BudBro 118 Posted January 28, 2013 Michel Sapin made the gaffe in a radio interview, which left French President Francois Hollande battling to undo the potential reputational damage. “There is a state but it is a totally bankrupt state,” Mr Sapin said. “That is why we had to put a deficit reduction plan in place, and nothing should make us turn away from that objective.” The comments came as President Hollande attempts to improve the image of the French economy after pledging to reduce the country’s deficit by cutting spending by €60bn (£51.5bn) over the next five years and increasing taxes by €20bn. Data from Banque de France showed earlier this month that a flight of capital has already left the country amid concerns that France’s Socialist leader intends to soak the rich and businesses. The actor Gérard Depardieu has renounced his French citizenship and decamped to Russia in protest, while David Cameron said Britain will “roll out the red carpet” to attract wealthy individuals. Pierre Moscovici, the finance minister, said the comments by Mr Sapin were “inappropriate”. the truth will set you free....and also make it where you're asked to leave the country. No, I'm pointing out that a big part of France's economic problems, and the problems of European countries in general, is the European Union. So even if the U.S. adopted the European system, which it should not and will not, it wouldn't necessarily result in France's economic situation.
IGotWorms 3,354 Posted January 29, 2013 He absolutely wants to shape social policy to align with the euro model. The HC debate was one of myriad examples Obamacare really is not an example of a European model. It's a market-driven solution as opposed to, say, the national healthcare systems favored by European countries. The only real similarity is that the goal is universal or near-universal healthcare, but the means employed are very different. Can you provide any other examples? I really don't think that Obama wants to make us like Europe. I am sure there are some points of the European system that he admires, but I'm also sure that he is quite cognizant of the drawbacks as well. His vision is of American liberalism, imo. So even if the U.S. adopted the European system, which it should not and will not, it wouldn't necessarily result in France's economic situation. France's major issues include the massive, crushing flood of immigrants, riots which nearly destroyed their entire country, the internal war against Muslim takeover, socialistic policies of government, and now the rich with all their money are fleeing the country due to oppressive taxes. France is focked. But, hey, France again voted in a socialist to run the joint, much like the U.S. So fock them, and soon it will be fock us. A relative lived in France for 20 years. They wouldn't want to fly over the country just to spit on it because it would be a waste of saliva.

I think you can look at entitlement structures in france, italy and elsewhere in europe and see the similaries as we 'progress' towards them... Obama certainly didn't favor a market driven approach to HC, he wanted single payer as in europe, but couldn't politically pull it off...

This way Obama doesn't have to propose anything, fight for anything, or stand for anything. And he can blame someone else when it all goes to sh!t. Obama has mastered it. gocolts 300 Posted January 30, 2013 Isn't the US totally bankrupt too. Yep, and it just became worse, although I wasn't sure that was possible. My link Russia Issues “Critical Alert” For US As Billions Flee American Banks The MFA in issuing this extraordinary warning cites as one of its “sufficiently critical criteria” the mass withdrawal from the largest US banks this past week of $114.1 billion, the largest amount taken from these banks since the 11 September 2001 terror attacks, and which American financial experts have yet to explain because, in their words, they don’t why. Equally concerning the MFA, this report says, was Switzerland joining Germany, the Netherlands and Venezuela in demanding that their gold held in the vaults of the US Federal Reserve Bank in New York be repatriated, a move that has brought fear among many American financial experts as to its full implications.
