying... Thinking about going to a stronger grip, but i have tried to avoid any major swing changes for about 10 years as i like the fact my golf game can be put down for a while and i can pick it back up when i have more time for golf... Don't want to open pandoras box but thinking about it
