Yeah I know I was being a little too optimistic there -- I feel a definite sub .500 season in Seattle AKA - the next Detroit.

As a SF 49er fan who sees a fair amount of rival games I think they will be more competitive than that but don't mind that projection

The Detroit comparisons are the best. Yep, Seattle is totally like the most one dimensional team in the league that cannot run the ball or play defense. Never mind their self-entitled, poorly coached quarterback.

I must have been living under a rock or something to not have seen this one.

A few days back, Kaepernick was walking around on a beach wearing a Miami Dolphins hat.

Which incumbents currently on the 90-man roster will not be back this year?

I'm guessing that something happens with the O-Line. McQuistan and Giacomini are both making big $$ this season and one of them might get pushed out if Carpenter comes back strong. Moffitt can play at 3 different positions, but if others are healthy, is he worth keeping around, especially if he's just mediocre at 3 positions?

I think they are both back for the reasons you state: versatility. Moffitt can play three positions and McQuistan can play LT. Next year is a different story but I think both are safe in 2013.

There may actually be some depth due to the possibility of the late draft picks at OL, as they may be able to play a bit. The one guy was coming off an injury and the other guy has great versatility. I can't recall their names off the top of my head.I hope to see a competitive camp at all the OL positions, with Okung and Unger the only guys that have starting spots nailed down. I also hope they keep the best players and not necessarily save roster spots for guys only due to draft capital spent. But I don't get that impression from this front office, as they churn the roster with gusto. I suppose they may want to get another look at Carpenter if he ever gets healthy again because the guy has size and would be protected by playing in between Okung and Unger, who could mask his mistakes. But wouldn't it be better to play someone else who you wouldn't have to worry about, as that would weaken the individual play of Okung and Unger. However, if his legs don't allow him to move, Carpenter simply will never be able to play. Moffitt is a concern because he gives the impression of not working hard, and then he lost his starting gig to a 7th round pick who was playing offensive line for the first time in his life. What's up with that? Not that Sweezey sucked, but he wasn't all that great either.

Offensive line is an area I thought needed an upgrade, and was the only area of need that was not addressed this offseason. If either Okung or Unger get hurt....uh oh.

Initially, I didn't think much of the 7th round picks. They are drafted that low for a reason. Ryan Seymour is the versatile guy that could have a decent shot to stick. Michael Bowie is intriguing in that he was starting at Oklahoma St in a dominant offense. Off field issues made him leave the team for his senior year and he transferred out. He has really good size and quickness, but he is very raw. He would be a great guy to stash away for a year or two. Plus, he is from Oklahoma St, the same school as Okung, which bodes well. Mike Gundy has produced some talented players from that offense. I also like Rishaw Johnson a bit, as I liked picking him up as an undrafted free agent last year, and would like to see how he progresses.

If you remember, Pete Carroll really talked up Rishaw Johnson last year. Bowie is intriguing; I have read some interesting reports on Alvin Bailey. Getting back to Groundhog's question, I think that by looking at this group there is no real legitimate back up to Okung should he get injured except McQuistan which means I think he sticks this year for sure.
