Boston Bruins trade Tyler Seguin; lose Horton and Ference in free agency

Recommended Posts

I think there may be a concern with his (seguin's) off ice behavior. He's only 21 so he still has time to get his act together.

As a Stars fan, I liked Erickson a lot. But we are deep at wing needed center help bad. It's been said often that we are very deep in "good" players, but it takes "elite" to win. Seguin sounds like he is an elite talent if he gets his head right.

Well worth the risk for a 21 year old elite talent.

After the Aaron Hernandez debacle in New England, I don't think any Boston teams want to deal with players that carry character issues. I think medstudent hit it on the head, Seguin has some issues off the ice and Chirelli wanted to dump him while there was still some value.

Good move by Boston.

I think that the Bruins were looking to unload a couple of unfriendly contracts at a time that they were against the cap. They had no patience to see if Seguin would mature enough to be the player that they hoped when they drafted him.

I like the trade. I don't know much about the minor players involved in the deal, I've grown to dislike Seguin, as many fans around here have. A lot of talent, but mainly a one way player. He's shown some flashes of defensive mindedness at times, but basically comes across as a guy that just wants to score goals. Good shoot-out guy, that's about all you can rely on him for. Dare I say, he was starting to remind me of Phil Kessel. As for character issues, I'm sure he's not going to go out and shoot anyone, but I've heard a couple of first hand accounts of interactions with him off the ice, and he sounds like a world class a-hole. He's certainly not a Bruin.

which is OK if you score goals - and Seguin didn't.

I wanted to like this guy - I wanted him to become the franchise - but it just wasn't there. Maybe this move is good for everyone, Bs fans won't miss Seguin, maybe Boston just isn't the organization for him - or maybe he's simply a bust - we will find out.

... and extend Bergeron, get out of some bad contracts and let some of their young talent play.

Bad contracts? The only reason they traded Seguin was his behavior off the ice. Did you see the story in the Herald about how they had a guard outside of his hotel room during the playoffs?

They better hope that Rask works out for them.

Seguin's deal was not a good one given his output. Peverley's was a bad deal.

I can't wait to hear what they're going to pay Rask.

... lose out on Alfredson, but sign Iginla

Good to see the Bruins signing guys in their 40s.

Looks like Seguin is already making friends in Texas tweeting: "Only steers and queers in Texas, and I'm not a cow."

Oh yeah, he claims it was hackers.

Apparently. The story I just heard was one of his friends picked up his phone and "accidentally" posted it.

Right.

Maybe the Habs can get him for a 7th rounder now.

Lucic Krecji Iginla

Marshmont Bergy Eriksson

Paille Kelly Soderberg

Daugavins Campbell Thornton

Chara Seidenberg

Boychuk Hamilton

McQuaid Krug

Love this team... Great work getting rid of Horton and Peverly... Ference became a necessary loss after the development of the youngsters. Reload and back to the Stanley Cup....

What does he do off the ice that is so bad ?

He showed up so hungover he couldn't practice during the playoffs... Needed a guard outside his hotel room to control him... Ridiculous stuff... Let him Xavier Laflamme himself elsewhere.

the hangover guard sounds more like something Derek Sanderson would have done.

Seguin was a youngster enjoying a lot of money and fun out on the town. He was often seen with a drink in hand even though he was not 21 for a good portion of his time here.

Sanderson was notorious for ending up in the gutter. Literally.

7 per year... Done deal, 7 or 8 years...

Only other bad contract they have is Chris Kelly... Seguin was getting 6+ per year... overpaid for a 2nd line winger...

Make me a millionaire at age 21 and I'll screw up plenty in regards to drinking too much. And I'll have a bit of an attitude and be a jackass about it also.

Seguin will figure it out. Good trade for both teams. Boston gets a better "win now" guy. Dallas gets a better long term talent for a team that's building.

Rask deal

I heard he was changing his name to DiPietro :music_guitarred:

DiPietro peaked in college and got a deal before ever playing a game... Rask is a top 5 NHL goalie in his prime. This isn't a Flacco deal.
